We've already tried out many of the remedies featured in the book and have been impressed with the results. From soothing teas to homemade salves, the remedies have proven to be effective and easy to prepare using herbs from our garden.
Overall, "The Practical Herbal Medicine Handbook" is a must-have for anyone interested in herbal medicine. Whether you're a seasoned herbalist or just starting out, this book is sure to become a valuable companion in your journey to holistic health and wellness. Highly recommended!
Overall Verdict: If you’re like me and fairly new to preparing herbal remedies, I highly recommend this book. If you’re already advanced at herbal remedies it may not be your best fit.

While the recipes are great, this handbook includes a wealth of important information as well. Curious about natural remedies, I enjoyed the many safety tips included in the guide. For example, a remedy that's safe for adults may be unsafe for children--but there are child-centric remedies as well. You'll learn how to grow and make your own remedies, but not without knowing what to watch out for first.
Obviously, this book makes the case for herbal medicine and holistic practices, but it's upfront and honest as well: these remedies aren't for everyone, and natural remedies won't fix everything. But for many common ailments, you can seek relief in your own backyard. I recommend this guide for anyone interested in holistic, natural medicine, as well as anyone who's interested in the history of primitive and ancient use of these herbs.
The Essentials section provided me with an overall history and description of an ancient practice with practical applications in today’s high-tech world. In the Apothecary section, the reader is introduced to an exhaustive list of over 44 herbs and their medicinal uses and benefits. The final section of the handbook lists common ailments and their accompanying herbal remedies.
As someone with a developing interest in herbal medicine, I was very excited to get my hands on this guide (even if I did get it for free for just sharing my opinions!) as it provided me with a thorough understanding of how to get started in the practice of herbal medicine. If you are interested in learning how to save yourself unnecessary trips to the doctor and needless copays and want to be more proactive about your health, this handbook is worth the read. I’m excited that I got to add this gem to my aromatherapy library!
