The Nolan 4K Collection

Dunkirk

From filmmaker Christopher Nolan (“Interstellar,” “Inception,” “The Dark Knight” Trilogy) comes the epic action thriller “Dunkirk.” “Dunkirk” opens as hundreds of thousands of British and Allied troops are surrounded by enemy forces. Trapped on the beach with their backs to the sea, they face an impossible situation as the enemy closes in. The story unfolds on land, sea and air. RAF Spitfires engage the enemy in the skies above the Channel, trying to protect the defenseless men below. Meanwhile, hundreds of small boats manned by both military and civilians are mounting a desperate rescue effort, risking their lives in a race against time to save even a fraction of their army.

Inception

Acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan directs an international cast in this sci-fi actioner that travels around the globe and into the world of dreams. Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) is the best there is at extraction: stealing valuable secrets inside the subconscious during the mind’s vulnerable dream state. His skill has made him a coveted player in industrial espionage but has also made him a fugitive and cost him dearly. Now he may get a second chance if he can do the impossible: inception, planting an idea rather than stealing one. If they succeed, Cobb and his team could pull off the perfect crime. But no planning or expertise can prepare them for a dangerous enemy who seems to predict their every move. An enemy only Cobb could have seen coming.

Interstellar

From director Christopher Nolan (Inception, The Dark Knight Trilogy) comes the story of a team of pioneers undertaking the most important mission in human history. Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey stars as ex-pilot-turned-farmer Cooper, who must leave his family and a foundering Earth behind to lead an expedition traveling beyond this galaxy to discover whether mankind has a future among the stars. Academy Award winner Anne Hathaway and Academy Award nominee Jessica Chastain also star in the landmark film Lou Lumenick of the New York Post calls one of the most exhilarating film experiences so far this century.

The Prestige

Thriller starring Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale. Rupert Angier (Jackman) and Alfred Borden (Bale) are London-based magicians of the highest order, both blessed with spectacular powers of deception and both cursed with unrelenting envy for one another's skills. When Alfred performs an awe-inspiring trick for which there seems no logical explanation, the friendly competition shared between the pair turns to deadly rivalry as the enraged Rupert determines to uncover his rival's deepest secrets. In the world of illusion, however, nothing is ever quite as it seems, and the rules of the physical world simply don't apply. Now, as bitter competition quickly begins to consume the souls of both performers, the firestorm birthed by their anger threatens to consume all who surround them.

The Nolan 4K Collection

Batman Begins

Acclaimed director Christopher Nolan explores the origins of the legendary Dark Knight. After his parents' murders, dillusioned heir Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) travels the world seeking the means to fight injustice. With the help of his trusted butler Alfred (Michael Caine), Detective Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) and his ally Lucius Fox (morgan freeman), Wayne returns to Gotham and unleashes his alter ego: Batman, a masked crusader who uses strength, intellect and high-tech weaponry to fight evil.

The Dark Knight

The follow-up to Batman Begins, The Dark Knight reunites director Christopher Nolan and star Christian Bale, who reprises the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne in his continuing war on crime. With the help of Lt. Jim Gordon and District Attorney Harvey Dent, Batman sets out to destroy organised crime in Gotham for good. The triumvirate proves effective. But soon the three find themselves prey to a rising criminal mastermind known as The Joker, who thrusts Gotham into anarchy and forces Batman closer to crossing the fine line between hero and vigilante.

The Dark Knight Rises

Eight years ago, after assuming the blame for D.A. Harvey Dent's death, a disgraced Batman (Christian Bale) mysteriously vanished. But everything changes with the appearance of a cunning cat burglar (Anne Hathaway) and the arrival of Bane (Tom Hardy), a ruthless madman. Bane's reign of terror forces Bruce out of his self-imposed exile and into ultimate battle for Gotham City's survival... and his own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great set to kickstart a 4K Blu Ray Collection
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 7, 2022
I needed to justify the purchase of my 4K Blu Ray player, so the Nolan Collection was an obvious choice. I kept an eye on this set until the price was right, which thankfully didn't take long.

The box set comes with three large plastic cases that house 7 discs each. What you get are all 7 films in 4K Blu-ray, the 7 standard Blu-ray copies, as well as a selection of special features on separate (standard) Blu-ray Disks.

I had no issues with the quality of the discs, the cases or the housing. For me, not having individual cases isn't a big deal, but if that's what you're after this set might disappoint. I won't talk about the films themselves as if you're looking for a Nolan box set, you probably already know about them, but I will say that I have no complaints with regard to the quality of each 4k transfer, though it's a pity none support dolby vision.

It always amuses me that including the standard Blu-ray seems to be standard practice for 4K releases, I can only assume they need to get rid of old stock. That said I doubt this would be much cheaper if they were excluded and they are always handy to lend to friends.
