Dessert for Two takes well-loved desserts and scales them down to make only two servings!
Who doesn't love towering three-layer cakes with mounds of fluffy buttercream? Who can resist four dozen cookies fresh from the oven? Wouldn't you love to stick your spoon into a big bowl of banana pudding? But what about the leftovers? Dessert recipes typically serve eight to ten people. Finding the willpower to resist extra slices of cake can be difficult; the battle between leftover cookies and a healthy breakfast is over before it starts. Until now.Dessert for Two takes well-loved desserts and scales them down to make only two servings. Cakes are baked in small pans and ramekins. Pies are baked in small pie pans or muffin cups. Cookie recipes are scaled down to make 1 dozen or fewer. Your favorite bars―brownies, blondies, and marshmallow–rice cereal treats―are baked in a loaf pan, which easily serves two when cut across the middle.
Newly married couples and empty-nesters will be particularly enthralled with this miniature dessert guide. To everyone who lives alone: now you can have your own personal-sized cake and eat it, too.

The butter cookies were easy to make. Do let the bottoms get very brown, usually I would pull cookies early but to get the best taste you need to follow her directions until the cookies look like the picture. Excellent flavor. Since they use a yolk, save the whites in a baggie in the freezer and later on you can make other treats.
chocolate cookie brownies were fantastic. I loved the meringue feeling of the cookies with the crunchy crackling outside and chewy center. The chocolate was just this side of almost bitter with a strong taste, I liked it a lot, but you could sprinkle confectioner's sugar over them if you like a slightly sweeter taste.
The caramel cake was easy to make. I bought a Fat Daddio's 6 inch cake pan and it made the perfect little cake. The icing takes work, caramel icing does, big cake or little, but it was a great wow factor.
Who doesn't like chocolate peanut butter brownies. Using a loaf pan for the brownies is so smart as it makes excellent small batches. The chocolate brownie is fudgy and rich and the peanut butter swirl marbled through the batter is the perfect amount. Using the microwave makes the mixing fast.
This is a book I will use again and again, it is perfect and we have our dessert and eat it "two"
I first tried the German Chocolate Cake; I instinctively tweaked the leavening and flour in the recipe for the chocolate cake itself since I live at a high altitude; made note of those changes and the cake came out beautifully. I used Hershey's 'Special Dark' cocoa for the cocoa originally called for in the cake itself and the flavor was amazing. My husband, not ordinarily much of a cake eater even of his favorite (which happens to be German chocolate), eventually finished it entirely! That success has motivated me to think that maybe it really is possible to have homemade cake even at high altitudes. It's also really great to know that in making these desserts, we won't be stuck having to eventually throw them out because there's just too much. The cake lasted us three days, including the day I made and served it initially, just right for us.
I'll be trying other recipes throughout the summer; those lemon 'puddin' cakes' look like they'd be refreshing served chilled with whipped cream atop as a summer dessert and I look forward to trying them with lime and orange citrus as well. They're next on the 'must try' list. Those more fitted to fall and winter will just have to wait their turn, LOL.
These desserts are much better than the individual servings found in the grocery store and don't take hours to make, another point in its favor.
Thanks so much for a really good collection!
Dessert for Two is everything I wanted it to be. The portions (just 2!) are generous enough to make the recipes not feel like a "diet" book, while automatically building in portion control. And all of that is fabulous. But what was really important to me - are the recipes actually *good* - well no, they're not. They're AMAZING.
As a fellow Texan, I found Christina's conversational tone and directions familiar and easy to read. And it made my heart sing to see pralines, divinity, pecans galore, and use of the word y'all. So far my favorite recipe in the bunch is the Brownies for Two. I used a mixture of King Arthur Flour's black cocoa and Ghirardelli's unsweetened cocoa powder to please my dark chocolate loving husband's heart, and zing - did I!
I also love that the majority of recipes could easily be doubled or tripled to make "regular" sized desserts, for when you're having company. To me, that makes it two books in one, and quite a bargain at that.
The photos are gorgeous and plentiful. Not going to lie, this book could easily also double as a coffee table book, the photos are that good. I already sent a copy to my mama, since it's just her and my dad. Dad has diabetes, but is allowed a sweet treat now and then. My mom wasn't making them, simply because she couldn't deal with having the leftovers around to tempt him. She is SO excited about this concept. Buy this book - you're going to love it.
