Set in an opulent mansion, the story centers around the Thrombey family, a dysfunctional clan with motives aplenty. After the patriarch, Harlan Thrombey (portrayed magnificently by Christopher Plummer), is found dead, the eccentric and razor-sharp detective Benoit Blanc (played impeccably by Daniel Craig) is called in to unravel the twisted web of lies and deceit. From the cunning grandson Ransom (Chris Evans) to the mysterious housekeeper Marta (Ana de Armas), every character in this ensemble cast delivers a captivating performance, making it a sheer delight to watch their interactions unfold.
One of the strongest aspects of "Knives Out" is its tight script. Rian Johnson weaves an intricate narrative filled with unexpected twists and turns, ensuring the audience remains on the edge of their seats throughout. The clues are cleverly placed, and the red herrings are abundant, leading viewers down a labyrinthine path of revelations. Just when you think you've solved the puzzle, the film throws a curveball that will leave you astounded.
The production design is top-notch, immersing you in the luxurious world of the Thrombeys while slyly mirroring the complexities of their relationships. The cinematography captures the essence of a classic whodunit, with long shots and sweeping camera movements, adding a timeless touch to the film.
But what sets "Knives Out" apart from other murder mysteries is its biting wit and impeccable sense of humor. The witty banter between characters and Daniel Craig's brilliant Southern drawl add a refreshing and entertaining layer to the story, balancing tension and levity in perfect harmony.
Additionally, "Knives Out" manages to comment on social issues subtly without detracting from the primary mystery. It cleverly touches on themes of privilege, entitlement, and immigration, making it a more thought-provoking experience beyond being just a compelling whodunit.
In conclusion, "Knives Out" is a cinematic gem that delivers on all fronts. With its expertly crafted plot, phenomenal performances, and a touch of comedy, it's an absolute must-watch for anyone who loves a thrilling and intelligent mystery. Prepare to be amazed, enthralled, and thoroughly entertained from beginning to end.
It really dragged at the beginning and included a lot more use of profanity than in the original Knives Out. It took about a half an hour or more to finally pick up to where you wanted to actually watch the movie and find out what was going to happen. I almost turned it off 15 minutes after it started but decided to give it a little more time.
The beginning also had some very inappropriate humor that some would find rather offensive, and it really could have be done differently. One of the actor's vocation was a Tik Tok account and his "branding", well writers of this movie could have made it a different line as to what he did on that Social Media. It wasn't necessary to the movie to make it that one particular line that they chose for him.
Most of my family felt the same way I did about the movie. Only one out of four thought that it was pretty good and liked it equal to the original movie. The ending also left something to be desired because it didn't really seem like a wrap up to the whole movie. While the movie wasn't the worst one that I have ever seen, it certainly wasn't the best either.
