I was born in Czechoslovakia, left with my parents when I was a small child. I discovered Kristyna’s website when I wanted to make kolace for my mom’s 86th birthday. Kristyna’s detailed instructions helped me make them and yaay, Mom liked them :). That led me to Kristyna’s cookbook which at that time was sold out. I was very happy when I learned the book was back in print and immediately pre-ordered it. The great thing about this Czech cookbook is that Kristyna gives you American measurements, good advice, but most importantly, American ingredients. It’s hard to cook something when you don’t know where and how to get the products needed. I am enjoying cooking the dishes on which I grew up, trying them out on my husband, and sharing them with my mom who cooked “old school” by memory - a little bit of this, a bit more of that. I can’t remember a recipe to save my life and I need exact measurements. I love this cookbook. You can tell it was written with love by the photographs, the personal stories, and especially by the details added to each recipe to help the cook achieve success. This is an Amazing Czech Cookbook!!! I have been looking for a few years now for Czech/ Slovak recipes because my husband is from Czechoslovakia and he moved to the USA and married me im an American. I am part Czech and have Czech roots in my family. I am so happy to have found this cookbook and support Czech cookbook on YouTube and support Kristynas channel and cookbook. I am a native born Czech. Moved to the USA at 21 years old. I have been cooking certain recipes from memory, and found some recipes online. But sometimes it's so hard to figure out ingredient substitutes here in states. This cookbook takes all the guesswork out of my measuring - Celsius to Fahrenheit, grams to oz, ingredients etc.

Today just finished baking Linecké Cukroví (Lindzen Christmas Cookies) based on the recipe in this book and they turned out fantastic!

Also, I make the Tvaroh (Farmer's Cheese) all the time. The recipe is so simple, and the tvaroh tastes just like Czech tvaroh.

My American husband loves Czech food, and says that when I cook from this book it tastes just like when he has food in Czech.

You will certainly not regret purchasing this cookbook. Not only did the author, Kristýna Koutná, put an incredible amount of attention and detail into the recipes of her Czech cookbook she included beautiful photos, and also put a great deal of heart into the book in the form of personal stories of Czech traditions that any Czech expats will remember with fondness or as an educational read for those not familiar with them. My wife, a Czech born woman can attest to how hard it is to recreate favourite Czech recipes outside of the Czech republic due to not all ingredients being available locally. This cookbook addresses that issue with substitution suggestions for ingredients sourced locally around the world with many tested recipes. With the vast majority of traditional Czech meals and baked goods covered by this book along with the included stories of Czech traditions this book is sure to become a family heirloom to be passed down. It is such a great book, that we also purchased two additional copies to pass on to our children who have grown up enjoying Czech cooking here in Canada and wanted to provide them with the means to recreate those meals when they move on into adulthood. Thanks so much to Kristyna for all the hard work she put into creating this fabulous book.

It is helpful also to see some of the online videos. Many recipes are handed down through the author's family, and it was quite touching to see a photo of a handwritten family recipe book. Having lived in the Czech Republic for five years, I came to love the cuisine and culture., so this book is a treasure to me. There is a Christmas cookie section, which I will use for my cooking this Christmas. (I cook with a friend and we share them around.)
