Purchase options and add-ons
Keep your family close and your enemies closer.
Beth is the darling of God Halsa, a pharmaceutical giant, and she’s got the outrageous salary and lifestyle to prove it. Until she lands in white-collar women’s prison, thanks to a high-profile whistleblower suit.
Sam, Beth’s husband, used to be the town’s most eligible bachelor, and he’s never had to do anything for himself. Until his wife goes to jail, and he’s left to raise two daughters on his own.
Lise, the au pair, is the whistleblower. But is she? Everyone knows she’s not clever enough to have done it alone.
Hannah, Sam’s sister, is devoted to her family. There’s nothing she wouldn’t do for them.
Eva, Beth’s sister, is the smart one. (Read: not the pretty one.) Her life seems perfect on the surface, but sibling rivalry runs deep.
Martin, Beth’s brother, is the firstborn, the former golden boy turned inside-the Beltway businessman. But what is he hiding?
Someone knows something. Someone betrayed Beth.
This is the story of the Min-Lindstroms. This is the story of the all-American family as it implodes under the weight of secrets, lies and the unchecked desire for wealth and power.
A.H. Kim is an immigrant, graduate of Harvard College and Berkeley Law, lawyer, and mother of two sons. She lives in San Francisco with her husband. A Good Family is her first novel.

About the author
A.H. Kim (Ann) was born in Seoul, South Korea and immigrated to the U.S. as a young child. Ann was educated at Harvard College and Berkeley Law School, where she was an editor of the California Law Review. Ann practiced corporate law for many years and served as chief of staff to the CEO and as head of investor relations at a Fortune 200 company.
Ann is the proud mother of two sons, a longtime cancer survivor, and community volunteer. After raising her family in the Bay Area, Ann and her husband now call Ann Arbor home.
Ann's debut novel, A GOOD FAMILY, was inspired by her personal experience supporting her brother and nieces while her sister-in-law served time in Alderson Women’s Prison Camp.
Ann’s second novel, RELATIVE STRANGERS (formerly Well Matched), is a contemporary retelling of Sense and Sensibility and explores themes of love, loss, grief, and forgiveness. RELATIVE STRANGERS will be published in April 2024.

It's hard to give it the review it deserves without spoilers but all I can say is this book really truly shows how families can be destroyed by codependency, secrets, greed and selfishness. This book would make a excellent book club.So many characters, so many issues so many characters that you can relate to, understand the paths they took and have sympathy for but you also witness their own self destruction. Who are the likeable, who are the worst behaved ? In this family it's a complicated race to a very sad finish line. I won't say anymore but it's definitely worth your time. You will finish this book and need to talk to others that read it because , well it's that kind of read in a good way.
The book has diverse characters, but I didn't feel like it made diversity a box to be checked. As a minority woman myself, I felt that refreshing. Born in the 70s and growing up in the 80s/90s, I cracked up with the references to pop culture. I found myself snort laughing at the characters' musings re society around them because I've had those musings as well. The book is witty and smart. For me, a great book causes me to connect to the characters. I definitely did this in this book. I also need to understand characters' motivation behind their actions. I was able to do that here. (I just finished another popular book and I could not understand the characters' motivation. It made me angry. Hehe)
The mystery of the book left me speechless. I actually thought "wait, what is happening here?"--but in a good way. I want to read it again to pick up on clues that I missed.
The imagery was great--it was accessible. Sometimes, I can't connect to other books where the imagery is "complicated" and overboard. I could picture the characters and events in my head. I think this is screenplay material and can picture this as a movie. I've recently seen reviews that also mentioned the same thing.
I can't wait for the second book by the author.
