So this was a HUGE upgrade. The biggest difference is the new WiFi AC standard. Most of my newer devices support AC WiFi, but I was stuck with the N standard due to my outdated router. After the upgrade, i was able to take advantage of AC wifi on my new Samsung TV, my new Galaxy s7 Edge smart phone, iPad Air2, and my wife's iPhone 6s. I had no idea I was missing out on ac wifi for almost all of my wireless devices!
Another critical difference is the processor. The dual core 800MHZ processor leaves my old LinkSys in the dust. So how much of a performance boost did I get? Before the upgrade, I would average around 1Mbs down and 1 up, and often speeds would be even slower than that. I had even forgotten that my ISP provides 25 Mbps down/3 up with my current plan since I was bogged down by my old router for so long. After the upgrade, I'm almost always able to consistently max out my full connection speed. I've yet to see a streaming movie buffer. FPS games on PS4 are playable again, although I would still of course recommend a wired gaming setup. Huge improvement!
As for the features and setup, this router is impressive. Setup was a breeze, and I was up and running in under 15 minutes. One impressive feature, which is one of reasons I decided on NetGear, is NetGear Genie. This is a smart app for Android and Apple devices that allows you to control your WiFi network from your phone or tablet. So much more convenient than having to use your PC! You can enable/disable guest access, view/change wireless settings, check network performance/utilization, and even reboot the router from the mobile app. It's easy to use and works great. I live in small apartment, so I can't really comment on WiFi range. My entire apartment, as well as the hallway outside, are fully covered by my network.
I also make use of the USB 3.0 port on the front of the router, plugging in my 6TB hdd for use as a network drive across my home network. The NetGear web interface allows you to easily set up network shares with 3 basic permission levels - read only, read/write, and write with admin password only. This is useful if you have a shared folder that you want to allow everyone on your network to see (pictures/videos for example), but you only want administrators to be able to change or delete files via username and password. The interface also allows for easy FTP server setup, although I haven't used it and probably won't ever need to.
The router itself is definitely on the large size, easily 50% larger than my old router, and has the 3 lengthy antennas on the top. There are many LED indicators across the front of the router, with some of them also serving as buttons to toggle WiFi channels on/off. The LED's are quite bright and flash rapidly. So keep this in mind if you plan on stationing the router in a dark room. It might be somewhat distracting in a living or bed room if you plan on watching TV or trying to sleep.
All in all, this is a great product that has definitely met my needs. It has great features such as NetGear Genie, and the USB 3.0 port on the front for attaching a network drive or printer. The performance is great with the latest WiFi AC standard and dual core processor. It has been more than sufficient for daily use streaming multiple FHD videos simultaneously, gaming, and web browsing - and I have never had the need to reboot it in two+ months. I would recommend this product to anyone that has several modern wireless devices and makes frequent use of WiFi at home. Your router is the core device in your home network and will make or break your experience, so shell out a few extra bucks for this model or an even higher one.
We cut cable about 2 years ago so we rely on internet for most of our entertainment. We do a lot of streaming and gaming which use a lot of internet. Over the several years that we cut cable, we keep adding devices that use the internet and we noticed our internet speeds getting slower and slower. Off the top of my head, devices that we have in our home that use the internet are: 2 cell phones, 1 tablet, 2 laptops, an Amazon Fire TV box, an Android TV Box, a Playstation 4, and even our printer is on wifi! So thats 9 devices connected, several of which use a lot of internet. We pay for 60mbps through our internet provider but we usually only see 30-40mbps when we do a speed test, and it even seems slower when we have multiple devices going at once. We were getting frustrated thinking that it was our internet provider slowing us down or not giving us the speeds that we pay for. Before deciding to switch internet providers or upgrade our plan we decided to try a new router first. Previously we had an old Netgear n300 router. We figured that router was fine since it supports up to 300mbps and we only pay for 60. I guess it just couldnt handle the load of all the different devices trying to connect to it. This Netgear AC1750 is a HUGE upgrade! I am so glad we decided to try a better router before paying even more for a faster internet plan.
This router has so many great features that have greatly improved our internet at home. It has 3 powerful external antennas that mean I can finally get a powerful signal in our basement! Previously I was using so much data on my cell phone because it couldnt connect to to our wifi if I was in our basement so it was eating our data plan. Now with the external antennas, our entire house is covered with a nice powerful signal. Not only our house, but our yard. I was out mowing the other day and had a nice solid signal out in the yard to stream music while I mowed.
The 2.4ghz AND 5.0ghz connections make a ton of difference! Our cellphones, my laptop, and my Android TV box all connect to the 5ghz connection which is a nice fast connection, but that also means it makes room for other devices on the 2.4ghz connection which is going to speed them up as well.
This router is seriously powerful and made a huge difference in our home, and might be able to make a difference in your home as well if you feel you arent getting the speeds that you are paying for.
Check out my pictures. They were taken on the exact same day before installing the router and right after installing it. It bumped my cell phone up 20mpbs!!

The tech support is also very good and resolves all the issues that are out of your reach.
I purchased this router and my internet experience had been excellent so far. This router comes with a lot of features. You can use the Nighthawk app to control the settings etc. the WiFi signal strength is good and the 2G signal quite conveniently covers my entire house giving good internet speed.
But, actually it is our Indian concrete houses that are to blame. I have tried different types of routers but a blind spot in my living room just doesn't go. I guess I will have to get a repeater.
Enough ranting.
The router is otherwise good. Looks great is a little big. You better check your desk space. It cant be placed sideways. Can be wall mounted.
Performance does not suffer even with 12 devices connected via Wifi and 1 via cable. It has a USB connection to attach flash drive or hard drive which acts as a NAS. Lot of stuff from Netgear on the settings page. You can manage the router using a mobile app too.
Go for it if you have lot of deivces and need a good NAS solution all in one.
