Revenge is a dish best served hot in this exhilarating installment of New York Times bestselling author Eric Jerome Dickey's bold, sexy, and deadly Gideon series.

Gideon, a professional assassin, is convinced that an old score with a former client from Detroit was settled a long time ago. But the lady from Detroit has never forgotten-or forgiven-Gideon, and with a crack team of hit-men, she's not letting him out of her sight. Now, Gideon's on the run again, embarking on a global chase that takes him from London to Nashville, and back to the Caribbean where those on both sides of this battle are dying for revenge.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

The third entry of bestselling Dickey's Gideon trilogy (after Waking with Enemies) offers intrigue, deception, murder and sex in exotic locales with a noir sensibility and keen attention to setting. While on vacation in Antigua, assassin Gideon is under the mistaken belief that an old beef with a client, known as Detroit, is over and done with. That's when he discovers teams of hired assassins are after him, seeking to punish him for bad business and, worse, for threatening Detroit's children. On the run, Gideon flees to the U.K. while secreting the only family he knows, the kid, as far from their enemies as possible. As killers pursue Gideon through London, Nashville, Atlanta and countless Caribbean beaches, Dickey's detailed location descriptions give his over-the-top violence and sex a vivid, realistic grounding. Murder, double-dealing, seduction, love and some unforeseen twists fill out the action, which hits only a few potholes. Though it could have been shorter, this is another highly entertaining page-turner from the veteran author. (Nov.)

From Booklist

The third in Dickey’s exciting Gideon trilogy (Sleeping with Strangers and Waking with Enemies, 2007) continues the homicidal adventures of Gideon, a professional hit man who got his name from the hollowed-out Bible a preacher was holding when he killed him. Gideon is an artist at his trade, never killing the same way twice. But all that seems to be over. Gideon has deluded himself into thinking that he has retired and found peace and that he can kick back in the Cayman Islands and enjoy the company of not one but two women. Then reality intrudes, and a stop in a public restroom turns into a bloodbath. As tired as he is of the killing game, it looks as though Gideon’s quest for a normal life hasn’t yet succeeded. With action scenes that take your breath away, characters to hate instead of cheer for, devilish details, and a speed-of-light plot, Dickey proves once again that he is a master of the genre. Librarians will want all three books in the trilogy. --Shelley Mosley

The third in a trilogy of action novels by Eric Jerome Dickey, "Dying to Revenge" is worth the journey from "Sleeping with Strangers" via "Waking with Enemies". Enjoyable on two levels - the captivating storyline, in-depth characters and exceptionally descriptive writing style - and my fascination with the fact that the story is set on the Caribbean island of Antigua and Barbuda and depicts it to a tee. It is a rare treat for a resident of Antigua to read a novel that is set on your island which can be enjoyed by a wide range of people and not just Antiguans. Dickey captures the people, landscape and landmarks of Antigua as if he had been living there since birth, and he also incorporates some of the less than flattering aspects - the rent-a dread culture, the brothels, the increasing crime, the limited infrastructure. It is no wonder EJD has been spotted extensively in Antigua over the past two years, obviously his intensive research has paid off.

The story tracks Gideon, a contract killer, as he seeks to remain alive following a contract being taken out on him by a former client. The violent episodes pursue him from the Cayman Islands, to London, to the United States and finally to Antigua. Dickey introduces Gideon's final pursuers, El Matador and El Matador's wife, along with Gideon's new ally, a colleague assassin named Hawks. Interestingly the story is told throughout the book alternately by Gideon, and then by one of his pursuers, El Matador's wife, who has a strange obsession with Manolo Blahnik designer shoes.

Dying for Revenge contrasts significantly with "Waking with Enemies" with a more intricate, followable and interesting storyline, less gratuitous sex scenes and a much more believable ending. I can see this on the big screen - I wonder who will play Gideon?

This is a must read. If you have read the other two books especially. If you haven't this book will make you go back and find out the beginnings of Gideon and where this all started. EJD delivers once again with a great plot, wonderful twists, and unpredicatable outcomes. Compared to the other two, the sexual content was toned down. Only to elevate the Gideon and his search: His search for his background and for the person who put out a contract for his head. From the opening the book until the end you are taken on a hair raising and on the edge story. A story that makes you want to take the weekend off. Hope for a rainy weekend and order in. Just so you have no reason to leave out and put the book down. No phone....no tv...just you, a glass of wine, and DFR....is all that is needed. There is no doubt that you will be thoroughly pleased with what Eric has put on paper. Leaving you sweating and feeling like why is this not on the movie screen yet. Gideon is right up there with any other action star. Needing to be put on the big screen and his story told. I wish I could fund this....guaranteed hit for movie screen. Thank you so much Eric for bringing us a story line feeled with more that your normal "Hot Sex on A Platter"....

Please take your 16 dollars and invest in this book. If you don't have the other two...also pick up. Convince someone that you have been nice and that you are deserving of this Christmas Gift.

Mrs. Robinson and Matthew were crazy. That was a crazy couple. They had problems that weren't resolved yet.
Lady of Detroit, politician wanted Gideon dead because Gideon wanted more money and he threatened her kids and friends. This lady was relentless, dangerous, and very determined. She played a big part of the book. She made it interesting. I never knew what would happen next between Gideon and Lady of Detriot. I couldn't put the book down.
I really miss Lola Mack and Mrs Jones in this book. I like the dialogue between Gideon, Lola and Mrs. Jones. They all are really sexy. Hawks was a sexy woman. She had a temper though. I really loved Gideon's and Hawk's bond. They were very special together. This made the book interesting.

I liked how Eric Jerome Dickey dives into the story. From the beginning, readers are on edge trying to put more of the pieces of Gideon together. By now, it is clear so much has been left out because the writer has much in store for this character. Gideon is described as a leading man, easily charismatic and skilled. He has been thrust into a life that he doesn't see a way out of- all because of the woman who is suppose to be his mother. Even without knowing all the details, her actions seem so barbaric. She gives him lies and manipulation, how can the man heal? It's all enough to break someone psychologically but Gideon's true character shines through. He wrestles with darkness, goes into a world of killers and grifters as he fights his way to the truth. All of this takes place on top of the many other twists threatening to overtake Gideon and his friends. Dickey creates wonderful detailed worlds that he loves to connect but it requires readers with an eye for detail. He leaves fan thirsty for more with EVERY masterpiece of the pen

I’ve read this series at least a million times since it originally was released. When I moved my originals were lost. I just had to purchase them again. THAT’S how good this series is.

This is probably my favorite book in the series because I felt like EJD found the perfect balance in this book. Just the right amount of sensuality, action, betrayal and revenge. At times I was lost...not because of the book but because I didn't have the foundation of the first two books "Sleeping with strangers" and "Walking with enemies". After reading those I loved how the story comes together peace by peace. I've always loved how he makes the characters separate entities that come together. With their own backgrounds and lives that have them end up at the same point crossing paths. The fight scenes were well written (especially the last one) and they pulled you in like you were watching a movie in HD. LOVED IT. Buy it and get the next installment Resurrecting Midnight.
