Product Description

Ecowash Portable Hand Cranked Non-Electric Washing Machine by Avalon Bay, Counter Top Washer for Camping, Apartments, RV’s, or Delicates

When you’re seeking a portable and environmentally cautious option for washing laundry, you’ll find an amazing product in the Avalon Bay EcoWash Portable Washing Machine. This unit operates with a hand crank, meaning it doesn’t require any electrical power, making it a smart idea for camping.

The Avalon Bay hand-operated, washing machine consumes absolutely no power, all while delivering spotlessly clean and sparkling clothes in as little as two minutes. It also uses quite a bit less water than your typical washing machine, which is another strong, ecofriendly feature of the
EcoWash. This unit is compact, lightweight and highly portable, which makes it the perfect appliance choice for every modern home that’s concerned with its environmental footprint.

With this hand operated washing machine, you can clean up to 5 pounds of clothes in about two minutes. For a safe operation, you can set the unit on any flat surface. Because it occupies a lot less space than even the smallest electric washers do, it’s a smart option for a small apartment or for the traveler.

Simply put, it’s one of the most user-friendly washing machines out there.

The Avalon Bay EcoWash machine measures just 17.5 inches in length, 16 inches in width and 18 inches in height when fully assembled. As an additional advantage, you can disassemble the portable washer two minutes, meaning it requires very little storage space. Reassembly is easy too and only requires another two minutes.

The EcoWash Portable Washing Machine’s size, and unbelievably light weight design yield one of the smartest products on the market for the person who needs an option for doing laundry while on the go. You can easily carry this appliance, and place it near a tub, a sink or another water source for clothes washing. Take it with you when you go camping and place it in your RV, in your cabin or wherever you’re staying.

The unique design of the Avalon Bay EcoWash features no agitators or any protruding elements on the inside. This design differs from other mini-washers on the market, where the protrusions often end up tearing apart your clothes or ripping off the buttons, hooks and other fasteners on your clothes.

Unlike laundry machines that are hard on your delicate clothes and that reduce their wearable lifespan, EcoWash's soft wash cycle will clean your delicates, while ensuring that they’ll continue to look great.

Handy!

Handy!
I ordered 2 of these...1 for myself and the other for my son.I'm very pleased with the product except for putting it together. Waay too tight on the sides to slide down so I wasn't able to use a few of the tiny plastic inserts. I literally tried everything to slide the sides down. Guess it's going to be alright without the pieces since I've been using the washer without problems so far.Aside from assembly, this little machine works great! Easy to crank as the other reviews said and gets clothes nice and clean (see dirty water!)My sister even ordered one for their camper when they get one.

I just love this machine! I had one of these back in college. Parents gave it to me as a gift. At first, I wasn’t excited about it, but when I started using it, it was my favorite gift. I used it for years until it finally broke. Thought I’d never find another. Found it! This is perfect for washing all your hand washables and even those items you just didn’t have time to go to the laundromat for. Yes, it takes no more than 5 lbs, but that’s plenty. I wash all my workout clothes in this and it works perfectly. When I have a specific outfit I wanted to wear the next day, but couldn’t get to the laundromat, I just pop it in my eco wash and hang it to dry. Presto! The trick is that you spin it slow. If I have particularly soiled stuff, I put just a few pieces in at a time and add warm water with detergent. I close the top and let it sit for a few hours while I’m off doing other stuff. I go back home, spin the washer for two minutes, drain it, add more water, no soap, spin for a minute, drain, and rinse items under the faucet.they come out better, much of the time, than if I’d thrown them in the washer! Love it. It’s sturdy. If you treat it well, it will last a long time.

Our "big" washer is malfunctioning. A trip to the laundromat usually costs about $25, so this little guy pays for itself rather quickly, and is much more convenient. It is indeed easy to use. Slip a fingernail under the suction cups if you want them to let go. By no means is it a large commercial washer, but it holds a respectable amount of laundry, and gets it clean. The lid has a slight learning curve - if the screw knob is snugged down, the lid won't attach properly. Unscrew the knob, and presto, it goes on.

I also bought an Oxo "large" kitchen squeeze bottle and a stainless steel 1 Tbsp (coffee) scoop to manage the laundry detergent storage and portioning for the EcoWash

I really wanted to post an honest review for our use because I didn’t see many that were similar. Our washer broke about 2-3 weeks ago. I mean broke as I’m burning smell. Personally I’m always trying to go green in as many practical ways as possible. We are a family of 5 with one in cloth diapers. A week of hand washing in the tub and I was over that. So we purchased the eco wash portable washer. Design wise it’s good. I would have preferred a more sturdy base and the drain spout to be pointing down. Those are the only reasons I give it a 4. As for use, it’s great. I don’t follow the water guidelines though because the clothes generally absorb all of that and there’s nothing left to agitate with. So I just pour until I can see the water on the side when I tip it. If you’re wondering what 5lbs of laundry looks like, for us, it’s about half a laundry basket filled to the top and not over flowing. You want to leave room for the clothes to move otherwise they won’t agitate and won’t get clean. I do not wash towels in this though because they absorb so much water and are difficult to get clean. For regular wash I put soap In first and then use my sprayer from the sink to add water and get the suds going. Then I add clothes and more water. I do 100 rotations each way. Then I drain, add water and do 50 rotations each way and drain again. I ring my clothes dry and put them in a basket with a towels to absorb more moisture. If it’s a sunny day out I’ll hang them out back to dry. Otherwise the dryer still works. I do two loads in this to make one load for the dryer. Diapers are a different story. I’m still on a trial and error with these. But I think we’ve got a good routine and haven’t had rash issues or stains. He’s on solids so we spray the poo. I wash about every three days. I can fit about 10 diapers in here and that’s prefolds and AIOs. To do diapers I put them in with a little detergent and some warm water. I do 50 rotations each way and then let them soak for about 20-30 minutes. If I have any stains or stink I add oxyclean. After soaking I drain and add more detergent and hot water. I do 100 rotations each way and let them sit for another 10 minutes, drain, add more water, 50 rotations each way, and drain. Problem with diapers is that at this point you’ll need to ring them out by hand because they are still holding in pee water. So I ring them out, put them back in and do another rinse. Again if it’s nice out they get some sun. So there ya go!

I purchased this because I wanted to save time and money. I definitely save a LOT of money using this product, but not a whole lot of time. I can get 3 weeks of laundry done in a laundry mat in about 2 hours (including traveling and loading) but I can get about 1 week of laundry done in about 1 hour. Plus, I can't do a lot of the bigger things like winter coats, comforters, or heavy blankets. My sweatshirt came out smelling funny- which is why a rinse cycle is very important, but otherwise, the clothes do come out pretty clean. I wouldn't say it works better than a washer, but probably just as good if you operate it correctly. When I did my load of towels, they dried on the clothesline and were brittle and scratchy. However, that doesn't mean I didn't find a use for this washer. Like I said, it saves me a lot of money on gas, washing expenses, water & electricity, and on detergent. And once you get into the rhythm of it, it's kinda like doing dishes by hand- you just get used to scheduling it in. Rather than blabbing on and on, I made a few bullet point lists.

What it is good for:
-smaller loads
-outdoor chore (especially if it doesn't fit next to your sink)
-saving on water and electricity
- saving on money
- camping (if you can work around the bulkiness like putting thins inside the drum)
- if it is paired with another Avalon Bay product or if you have a decent way to wring out clothes and dry them. (Wringing them by hand takes a LOT of effort)
- less bulky clothes (especially dry-fit clothes!)

Who is this product made for
- Those who like to rough it camping
- people who live in small apartments with difficult access to washers
- environmentalists
- those who want to save money and don't care if it takes a little extra time.
- people who live in warmer climates that don't have lots of bulky clothes (People from the North, beware! If you wear lots and lots of sweaters, it can be difficult and time-consuming.)
- if you don't mind using multiple products to clean your clothes

Disadvantages
- can't do heavier clothes
- takes a little bit to learn how to use it as efficiently as possible in order to save you time (I haven't quite got there yet).
- works best with a spinner and a dryer of some kind.
