The collection cup is a little small and the screw to hold it in place has to be turned very lightly or it will fracture the plexiglass
It also looks like it’s difficult to clean everything
It's 4th year now running this skimmer and it is still doing a good job without major trouble.
Occasionally you have to break off the salt deposits inside the air inlet pipe but it is inevitable maintenance I believe. Overall this is by far the best small-sized skimmer for me. I'm using it for 40g tank. Solid product!
Because I was expecting the overflow I had properly prepared. Having a tile floor was a big plus.
After several adjustments I was able to control the foam. As a precaution I placed the retaining cup as high as possible. Also as a precaution I unplugged the unit for the first night.
The following morning I plugged the skimmer back up and to my surprise the foam was under control. I am still making adjustments to the cup but I expected over the next few days to get it to a permanent level. I am starting to get skim mate and I am sure it will increase over the next few days.
At this point, I am extremely happy with the skimmer. It is powerful, quiet, and fits perfect behind my tank and hidden by my canopy. I will update my review in a few weeks.
UPDATE; I love my reef octopus. It has settled down and producing so much skim mate. It is the perfect size and is very powerful. What I like the most is it is ultra quiet. I highly recommend this product.

Pros:good skimming, not noisy, fits in small places if your sump is full
Cons:impossible to clean with big hands. Since the thing sits on the back or side of your tank and is made out of clear acrylic, algae grows like crazy from your tank lights. The openings are only like two to three inches wide and you have to take piping off to get down in it. Worst thing is you don't know it's super dirty until it starts to constantly overflow.
I would not buy again if I could do over for the maintenance issue alone. I'd go with a cylinder one and just plumb it into my sump
