I had been looking forward to the release, expecting a much faster, higher resolution and typically linear “new console” experience.

Well I did get all that from the console, BUT and this is a HUGE but, the new Duel Sense controller is what I feel really makes this far, far above the incremental new console release I had expected. Now I could say in a almost Tolkien like novel just what the “feel” of the new controller is like but there is no way for me to convey the subtle and unique way this controller conveys feeling form what you see on screen to tangible, tactile response in hand. The included title of Astros playroom makes getting to experience this into a joy that made 3 hours just fly past with me wanting to keep going (but the real world need some of my time as well) when walking around in game you can tell what the floor is supposed to be made of the kind of difference between walking on timber or concrete floors, brushing into plants, getting hit or even landing after jumping all have a tangible result or feedback. I can’t wait to experience more and see/feel what this does for other games.

As for the general all over bits like build quality everything appears to be done very well, good feeling/quality plastics, set up was simple.

The only real bad is the small on console storage, older ps4 titles can be stored on a external drive (not included but not overly costly to add or 100% needed) Sony has stated user expansion of the memory will be available soon via a had slot in the console but this will of cause add to the price once they release a list of what drives will work for this, until then a little manual house keeping will keep space for the games I will actively play.

This is a great console, incredibly fast, not noisy at all.
It does gets a little warm though, so make sure you have it in a well ventilated area, and not in a confined space.

Loading times are pretty nice on PS5 games, PS4 games are a bit slower to load, probably because they weren't actually designed for PS5. Call of duty takes about 7 seconds to open the game, and about 5 seconds to join a game, then you're left waiting for everyone else. Games like Battlefield 5 and StarWars battlefront 2 takes like 20-30 seconds to load up and get moving. So it does look like PS5 games Load significantly faster than PS4 games.

Normally I'm the first in the game waiting for everyone else to finish loading which is a nice change from being the last to load.

Haptic feedback is nice and different surfaces offer different vibrations I don't really notice it that much when I'm playing games like Call of duty, but that's probably because I'm focused on winning the gun fight and not actually paying attention to what I'm "feeling". It's still pretty cool though, Astro's playroom shows off the new features nicely.

Adaptive triggers are a cool feature, it actually gets harder to press down, it's different and will take some getting use to, it did strain my fingers a little but not as much now, you can adjust all these settings in the settings menu if you want to.

I've had 2 crashes so far while Playing Call of Duty Cold War, I'm not sure why but sending a report to Sony easy.

Overall I'm really happy with it.

Fast, quiet and amazing

So far loving the PS5. Demon's Souls is insanely hard, but an incredible view into what we can expect from games going forward. The geometric detail in the game is extremely impressive, there's no way you'd see a game look this good on a previous-gen console. It's an easy recommendation to go with your new console. Having said that, don't throw away Astro's Playroom, it might be a free pack-in title that's mostly meant to demonstrate the features of the new controller, but it's not just a tutorial. It's actually a complete, but short (~5 hour) game which is worth playing.

The console is extremely quiet, by the time you're a meter away from it, it is completely silent. Even on mute, you basically have to go right up to the air intake to hear the console operate. From my chair I basically need to look at the indicator light to see if it's on or not.

It also has really solid backwards compatibility with PS4 games. I ran into some issues with Shadow of the Tomb Raider on earlier firmwares, but it's since been fixed and everything else has worked flawlessly, at least as good, if not better on the PS5.

The only down-side of the system is the controller's battery life which rarely seems to survive a full day of gaming in my experience, but this is easily mitigated with a 2A USB power bank.

Overall, the PS5 is an easy recommendation.

I’m a long time Series x user and purchased the PS5 during the pre slim release clearance sales. Now having spent time with the console it is clear, the PS5 is in a league of its own.

Incredible controller technology, incredible audio tech in the 3D pulse headset and outstanding exclusive games like Horizon and Spiderman waiting to be enjoyed.

My goodness the console is big though
