He's back! The itinerant wizard with the sesquipedalian vocabulary is back in another anthology of short stories. Accompanied by his traveling companion Mirrabelle, Otheldo encounters mermaids, a violent demon from another dimension, and an evil wizard who has enslaved an entire tribe of fiendishly powerful ape-men. The good news is that he's employed.

In a life that some might describe as colorful, I have been an auto mechanic, a ballroom dance instructor, a new car salesman, and a computer programmer. I've traveled extensively in the United States East of the Mississippi, and lived in Colorado and South Dakota. These days I can be found reinventing myself (yet again) as a writer of fiction - mostly fantasy and detective novels. Later on I hope to write some horror fiction.

I read the first book years ago and though I searched, there was no more in the series for many years and I had been very disappointed! But then I found out you had written the 2nd book
and I loved it from beginning to end!! Humor, adventure and a hero wizard or magus!
Please keep this series going!! And please try not to wait another 10+ years.... Thank you again! Loved and enjoyed your writing..

"Magic Employed" is a collection of stories chronicling the adventures of peripatetic magus Otheldo and his companion Mirrabelle, a talented dancer with a specialty in self-defense. The stories are highly entertaining and written with tongue slightly in cheek, although they contain touches of drama and pathos as well. The author does a nice job of avoiding the cliches which often infest the fantasy genre, and the characters don't always act as you might predict.

Otheldo is not a fake but a talented magus, with enough of an understanding of human nature to know when magic isn't necessary. He deals with both royalty and the lower classes - he dislikes nobility for the most part, but they pay better. The relationship between Otheldo and Mirrabelle is not entirely clarified (they travel and work together but take separate rooms when they stay at inns) but clearly they trust one another and are good friends. Otheldo has a very large vocabulary and a weakness for indulging it, a nice running gag. Another is "Let's dispense with the formalities" when striking a bargain - you'll know why when you read the stories. There's lots of adventure to be had and I finished the stories in an afternoon as I just could not stop reading them. Definitely recommended.

This book of shirt stories is as refreshing as an ice cold watermelon on a 100 degree day. It is a very charming way to eliminate your worries and woes for a few hours. It is an easy read. I am looking forward to reading all of this author's writings (Past and future). Opps. SHORT stories.
