Product Description
Since Osprey was founded in 1974, every single product design has passed through the hands of owner and founder Mike Pfotenhauer, who created his first backpack at age 16. In Santa Cruz, California, the young entrepreneur opened a retail shop in the front of his rental house where backpackers and travelers came for custom-fit, made-to-order packs constructed over several days by Mike himself. As the demand for the great-fitting packs increased, Osprey found itself relocating to its current home in Southwest Colorado. Today, Osprey is a melting pot of diverse personalities, backgrounds and abilities. All share the common belief that adventure is open to everyone and found anywhere.

Osprey's History

From stitching the first lines of custom-fitted packs, to meticulously designing innovative products with intuitive features, to forging personal relationships with the sewing operators who construct the packs, Mike has been the unbreakable thread that makes Osprey a top company.

There are aspects which were made with bike commuting in mind. Like, in the main compartment there is a zip up compartment to put cycling shoes which I use for putting my change of clothes when I get to the office. And, there is an outer compartment which has an elastic band you can attach your helmet to, this compartment has enough space for storing a lock, and I use it for storing my bike computer/rear light/front light when I go into places, and for storing my bike lock cable. The straps for holding it to the body when biking are a little flimsy, but they get the job done and make it feel stable when you are biking.
And, a huge aspect is the general overall comfort of the bag. It has structure to it which gives a gap between your back and the bag that allows for air flow, and the padding makes it very comfortable to wear. It is a massive upgrade over previous backpacks I have biked with.
In addition to that, it have a great storage capacity, with enough different compartments to allow for some organization.
Off the bike no one knows this is an internal framed backpack that is meant for biking the helmet holder tucks away neatly and the rain cover works great in inclement weather.as a bonus, it is extra bright green and not hi vis yellow with a reflective osprey logo.
Fully loaded, the backpack can hold everything I have needed to carry and have space for extras. The great part of the internal frame is that the body of the backpack doesn’t sit directly on your back and has airflow between the bag and your body keeping you a lot drier than most hydration packs/riding bags. The material is of a high quality and osprey knows their stuff.
If you are on the fence, buy it. You won’t regret it
The airflow mesh is the back is really good. I don't feel the sturdy frame around the pack while I wear it but I do feel that I don't sweat. Great design.
Only slight negative is that the bag just barely fits under front seats when on a plane. It's slightly too tall and sticks out a bit onto the seat row. I haven't had any flight attendants note that the pack sticks out slightly on different flights and on different airlines, but it does make me a little worried. This concern has never made me not take this bag with me when I travel. Definitely my go to.
Endless walking with lots of weight and compartments has been a breeze. This isn't a sponsored review. Just a regular Amazon customer.
Pros: the bag is super comfortable, even when loaded up. Walking through the airport, it makes it a breeze.
The amount of stuff I can put into the bag is impressive. I care a laptop, iPad, a lot of cords, a hard headphone case, and a variety of other things I need. I can fit it all, plus I was able to fit a change of clothes.
The garment/shoe pocket is nice to keep things separate and away from my gear, or from spilling out.
The expandable area really adds a lot of capacity- however, when stuff, I had a little trouble getting it under the airline seat.
The kick stand works great most of the time, unless your load is wonky, or not enough is in. Helpful though, but occasionally falls over.
Overall this bag is great but… a few things I would like to change or could be better.
I miss a side pocket for a bottle or to stash something quickly. It fits on the the open pocket in the front (the side away from your back).
Pockets for stuff. There are a few small pockets, but not enough. There are two spots for pens. 3,we’ll call medium pockets, for a battery pack, business cards, and other items. It could use a little more organization. I have a grid it which helps with cords but that doesn’t solve everything.
The waste strap, which is removable, is pretty small. I’m not big by any means, nor am I small, and I can just connect it with a little room to winch- and then it’s not comportable, just the strap.
If you’re looking for a bag that can hold a good amount, is comfortable, and don’t need a lot of specific organization, this is a great bag.

So far, the only complaint I have is the number of loose straps. It's not a deal-breaker for me, but it does strike me as a pretty major oversight to not include pockets or otherwise to stow straps on a backpack designed for cycling. I hope that Osprey will include these in the next version of the Radial, because it's the only issue I have with an otherwise outstanding backpack.
Pros
