From Book 1: After the death of their father, 15-year-old Mairi and her younger brother Jamie are forced to spend the summer with their estranged grandfather in the rural mountains of Northern California. Expecting to be miserable, Mairi is instead drawn into a world of magic straight out of the Celtic fairy tales from her childhood. Facing faerie curses and vengeful druids, a trip back in time to ancient Scotland threatens to become even more dangerous than anticipated when their cousin, Danny unexpectedly shows up with his own agenda, and time is running out to reverse the curse a faerie has put on their family. Life wasn't ever going to be the same without her father, but Mairi never imagined she was actually part of a magical legacy.

Combining Scotland's history and Celtic fairy tales passed down by the clans on Skye with modern day teens in the United States, this contemporary fantasy fiction for the YA audience encourages a new look at ancient lore, connecting Scottish-Americans to their ancestral roots in an accessible storyline.

Follow Mairi as she learns who she is and how her choices impact the world around her in this first book in the series, Celtic Magic.

Inspired by books both fiction and educational written by authors such as Jane Yolen and Elen Sentier, this series weaves fantasy and contemporary in an engaging manner.

Mairi learns there is a darker side to the Fae Folk and humans alike. When Mairi enters the Faerie Realm along with her cousin Anne, her brother Jamie, and a mysterious spirit cat named KA, in search of the humans kept captive by the faeries, they encounter changelings, giants, and bloodthirsty fae while battling accusations of "witch" and are shadowed by the druid Ewan MacDonald seeking revenge. Autumn is a darker time for everyone, and Mairi has only one agenda; to prove her dad never died. This is the second book in the Celtic Magic series. The first book, The Trinity Knot, relays the story of how Mairi came to be magical after the death of her dad. Weaving Celtic Fairy Tales with the Scotland of centuries ago and the California of modern day, these two books provide an insight into the Celtic ancestry many Americans share with the United Kingdom.

Kidnapped by the Cailleach Bheur, Celtic Goddess of Winter, Mairi is without the aid of her friends as the earth sinks into a darkness brought on by the materialism of humans. Mairi must search deep within herself to find out if she has the power to help save mankind from the angry Dark Faeries as much as from the greed of humans, as she wonders if it might be better to set aside her Druidic ancestry and live in blissful oblivion like all the "normal" people. This is the third book in the Celtic Magic four book series, which centers on 15-year-old, Mairi, who was a typical modern teen growing up surfing in San Diego and camping in Baja until her dad died, turning her life upside down. In the first book, The Trinity Knot, she and her younger brother are sent to live in the rural mountains of Northern California with their maternal grandfather they’ve barely met because their mother can’t handle her grief. A forbidden necklace leads them to discover they are from a long line of druids and that the Celtic fairy tales told in their childhood are actually their family heritage. This leads them on an adventure that includes time travel, battling druids, and journeying through the Faerie Realm to meet the Light Faeries. In the second book, The Witch’s Knot, Mairi befriends a spirit cat, Ka, and discovers that witches are also real. In an effort to prove that her dad did not die, but was actually a changeling, she follows Ka back into the Faerie Realm and discovers that Dark Faeries are now in charge, and are much more dangerous than their counterpart. With a splash of history and authentic Celtic tales told for hundreds of years to generation after generation, this series straddles both modern and ancient times. This coming of age novel is perfect for anyone curious about his or her own Celtic connections. While this is a YA novel with teen characters, it safely appeals to ages 9-99 with family friendly content. This is H. R. Conklin’s third book. She grew up in the rural mountains of Northern California where her mother gardened and her father played the bagpipes, as well as spending long hours in the theater where her parents were a dancer and an actor, which undoubtedly led to her overactive imagination and love for nature. She currently lives in San Diego with her husband, two children and three dogs. She formerly taught kindergarten at a public Waldorf charter school in which she told many fairy tales to the children, and made up stories in her spare time. Connect with H. R. The Celtic Magic series is a unique tale connecting modern day California to the Scotland of centuries ago. Join Mairi during a life-changing year in this eco-heroine's journey, following the Celtic wheel of pagan holidays through the seasons. Mairi has been shown the future and knows humans must change their ways. Continuing on their path of disconnect with Nature will cause the destruction of human life. Tasked by the Seelie Fae to save the human world, Mairi and friends seek out ancient wisdom in the stories of old. The Queen of the Unseelie Fae decides humans have to prove themselves worthy of the Earthly Realm, or die trying. Dark magic makes Mairi push harder to find the answers she needs, but the Undersea Faerie Queen is weighing in and Mairi is uncertain whose side she is on. When young people representing cultures from all of the continents share their knowledge, Mairi finally feels the seeds of hope. Deadly faerie magic is working against humanity, but humans and faeries are working together like never before. As humans begin seeing the earth through ancient views, they are waking up to their dormant powers. Now Mairi must put all the pieces together before time runs out for human life on Earth, and for once she's starting to feel worthy of the task. Join Mairi and friends in this exciting conclusion to the Celtic Magic series.

H.R.Conklin’s Celtic Magic series is a must-read for fantasy lovers as well as those who care about the environment. This quartet of books brilliantly blends Celtic mythology with today’s issues within a classic coming-of-age story. Lyrical writing and the weaving of several exciting narrative threads keep the reader glued. While each of the four books can stand alone, the series is best read in order to follow the development of the protagonist who experiences all the angst any teen will understand. Expect suspense, plot twists, touching moments, an occasional surprise, and a message of hope. The series is both thought-provoking and entertaining.

I love these books. I hope someday they make them into a movie, a Scottish Harry Potter type movie, with faeries, druids, witches, spells, curses, bagpipes, time travel, charms, healing herbs, changelings, Celtic magic and so much more!
