The gold on the eye makes the needle easier to see to pick it up and to thread it.
The shape and size of the eye also enhances the threading. It is perfect for the often larger threads used in Big Stitch quilting. I have used size 8 perle cotton threads, 10wt. crochet threads, 12 wt. Sulky threads, 30wt. cotton threads, all with relative ease in these needles. The package comes with multiple sizes so you can choose which one your thread requires.
The interior of the eye is well polished so that the thread does not shred while using the needle.
And I can't remember ever bending a Clover embroidery needle as I worked.
As a quilting teacher, I recommend these Clover Embroidery needles to all my embroidery/Big Stitch hand quilting students.
