In looking to replace a deep conditioner that I discovered contained silicone, I purchased 3 different high quality deep conditioners to try, all of which had quality, clean ingredients. I read countless articles and reviews looking for something with great slip, thick creamy application, and intense moisture. My thick, course, low porosity 2b-c hair is finicky when it comes to deep conditioners. I found that all three products I purchased had great slip and creamy application, but this is the only one that actually seems to moisturize my hair. The first 1-2 times I used it, I was not happy with the results. However, ever since then, it has worked perfectly. So be sure to give it a few uses before deciding if it is for you. This is now my go to deep conditioner. I absolutely love it, and the fragrance is divine.

I have been looking for restoring products especially now because I bleached half of my hair to add magenta in. I only used this treatment once and it is insane how much more hydrated and healthy my hair feels already! After a light blow dry and all of my treatment products I actually felt comfortable letting my hair down without straightening it. So happy I found this and I will definitely be getting the full size soon!

I bought this product based on a large number of good reviews and I am very disappointed. I am giving this mask 3 stars for natural ingredients and a lasting pleasant smell. As far as effectiveness - I got better or similar results w other natural masks/ conditioners that cost significantly less.

My hair is chemically processed (Demi color) but not in a too bad of a shape. After using this mask (held for 15 min in a cap) I was unable to comb my hair without applying a detangler and the hair felt dry and wiry. It did smell nice as opposed to the majority of natural conditioners that have no lasting aroma but that where the positives end. I regret wasting so much money on a not particularly effective product.

Don’t Despair vs Soul Food

I have fine, blonde hair that I have highlighted twice a year for a natural sun kissed look and I live in an area with hard water. I have a water softener and filter and I am on a constant search for the best conditioner for my hair because it always feels tangly. I have tried so many different brands over the years recommended by stylists and on my own (Oribe, Living Proof, Amika Soul Food, Fakkai Mask, Olapkex and many, many more). I stumbled upon Fekkai’s masks on a trip in Alaska because my hair was extra, super dry there and fell in love with how amazing my hair felt. Then during the pandemic in 2020 they stopped making it then rereleased it and the ‘new formula’ is horrible! So I retried both Oribe masks and they were terribly drying. I tried Amika Soul Food and it smells great and is the best I have found so far. After reading reviews, I thought I’d try Don’t Dispair to see if it could make my hair happy like Fekkai used to but it’s a hard NOPE. If your hair is fine like mine, don’t waste your money. This stuff is thin and watery. I would not even classify it as a mask. It is weak and made my hair very, very dry and stiff. I tried leaving it on for 10 minutes and also overnight plus the regular use , like a conditioner since I spent the money I was hoping it would work for something but it’s going to my boys or the trash. The Olaplex 5 is much more of a mask than this stuff. For reference, I currently use Olaplex shampoo(4), Condtioner (5) and Olaplex 3 and I alternate in Amika Soul Food and Olaplex 5 as my conditioner. I also use Fanola No Yellow once a week mixed with Olaplex 3 to keep out any gold or brassy tones. I hope this review saves someone who has hair like mine from spending money on this. Try Soul Food. It’s thick and smells nice and will make your hair feel much softer than Don’t Despair. Don’t Despair is like using a drug store brand so save your money. Look elsewhere.

I have very thin, fine hair that’s wavy/loose curls and had never used any products to take care of it so it was very frizzy and damaged even though I never use heat or dye. It would get very dry and I had split ends right up to my root, so I used this to try to help repair some of that and help with the dryness. The fragrance isn’t too strong and doesn’t linger or leave a strong smell in my hair which I like because I’m a bit sensitive to strong fragrances, and it made my hair so soft and genuinely has reduced the frizz so much, and hopefully over time it will help repair the split ends a bit too!
