The most important pros include:
They are completely compatible in Windows 7 & 8.
Not only are they compatible, but no configuration is even required. This includes the sleep, volume, web, and special function (Fn) buttons. I especially enjoy the new Windows 8 function button options painted on the Fn keys.
Comfortable feel.
All the keys are properly placed exactly where I expect them to be without having to hunt the keyboard. The keys also have very little travel to depress them. This is very convenient if you are a skilled typist. The keys also have a very nice tactile feedback that really let's you know you've hit the key.
Very long battery life.
While I have had to replace the batteries a few times a year, I change the batteries on these keyboards about once every couple years. There is also a tiny low battery indicator on the keyboard which is helpful.
Very durable.
Even the earliest one of these that I bought hasn't lost any of the paint off any of the keys after three years of use. They have taken a lot of use and abuse and still work like new.
Shallow sealed key design.
These keyboards are very easy to clean. Dirt doesn't really have a place to nest or get under the keys like on many other keyboards I've used.
Link-5.
I can use a single dongle in one USB port and it controls the mouse(mice) and keyboard(s). It controls up to five devices which is great if you have limited USB ports. This is becoming standard, but I'll still give it a spot on the pro list.
Sharp look and slim design.
It just looks good sitting on any desk. It's also very slim so it's easy to manipulate. I have an HP TouchSmart PC, and it easily slides under it if I need extra desk space. I'm not a fan of bulky design, ergonomics, or wrist rests. Just give me a nice keyboard.
The cons include:
F, J, and 5 button indicators.
This is the only real con I can find with this keyboard. The little F, J, and 5 indicator bump on the keys that you need for proper finger placement are there, but they could be a little more pronounced. The last HP keyboard I owned was slightly more pronounced which made the keys easy to find. I'm getting used to it, but I find I have to rub around the keys a little to confirm I have the right keys. If you're a hunt-and-pecker, it won't matter, but if you're a touch typist, it will take some getting used to.
In closing:
I highly recommend this keyboard to anyone that wants an excellent, comfortable, and durable keyboard. It will last for years and you won't be disappointed. Enjoy!
Pros:
1. The streamlined style. This keyboard feels light, is light, is modern and attractive and fits the budget of a college student. A+
2. The keys. They have just the right amount of sound and click to them (this is a personal preference for many people). The keys have a decently loud click that feels crisp and rewarding. It makes typing my papers almost enjoyable.
3. The materials used in constructing it. This keyboard has a metal body. That's right, a metal body. It's lightweight, slim, and cool to the touch, making typing that much easier. Less focusing on the keyboard and more on creating the perfect sentence.
4. Battery life. It's been almost a year since I got this keyboard and it hasn't died/slowed down the slightest bit yet. So far it's chugging along just fine.
Cons:
1. The receiver. This is a con because it takes up space on my computer with regards to usb ports. I only have two usb ports on my laptop, both of which are occupied by the mouse receiver and the keyboard receiver. Yes, I could get a usb hub, but this is inconvenient for the average user as it requires an additional purchase and more space. Logitech has solved this problem by creating a universal receiver that all of their products can connect to (i.e. a keyboard and a mouse connect via the same receiver). I recognize that this keyboard is HP branded and interfacing with Logitech's products is probably never going to happen, but one can hope.
Side note: I thoroughly researched Logitech's keyboards and didn't like any of them! My mom had purchased this keyboard off of amazon and I immediately fell in love with it when I came home (I tried to steal it too but she wouldn't have that) which is why I decided to sacrifice my last usb port in favor of purchasing this keyboard.
2. I really don't have any other cons.
Bottom Line: This keyboard is cost effective (I'm a college student on a serious budget, like a *ramen noodles every night budget* (commercial reference :)) and works exceedingly well for the price. It feels good to type on and solid enough to last my college experience.
Should you buy it? It depends on your personal preference for keyboards. If you like a medium-loud, crisp click when you hit the key, this keyboard is definitely for you. If you're looking for a softer, quieter click, I'd suggest you keep shopping.
Top reviews from other countries
Keypressing feels like a dream, very short travel, smooth and quiet and requires little effort. Also has the stands at the back to raise it slightly. Keys seem really high quality, unlike say the Logitech K800 which look/feel weird and plasticky.
Well worth the extra over the KM632 if you don't mind the initial setup of pressing every key to find where the @ or £ is.
UPDATE:
After a spell of random disconnections I've thrown it out and bought a Logitech
