Within The Shading Journal Volume 1 you will be greeted with HUNDREDS upon HUNDREDS of basic shading exercises that you can utilize to develop your technical abilities, application and technique further.
The Shading Journal Volume 1 will focus on getting comfortable with various shading motions, directions, postures, techniques & more!
The idea for Volume 1 is to help us establish our fundamentals & to help us get familiar with shading basics. Within The Shading Journal Volume 1 we can use a ballpoint pen cartridge that will get us familiar with stipple shading.
Once we have picked up on shading more we can take our learnings over to Volume 2 & 3 where we can fine tune and develop further.
When we are practicing shading within The Shading Journals V1-V3 we can use a pencil, ballpoint pen, or a ballpoint pen cartridge. Using a ballpoint pen cartridge will allow us to get more familiar with the stipple process but the application and rule of thumb we learn using a ballpoint cartridge can translate on over to any size needle we use when we step into fake skin.
When practicing within The Shading Journal workbook series I would recommend to try to keep a similar approach that we think we would take when tattooing. For example once the workbook is placed down, instead of us moving the book around we move and adjust ourselves as if we are tattooing a real client. When we combine a tattoo machine and a ballpoint cartridge with this sort of logic we can begin to make the absolute most out of these developmental workbook series.
I also recommend that we place a sheet or 2 of scratch blank paper to prevent us from damaging the pages behind the exercises we are working on.
