Product Description
This user-friendly and portable sewing and quilting machine offers a wide range of quilting and sewing features at an affordable price. The CS6000i features 60 built-in sewing stitches, including decorative stitches and 7 styles of one-step buttonholes. There are 9 presser feet included in this machine - buttonhole, overcasting, monogramming, zipper, zigzag, blindstich, button fitting, walking, and spring action quilting foot. This machine also includes a detachable wide table that is perfect for larger quilting projects. The Brother CS6000i sewing machine has been engineered for ease of use. A simple-to-view backlit LCD display, an automatic needle threader, easy-to-follow threading diagrams, and an adjustable sewing speed control system are all included. An easy-to-see, brightly lit sewing area is quite helpful when sewing on dark fabrics. An automatic needle threader has been added to perfectly align thread through the needle. A built-in free arm helps to assist with sewing pant legs, sleeves, and other cylindrical items. The CS6000i sewing machine also includes a hard machine case, making it a perfect traveling sewing machine. The CS6000i sewing and quilting machine includes a printed Quick Start guide and complete instructions manuals in English and Spanish. We do not recommend using this machine in countries that do not support 120V AC, even if a voltage adapter is in use. This sewing and quilting machine includes a bilingual user manual, a 25-year limited, and free technical support for the life of the product.

Compared to my high end machine, here's what I noticed after putting this machine through its paces on a color-blocked full-length dress coat:
The Good:
- The walking foot on this machine works better than the built-in even feed foot on my high end machine.
- I was able to use a generic stitch-in-the-ditch foot that I got for cheap.
- The bobbin was easy to wind and set.
- The speed control is set with the simple movement of a slider (rather than a high-tech menu that is buried three layers deep).
- The stitch quality was acceptable - even and without skipped stitches. When I handed my husband two samples and asked him to guess which came from my expensive vs. my cheap machine, he guessed wrong and thought that the sample from this machine came from the high-end one.
- The machine purrs rather than clacks.
- The extension table and extra feet are useful.
The Bad:
- By default the straight stitch aligns to the left instead of center. This was frustrating because I was mainly using a straight-stitch foot and had to be sure to move the needle to center position to ensure I didn't hit the presser foot with the needle.
- The machine is incredibly light weight so it moves around on the table as the fabric feeds.
- On thick seams the machine simply won't go through the layers. It's nice that it errors out rather than breaking a needle or damaging the motor. Still, if you want to go through thick seams, you'll need another machine (maybe a metal vintage Kenmore or Singer?) to get the job done.
- The throat space (the area between the needle bar and the body of the machine) isn't very large so don't expect to quilt anything larger than a table runner.
- The needle bar was off by 1/16" when I received the machine in the mail. I asked my sewing friends over at patternreview.com for advice and a nice gent created a youtube video that helped me see how to move the needle bar position. I was basically able to gently nudge it over with light pressure. It's a bit worrisome that something so fundamental to the machine timing can be adjusted with gentle pressure and no tools. I suppose that's how it got messed up in the first place. Probably had some gentle pressure on it during shipping. By comparison, nothing I did to my high end machine could budge the needle bar position by even a 1/64".
Overall, I wouldn't recommend this as a primary machine or a beginner's machine. For a beginner, look for something more solid. It can be frustrating enough to learn to sew without a machine having timing issues and other little nuances to throw you off. For an advanced sewer, this is a good back up or travel machine. Don't expect too much from it, and it won't disappoint.
Top reviews from other countries
I can’t really say much on weight as I’ve never owned a machine before but it’s light enough for me to carry from upstairs to downstairs when I need to use it and the case keeps it well protected.
The see-through bobbin case is a big plus for me, as I love being able to double-check that I have enough thread. The needle threader, which I’ve never had before, works like a charm, and it takes me barely twenty seconds to retread my machine now. It’s also way quieter than my old machine, and just has a nice sound about it.
All of the accessories that came with it work well. The walking foot is a revelation, and my new favourite toy when sewing stretch fabric. As aforementioned, it’s really easy and quick to re-thread the machine. There’s a sticker with a simple diagram up top, and each piece that you use when threading the machine is numbered.
It’s pretty easy to switch out needles and feet. The computer part works well; I have no issues scrolling quickly through the stitches, and I appreciate that it tells you which foot to use for which stitch.
I’ve sewn through a lot of different types of fabric, and this machine has held up well under all of them. I wanted something that was multi-purpose but had more options than my ancient Singer offered. This one was a fantastic choice, and I’m really glad it’s the one I got.
However, I was disappointed to find that the box had been opened previously and taped back up -- a return. It appears that it had not even been checked at Amazon from the previous return; the return form from the previous recipient with full name and North Carolina address were in the box. So much for privacy of information. Assuming the reason for return was not a problem with the machine, I am happy with it. Time will tell. Good product. Weak fulfillment.
