If all you want is to pick up a guitar and start playing and shredding this will accomplish that goal. It's a V guitar, You're here looking for a V guitar. This is a good V guitar for its price.
The Floyd Rose works fine, the people complaining about it seem to forget that Floyd Rose lost its licensing years ago. There's no difference anymore between a Floyd Rose licensed and an original Floyd Rose in terms of manufacturing and development. To me it seems that the worry of switching out the Floyd Rose comes from people who are looking for a very specific sound that if you don't know what you're looking for you don't have to worry about it, and if you let the strings settle properly you're going to be fine.
It has a neck dive just like any other odd-shaped guitar. Google some ways to add weight to it and you're going to be fine. It's comfortable for what it is and I was able to pick up, tune, and shred for hours out of the box.
10/10 would recommend.
I've also heard some say they had to go through all kinds of setup. Intonation was off, truss bar adjustments, this that and blah blah. I had none of that. Intonation was JUST about spot on. EXTREMELY minor adjustment. Action was low, no fret buzz or need to file anything. THE ONLY THING, was a kind of waxy coating on the fretboard and strings that made it a bit "sticky". Quick wipe with a damp cloth and mild soap, then a quick squirt of WD-40 on a paper towel for a quick wipe (didn't have my gun grease handy and the strings were still on), very playable at that point with NO major hassles.
This came with a Floyd Rose tremelo bridge, NOT a fan. My Charvel Model 6 (1980-81) had a Kahler, which I prefer. I bought a Yamaha back in the 90's that had a Floyd knock off. It was so bad I gave the guitar away because nobody would buy it, even BARELY used and for $100, $350 down the drain. At least the PLACEMENT of this Floyd is such that it DOES NOT "wahwah" every time you strum the strings like the Yamaha did (the Yamaha bridge was too close to the neck, forcing you to palm rest ON TOP of the Floyd, moveable bridge. Without the benefit of a Kahler solid surround mount, it caused an inadvertant "WAHWAH" effect every time you strum). So, it's still a Floyd. Meaning complicated string changes and clipping string ends. The tool kit came with 3 different sized hex keys for everything Floyd (why can't Floyd use the same sized hex bolts for the end user bits?) BUT it did NOT come with a WIRE CUTTER to clip the string ends. Well STRINGS are made "THIS" way, let's just MESS PEOPLE UP and make them CUT the strings! Then TUNE, and TUNE, and TUNE AGAIN. Like buying a new car, and you have to cut the sparkplug wires to fit before you can drive it off the lot. Then adjust the timing every time you get gas! And according to some, "make sure you use the same brand, or you'll have to adjust, use the same gauge or you'll have to adjust (ok that I get, TO A POINT, but still) use the same metal structure or you'll have to adjust". WHY THE HELL DID ANYONE!!! EVER!!! LIKE THIS BRIDGE!!!??
(NO I have NOT changed strings on this yet, as I said, I've only played it for 5 minutes. These "Floyd" references are from the ONE time I changed strings on my Yamaha before I gave it away, to all my friends that suffered with a Floyd way back when, and took 30 minutes to change strings and had to carry a toolbox. And a couple online tutorials that seemed ALL TOO HAPPY to do WAY TOO MUCH WORK to change some darn strings!!! WITH A SMILE!!)
Now, the neck itself, kinda "sticky" is all I can say, as I mentioned above. Doesn't slide well on the fretboard OR the back of the neck. NO BIGGIE there in my opinion, I can easily buff it and shine it up to "slickify" front, and back especially. I used to buff my Charvel rosewood fretboard with a dremel buffer and gun grease, literally. NOT the sex lubricant, but the actual grease used for cleaning guns, honestly IT WORKS GREAT!!! It also prolongs string life by keeping body oils and contaminants OFF the fretboard and strings.
Finally, the pickups. Don't get me wrong, I realize this is a JS Series in the $350 range, and the dual humbuckers LOOK every part of their X or American series Seymour Duncan counterparts. But OH they certainly ARE NOT. They're $30 knock offs at best. This isn't necessarily a BAD THING! Here's why... You can EASILY replace the pickups with the same Seymours or EMG81s that Dave Mustaine or Kerry King use for about or under $200. Spend a little time with a buffer wheel to polish the neck and make it slippy slidy front and back, and you've suddenly got yourself a $3500 look-a-like that sounds and plays pretty damn good for under $600 all-in.
And, if you're a true Kahler fan you can pick up a used Kahler 2300 for $200-$300. I'M certainly not there yet, but it's definitely NOT OUT down the NEAR road. :) Let me change the strings on this Floyd a few times first, I honestly don't see that Floyd lasting long.
For the price, even though it's "CRAFTED IN CHINA".... I'd buy it again.
Great looking guitar, buildable platform to get it how you want it without the over-the-top price of an "X" or "American". Also something relatively inexpensive to keep your first timer kid interested because it looks cool. :D
