About the Author

Emily Hanako Momohara is an artist and academic in photography and video arts. Her mixed-race background and belief in education leads her to a variety of commercial and fine art projects about multiculturalism. Susana Madinabeitia Manso is a Spanish teacher and translator. She received her Masters of Arts at West Virginia University and now teaches Spanish at Miami University.

    Momohara grew up near Seattle, Washington and earned her BFA in Photography and her BA in Art History from the University of Washington. She went on to receive her MFA in Expanded Media from the University of Kansas. She is Associate Professor of Art at the Art Academy of Cincinnati where she heads the photography major.

    Momohara has exhibited nationally, most notably at the Japanese American National Museum in a two-person Show titled Sugar Islands. She has been a visiting artist at several residency programs including the Center for Photography at Woodstock, Headlands Center for the Arts, Fine Arts Work Center and Red Gate Gallery Beijing. She received a 2011 Ohio Arts Council Excellence Grant. In 2015, her work was included in the Chongqing Photography and Video Biennial.

    Susana Madinabeitia Manso from Logroño, La Rioja, is a Spanish teacher, writer and translator. She received her BA in Translation and Interpreting at University of Valladolid, her MA in Second Language Learning at West Virginia University and her MA in Educational Psychology at Miami University. Now she teaches Spanish at University of Navarra.

Autumn/En Otoño follows a pattern on every page. The repetition is comforting and appealing to young children. The book covers common Autumn experiences and makes them all sound fun for children. I like that it started with leaves and encouraged children to play in them. Bi-lingual Spanish books are very helpful in many preschool classes in our area with over fifty percent of the children having Spanish as their first language. The bright colored pictures are appealing too.
