The Long Way Home (Corps Security Book 7) Kindle Edition
Until now.
One look into her eyes and I’m completely disarmed. It’s only everything I thought I gave up. These walls I’ve built to protect and shroud me crumble more whenever she’s near. I’ve spent years waiting for a reason to breathe again, and now that I have her within reach, I’m not sure I can keep her. Is it possible to find both the missing piece of my soul and the remedy to my healing in one set of bright green eyes? EverythingI thought I would never have is staring back at me saying … yes, I can.

One standout is the grizzled old man, a vet from the Korean war, who whiles away his afternoons in the store, another is the mountain of a man with the striking green eyes who rarely speaks a word that couldn’t be distinguished from a grunt.
Threre’s also the three friends who occasionally accompany him, but it’s the one they call Drew that always leaves Olivia more than a little flustered.
Other than that he drinks coffee, there’s almost nothing that she actually “knows” about him, but after three years of almost daily, if limited, interactions with the tall, built, slightly older man, she’s fairly sure she’s guessed a few things.
Their barely existing relationship takes a pivotal turn though when, again almost wordlessly, the familiar stranger insists on walking Olivia and her irrepressible five-year-old niece to and from work each day.
There’s an awful lot I could spoil about this book, but I’m going to try not to. It’s labelled as book seven in Harper Sloan’s Corps Security series, and there are good reasons for that, but chronologically, it’s set over twenty years after book six, and after the already published books in the Hope Town series, the second-generation series that is spun off from the CS books.
Thematically though, it very much has the vibe of the earlier books in the series, or even of Kristen Ashley’s Rock Chick series, with strong women characters and the even stronger alpha males that drive them crazy and, in turn, make them swoon. There’s the smoldering sexual tension right from the start, and an ominous undercurrent of danger, and yet throughout there’s a sense of family that ties both groups of new characters together, and ultimately ties both groups to established characters.
As a long time reader of Harper’s books, this one was entirely unexpected and simultaneously was a long time coming, yet getting lost in the pages felt very much like coming home.
A sucker for well written child characters who effortlessly complicate burgeoning relationships I was spellbound right from the start long before I worked out how these new characters tied in with the larger world of Harper’s other works, and while I’d certainly recommend reading the other Corps Security books, and even the Hope Town books before this one, I imagine it would read well regardless.
I read Corps Security many years ago and I still remember Asher and everyone's pain at the death of Coop, I waited patiently to get the rest of his story and boy! Was that wait worth it. This poor man locked his feelings and life uptight for 20 years, it's a little sprite of a woman in danger and the adorable little niece that starts to melt the ice. He was tasked with keeping them safe and taking out the threat, never expecting anything else to come from this mission. I can honestly say this was everything I could hope for and way beyond, emotional in highs and lows, sweet and loving. It shows the raw pain and vulnerability of a man who sacrificed his family to keep them safe and the awakening vulnerability he faces as his heart becomes once more at risk. It also shows the trust, love and understanding from a woman who herself lost her closest family member but gained a niece. Riley is definitely the biggest star of this show, her trust and instant love, her boundless energy and an understanding way older than her 5 years, her take no prisoners attitude of I claim you, you are mine with her gentle giant made me smile. This is powerful in so many ways, there is suspense in various forms and some excitement. Also some surprises but most of all it has a happy ever after. The family be it blood or not stand together. Thankyou to Harper for managing to write this story, it was one most of her readers have wanted and needed, it was important to us as we invested as much in Zeke Cooper as we did the rest of the characters in Corps and Hope Town. I loved every freaking word of this book💖📖

Going back into the Corps Security world was like coming home again! This series was one of the first I read when it came out and I loved every word. To say that I loved Drew and Olivia would be an understatement! Their love was unconditional and held no BS just the way love should be. Then the little ray of sunshine Riley stole my heart ❤️ This story was so well written with just enough angst and scorching heat to make it incredible.
I am so thankful Harper is back blessing us with her beautiful words! I can’t wait for more ❤️❤️❤️
Really worth the reading!
The Corps Security series had been a favourite of mine over the years and this addition fits right in. Lots of heartache, drama, humour at times but most of all love. Perfect finale to the series.
