These earbuds are fantastic for the price, bested in SQ only by my BA-200s in the IEM/earbud formfactor. They do however require a break-in. When I first got them I was a little disappointed due to significant sibilance and slightly muted bass. After listening for a while, I set them to play my library at a slightly above normal listening volume and left them for 48hrs.
When I gave them another listen, they had changed significantly. The sibilance died down significantly, though there is still a tiny bit there. The bass livened up and smoothed out. They just plain sounded better. This wasn't just me getting used to them either, as I hadn't listened to them more than 10 minutes, two days ago.
Bass - These aren't going to blow you away with quantity, but they do deliver plenty of smooth, fast, quality bass. The bass range seems nicely balanced, not peaky, and goes pretty low. On a few songs it does begin to break up in the bottom octaves, but this is pretty much isolated to high-volume hip-hop/rap. I.e. on Plies F@#$in or What the sweeping bass drop distorts and the vocals start to break up as well. This is mostly an isolated problem however, not one to be too worried about.
Mids - Vocals, guitars etc sound great on these. Very smooth and present. Separation is quite good as well. Soundstage is decent. Not mind-blowing, but pretty good for 'buds.
Highs - Highs are quite good, with good extension and balance. These sound lively without being harsh or overly bright. There is some occasional sibilance though. I'm very sensitive to this so it might not be that bad, it's just one of those things that I always look closely at with audio because I find it so irritating. The level of sibilance on these is totally fine for me though.
Construction seems very good. The metal housings are well put together and look high quality. The flanges that come with these are the usual fare. Finding a fit was easy. I've since replaced them with Comply tips that came with my TDK buds. This did improve the sound a bit, and increased isolation. Isolation on these is so-so. There's a little port on the bottom or each ear by the cable. I'm assuming this is the reason for the relatively light isolation.
Overall, these are a great buy. I'm quite happy with my set, although if you can afford them (or find them at r o s s, google it), the TDK BA-200 blows these away. For the price these are the best I've seen.
The overall headphone quality is very good. Everything is metal. There is NO plastic in these, whatsoever. I took apart my last pair, and was able to confirm that. The earbud casing, backing, and front plates are made of metal. The splitter and jack are also metal. They are open-backed earbuds, but don't leak any more sound than any other pair. On to the sound quality, all I can say is wow. Just wow. Pure magic. The soundstage is present and excellent. The highs are crisp and pure. Mids are excellent. Bass is intriguing. Tight, controlled, thumping bass. There is no crackling or distortion. These sound, feel, and look more expensive than they really are. I'm not sure why they are $35. I would gladly pay up to around $100 for these. That's how good they are.
The earbuds come with a pleather, oversized carrying bag, fourteen eartips, and a clothing clip. I can do nothing but heavily recommend these. If you are looking for excellent earbuds in the $30-$90 range, get these.
EDIT: After purchasing some Audio Technica M50's (the absolute highest rated headphone on Amazon), I can conclude that these sound almost as good. The Audio Technica's are $144.99. These are $34.99. The Audio Technica's are only SLIGHTLY better. Just slightly. That is amazing. I have a pair of JLAB JBUD Epic earbuds that cost $49.99. The E10's blow the Epic's out of the water. These are insane.
Here is a detailed rating scale on how I would rate these:
Sound quality: 9.5/10 (little lacking is deep bass)
Build quality: 7/10 (glue doesn't hold very well on jack piece, y-splitter, and back earbud piece)
Build materials: 10/10 (five words, coiled rubber cable and metal)
Acessories: 10/10 (why do they give you so much stuff?!)
Overall: 9.1/10 (amazing!)
I do not rate products lightly. I really don't. I am NOT one of those people who rates everything either 1 or 5 stars. Please just buy these already!
