"Wind tugged his hair as he stood on the open-air platform between the railcars. The train moved at only thirty miles an hour, but the railroad bed was covered with stones, and it would be a hard landing. Would this be the end? The weeks and months ahead were going to be hard, but it was time to act."Count Dimitri Sokolov witnessed a horrific event that results in him being sent to Siberia Natalia Blackstone becomes concerned when she can't get in touch with the man who was her contact on the construction of the railroad. And so begins the transcontinental story that involves the railroad, banking, music and the highest in Russian command.I love well-written Christian historical fiction books that allow the reader to be transported both in place and time. This book is partially set in Russia, New York City and even San Francisco. Parts of the book are connected to real life events - The Trans-Siberian Railroad and some of the problems that happened during construction. The end notes provide the facts along with identifying the characters that once actually walked the earth. This book is definitely connected to the Blackstone Legacy Book 1, Carved in Stone. Reading that book first is highly recommended. The characters are authentic and enjoyable.I did receive an advanced copy of this book through NetGalley. But because I listened to the first book in the series, I decided to purchase the second one because I really enjoyed the narration. Pillar Witherspoon brings the characters to life. This series has opened up my mind to new experiences. I can't wait to listen to book three.

Favorite part: The characters first meet via telegram. Natalia giving Dimitri a manicure.

Favorite character: Dimitri. Strong alpha, but with a tender spirit that is driven by integrity and a calling from God for justice.

What did I learn?: Sometimes there aren’t perfect solutions to hardship, but love entrusted to a good God is a beautiful thing.

Will I read this author again?: This is my favorite book I’ve read of Elizabeth Camden so far!

This is book 2 in the series. I need to go
back and read book 1. I can’t wait for the 3rd!

Characters:
Count Dimitri Solokov - Russian
Natalia Blackstone - American daughter of
a Russian ballerina.

Voice: Third person (my preference)

Setting or World: 1900 Russia & New York City

The End: Satisfying (I wish it had been drawn out a bit more!)

Recommended for: Readers that enjoy a strong male lead, but not at the expense of an independent female. Those that have interest in Russian politics at the turn of the century.

I've come to trust that I will thoroughly enjoy any book written by this author. The history is always extremely well researched, and the characters are oh, so, human, and never two dimensional. This is yet another example of those two points.
I always learn things I didn't know when I read her books, and I definitely had a knowledge gap about the Boxer Rebellion and the years before the Russian revolution, not to mention the Trans-Siberian Railroad. Needless to say, I fell down many wikipedia rabbit holes, but I did enjoy learning about it all.
But my favorite thing about her books is the multi-faceted characters, who are all different from one another. It doesn't feel like the same character in a different situation. I enjoy getting to live in their skin, so to speak, and learning their viewpoints and motivations, and the decisions that they must make. The Christian element was a little quieter in this story than I've come to expect, but it was still part of the way the characters made decisions, and I very much enjoy reading stories where the characters are shaped by these considerations.

After finishing the last pages of [book:Carved in Stone|57042909], I didn't wait many moments before diving into Written in the Wind. I had meant to read these books a while ago, but my to do lists got away from me and it was when I downloaded [book:Hearts of Steel|61137164] for review that I realized I had been lacking. I'm astonished that I read the book in two days, but I just couldn't put it down. While not quite five stars for review, it is pretty darn close and now I'm making a list of all the backlist of Elizabeth Camden that I may have to go and read...

Much in the way that the characters in the first book were unique, Natalia and her Russian Count are not any personalities that I have come across on the page before. If I had not started to understand a little more about history and the power of propaganda, I may have missed some details, but it was a perfect time for me to have a better understanding and surprise of the power that it held even then. While this book doesn't quite get into it, you can feel the bubbling under the surface of turmoil in Russian politics. This book has a bit of action and mystery and I really enjoyed every minute of it.

Thanks to Netgalley and Bethany House Publishers for provided a copy for review. I'm delighted to have bought a copy to have added to my collection for future reading. I'm so sorry that I didn't read it sooner, as I didn't know what I was missing. I've already started in the third novel.

What a great book! Well written and well researched, it gives a glimpse of a tumultuous period in both the history of the U.S. and of Russia, and the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway, still the longest railway in the world. It was a time of immense wealth and equally immense poverty. The characters were wonderfully developed. I've always had a soft spot for quirky characters, and Dimitri won my heart at once. Initially the clueless Russian aristocrat, he suffers greatly, and grows through the process. Natalia, the daughter of one of the wealthiest families in the U.S. is blessed with a keen intellect for business which is not welcomed in that world. Both lose much, but eventually find peace with each other, and make the most of the opportunities God presents to them. It was a wonderful read, and one I am sure to enjoy again, as I look forward to the next book in the series.

I thoroughly enjoyed this and look forward to it continuing. I read the first book a few years ago. It was great how the characters lives in the previous book came back to remembrance. Great author. Couldn’t put it down!

I have read most of Elizabeth Camden's books, and I must say this is one of the best! I really liked Dimitri and Natalia, and the way their relationship developed. I can't wait to read the next book in this series!

The story continues. And what a story it is. Full of life changes, romance, family, faith, and history. I look forward to book 3. I just wish the wait wasn't so long......

Loved the historical accuracy and intriguing characters. This author writes with such detail I can hear the wind moan through the trees and smell the sweet fragrance of Lilacs. From Russia to America and back again I travelled the road with this lovely couple cheering them on. A very satisfying well-written read.

As usual the book was well written and technical detailing was impressive. However I didn’t feel any empathy with the characters. They were different from anything usual but out of my experience.

I have read all of Elizabeth Camden's books, and this one is no exception, it is captivating.
It took me only 4 days to finish.
Russia's historical events are truly captured here, as well as the New York 1900 scene.
