Editorial Reviews

Review

“Among the many indigenous picture books of this season, Angus and the Ducks stands out for good and sufficient reasons. It is good to look at, it is delightful to read aloud...and above all it has an inner and outer harmony...There is every prospect that Angus and the Ducks can lay claim to a kind of permanence.” ―Books, 1930

My son, now in his 30's, insisted on this story, along with Angus and the Ducks, at least once a day for years! They are now his daughter's favorite bedtime books as well. A delightful story of a Scotty dog's encounter with the sounds that he heard every day from the other side of the hedge. Charming, and very exciting to a toddler! You won't tire of it.

If you want a beautiful wholesome book dealing with the innocence of a lovable scottie dog and his adventure with some ducks acting like, well, ducks, this one is sweet, explores actions and consequences, and opens doors to plenty of discussion on many levels with children of many ages. A classic! Good for ages 2-7... and can be enjoyed for its aesthetic value by those older.

We originally read Angus Lost with my 3 year old son. He loved it so much he could recite the entire book from memory within days. We decided to try Angus and the Cat and Angus and the Ducks as well. He may even love these two books more than Angus Lost. They are all heartwarming stories about a curious Scottie dog. The illustrations are old-fashioned, but I love that these sweet stories are fun to read, memorable, and without any questionable content. I would say these are great books for any child between 2.5-4

These books are classics from back in the day. The artwork and minimal use of color- bright color with pastel is appealing. Children can identify with the (sometimes) naughty or lonely little dog. As. Scottish Terrier lover, I have them all. I bought this as a baby gift.

I loved this book so much as a child. That even when it was falling apart, I felt the need to hang on to it. But After I moved away from home I lost track of it. Now I have a brand new copy. I remembered the wonderful illustrations vividly. The story is cute too, I can almost hear one of my relatives reading it to me.(Espesially emphisizing the WooooF!!! Part)!!! I Plan On purchasing a copy for a friends brand new baby girl very soon!!!

This is a sweet little book. My children are grown, but I do have Scotty children. I love all things Scotty!
The parcel arrived early but was open. Looks like it wasn't sealed properly.

An enjoyable book for my kids. My only complaint is that the paperback edition is very flimsy - the cover is not thick at all. Should've ordered hardcover for longevity...

I got this for my dog-loving 1.5 year old, and she was really excited to see it. We read it for the first time today. I found the layout to be quite contemporary, and the alternating black & white and color illustrations held my daughter's interest. I didn't think it was too complex for a children's book (the way some old children's books are). She loved the sound effects of the dog 'woofing' and the ducks 'quacking' so I thought it was a very interactive book as well.

Petite déception car j'imaginais l'édition de meilleure qualité (j'avais prévu de l'offrir à une fan de bons illustrateurs). Mais les illustrations restent belles, alors je le garde pour moi.

I bought this book for my own children, and they loved it. The pictures are bright and the words few, there is suspense and humor in Angus the adorable scotty dogs antics with the ducks next door. She loved it, and laughed with delight with the ending. I would recommend this book and the other Marjorie Flack books . They are timeless.
