Product Description

A lightweight, versatile personal filtration system, the second-generation Sawyer MINI Water Filter fits in the palm of your hand and has a total field weight of just 2 ounces. Perfect for everything from camping with the kids to traveling abroad where tap and bottle water can't be trusted, the tiny MINI provides 0.1 micron absolute filtration for clean drinking water on the go — filtering out bacteria, protozoa, and microplastics. The MINI filter removes 7 log (99.99999%) of all bacteria (like salmonella) as well as other harmful bacteria which causes cholera and E. coli and 6 log (99.9999%) of all protozoa such as giardia and cryptosporidium. These removal rates equal or exceed other filter options. EPA guidelines allow ten times more protozoa left in the water than Sawyer MINI filters allow. The MINI also filters out 100% of microplastics. The MINI 0.1 micron absolute filter houses a cluster of micro-fibrous tubes which use similar technology found in medical dialysis. As water passes through the side walls of the tubes, harmful bacteria and protozoa are trapped on the outer walls so you can be confident your water is safe to drink. Great for outdoor recreation, hiking, camping, scouting, domestic and international travel, and emergency prepping, the Sawyer MINI gives you a number of ways to access clean water. Attach it to the included drinking pouch, use the included straw to drink directly from your water source, connect it to hydration pack tubing (sold separately), or screw it onto standard disposable bottles (28mm thread). Since 1984, Sawyer has used technological advancements to create products that keep you outdoors — from the backcountry to the backyard — including insect repellents for both skin and clothing, water filters for camping and emergencies, and sun protection.

Easy Drinking

Sawyer International

Ready for the Backcountry

The ultra-light, easily packable Sawyer MINI water filter fits in the palm of your hand and weighs just 2 ounces — making it ideal for ultralight backpacking and camping, as well as emergency preparedness.

Each MINI comes with a durable, collapsible 16-ounce reusable squeeze pouch that rolls up when empty, so it won't take up space in your pack.

Filtered Water Anywhere

The reusable 0.1 absolute micron MINI water filter produces clean water from freshwater lakes, rivers, and streams, as well as faucets in your home or hotel room while traveling (domestic and international).

The MINI also comes with a straw that enables you to drink filtered water directly from a water source.

Easy Drinking

To start filtering water, simply fill the squeeze pouch with water from your water source, then attach the MINI filter onto the pouch and start drinking right from the MINI or squeeze into a water bottle to share with others.

The MINI also attaches onto water or soda bottles with a standard threaded top, and you can attach inline on a hydration pack to filter water from a bladder (sold separately).

Sawyer's International Mission

Sawyer believes everyone deserves access to clean water — from hikers in the backcountry to indigenous people groups in the remotest corners of the world.

For over 10 years, Sawyer has been working with a variety of charities and churches who are on a mission to make a long-lasting impact in the lives of those around the world without access to clean drinking water.

Hollow Fiber Membrane

Sawyer’s water filters are comprised of tiny hollow fiber membranes that allow water to enter into their core through tiny micro-pores.

Thicker fiber walls combined with a smaller inner diameter make Sawyer fibers 75% stronger* than typical hollow fiber membranes, giving you a fast flow and enabling the filter to be continually backwashed forcefully to restore up to 98% of the original flow rate.

* Clean Water Institute of Calvin University; July, 2018

0.1 Absolute Micron Filtering

Each Sawyer water filter features 0.1 micron absolute filtration, meaning there is no pore size larger than 0.1 micron in size.

This makes it nearly impossible for microplastics, harmful bacteria, protozoa, or cysts like E. coli, Giardia, Vibrio cholerae, and Salmonella typhi (which cause Cholera and Typhoid) to pass through.

Fiber Protection

Sawyer's hollow fiber membranes are fully encased and sealed to keep them protected. When fibers are not enclosed, physical damage of exposed fibers could allow harmful pathogens to pass through.

Tested 3 Times

Every Sawyer filter is performance tested three separate times during the manufacturing process for your protection.

Testing occurs after the fiber element construction and twice after casing assembly to ensure no harmful pathogens leak through the sealed case or internal O-rings.

    4 Stars
Filter works great, but the squeeze system is for the birds. I built a lightweight DIY pump.
I got the Sawyer Mini and a set of 32-ounce squeeze bags for the trusted brand, light weight, and excellent performance. It's a popular filter for good reason. However, I found using the squeeze bags a major pain in the hands. I'm a climber and have plenty of grip strength, but the rolling method to prolong the life of the bags is still quite a workout. I also found that filling the bags in slow moving and medium-speed creeks to be kind of tricky. With some common materials, I was able to build a lightweight pump (116g) to make using the the Mini WAY easier.Supplies:* Sawyer Mini water filter* Heinz Easy Pump* 6 feet of silicone tubing. Specifically 5/16" inner diameter, 7/16" outer diameter. This size creates a watertight seal between the pump and the filter. The larger inner diameter has better flow than 1/4" tubing.* Sealant. I used some leftover liquid silicone sealant from another home project. Two part epoxy would work and so would a waterproof tape.* Optional prefilter. A prefilter prolongs the life of your Sawyer Mini by keeping out larger particulate. Mine is a stainless steel inline fuel filter for small engines. Look for a 5/16" outlet to match the tubing.Build instructions:1. Disassemble the pump and recycle/discard the spring. Near the top on the outer tube, there are two small openings to let in air. Seal these up with the sealant of your choice and ensure there's no seep-out on the inside of the pump. Allow the sealant to cure.2. Remove the angled tip to the pump handle using a sharp knife or ratcheting PVC pipe cutter.3. Cut the silicone tubing to size. I eyeballed when I cut mine, but the pieces measure 46 inches on the inlet, 2.25 inches on the coupler, and 16.5 inches on the outlet. I marked my inlet hose on each end, just as a visual reminder that it's the dirty water hose so I don't mix the clean and dirty sides up.4. Assemble as pictured. Everything press-fits together and should be easy to take apart by hand. You have to pump it pretty slowly at first to get the pump primed with clean water, but once the system is full of water, it runs like a champ. This is because air is compressible and water isn't. This setup can filter a liter of water in about 30 pumps. The pump can also be used to backflush the filter. Just connect the Sawyer mini output to the output of the pump and use the shorter clean water hose on the pump inlet.

I bought this for my family and I to use while our on long hikes when our water could run out, for road trips through the mountains when there's no where for a long time to stop for water, for emergency preparedness and for fun to try water from different rivers, lakes and streams.

So far we've got a good bit of use out of it and have used a few times in on about 4 different water sources.

Before using it outside I tried it out using some very dirty dish water. The water that came out of the filter was completely clear despite being brown going in. And there was only a slight taste to it. The water we've used the filter with in the mountains and streams tasted amazing and clean.

It's very easy to use and even our 2 and 4 year olds are able to use it with no issues. The flow is a little slow but faster than I thought based on other reviews. I don't feel like it takes a long time to get a good drink. However we've only used it while still at the water source and have not needed to pour it into a bottle for use later when away from a water source. I could see how waiting for it to fill up a whole water bottle could seem slow.

After each trip I flush it out at home with clean water and let it air dry for a couple days before packing it away in a breathable bag and there's been no mold or bad smells or anything else wrong.

My only complaint is that the bag is stiff and hard to fill up fully even with moving water. So for future trips I plan on bringing something to pour the water into the bag.

I think this little filter is great. It's super light, easy to use, easy to clean and from what I've read it filters out more and lasts longer than a standard competions straw filter. It also has lots of attachments and options for using it which makes it a very diverse tool. Overall I'm please with my purchase and recommend it.
