About the author
Allie Reynolds' debut thriller SHIVER is about a small group of former snowboarder friends at an isolated mountaintop reunion, high in the French Alps. SHIVER has sold in 24 territories to date and will be translated into 23 languages. The TV option has sold to Firebird Pictures.
Her second thriller THE BAY (UK, ANZ) / THE SWELL (USA) is set on a remote Australian beach and will be published in June 2022.
Born and raised in Lincoln, England, Allie moved to Gold Coast, Australia in 2004. She lives near the beach with her two young boys.
Many years ago she competed at snowboard halfpipe. She spent five winters in the mountains of France, Switzerland, Austria and Canada. These days she sticks to surfing - water doesn't hurt as much as ice when you fall on it.
Her first ever job was a Saturday job in a bookstore, at age 14. She taught English for many years and became a full-time writer in 2018.

Sky came across as a bully, rather than a mentor but as the truth out's we got a better understanding of why she needs to control/lead.
I started to warm to Clemete as his conscience got the better of him and he warned Kenna of the things she would need to face and dangers of the Bay.
I'd worked out who the killer was halfway into the book, though I did doubt myself several times as the story slowly unravelled.
It was slow going at times, a bit repetitive, and for someone who knows nothing about surfing the language was new and confusing, has was the need to possess a beach and its surf, which was equally baffling.
There is an element of resemblance to Lord of The Flies about this book.
The last few pages help bind everything together and confirm my suspicions of who the killer was, it also tied up a few loose ends but not completely , leaving the reader with something to mull over and make their own mind up about.
Kenna flew halfway around the world to Sydney to catch her friend before her wedding. When Kenna showed up, Mikki and her fiance Jack were about to embark on another surfing trip before their wedding, and she was asked to join them. Soon, they were in Sorrow Bay and Kenna finally met their tight-knit ‘family’ of surfers. They were completely isolated, and there was no mobile reception.
This was such a fast read. The cast of characters was very interesting; I kept trying to guess why everyone was there and what secrets they had. Most of the twists came as a complete surprise to me, even though I actually managed to guess the main twist quite early.
It was a good, enjoyable one!
The Bay is a small fictional isolated beach area in a National Park near Sydney. A group of friends make a pact together, no outsiders and you must never leave. So what happens when outsider Kenna comes and tries to uncover the bay's secrets?
I love the “locked room” vibe to the book, being isolated on the beach sounds peaceful but not when there is a chance you are camping with a killer.
This book was highly addictive and I finished it in a day. I love the twists and the not knowing who to trust in the book because I felt all the characters portrayed their hidden identities well.
I highly recommend reading this book. If you loved Shiver you are bound to love The Bay just as much.

I loved how it was set in Australia at the beach and it had the mixture of overseas and Australian characters.
I loved how each character brought a different element to the story with their different personalities. I couldnt work out who the toxic person was , my mind changed with every chapter.
I loved your writing style . The story just kept flowing.
The timeline flips back to previous incidents which relate to why the characters are like they are now.
Short chapters are my pick and this certainly had them. It was a captivating book that I will always recommend and wont stop talking about.
Whilst the novel is told in first person mainly through Kenna, other surfers at the bay also speak through chapters of their own. The novel also features chapters which dip back in time, giving the reader a slow burn into Kenna's past. Allie's writing reads effortlessly and it was easy to get caught up in the plot.
I was excited for "The Bay" after "Shiver" and after "The Bay" I am looking forward to future books by Allie Reynolds.
Kenna arrives in Australia to save her best friend Mikki from making a terrible mistake and marrying Jack, a man Kenna believes, Mikki barely knows. But there is so much that Kenna doesn’t know. She joins Mikki, Jack and the rest of their tight knit group on a surfing trip to Sorrow Bay. Off the grid in this isolated stretch of coastline, Kenna tries to understand the hold that the group have over Mikki and how she can break it. Can Kenna get through to Mikki without getting sucked into their world of extremes, where adrenaline is the only drug they need?
Secrets run deep in the Bay and not everything is as it seems. The group will go to any lengths to keep the Bay to themselves. Strangers are not welcome and no-one ever leaves!
Make time to read The Bay, because you won’t want to put it down!

Kenna decides to visit her friend Mikki in Australia as she is worried about her but it soon becomes clear things are a lot worse for Mikka than she could have ever imagined.
I loved Shiver and couldn't wait to pick this one up and I have to say it did not disappoint at all. I was hooked from the start. All the way through I was back and forth with who couldn't be trusted. The Twists just kept coming !! Loved short chapters. Would highly recommend this gripping Thriller.
The Bay kept me gripped with effortless writing, an evocative setting, good pacing and plenty of suspense. I felt immersed in the surfing lifestyle and the wildness of living at a beach. It reminded me of a sort of budget version of Alex Garland’s The Beach; a paradise setting marbled with an ominous desire to protect it at all costs. The Bay is a very different sort of book and never pretends to be something it’s not, but it was impossible to ignore the comparison.
The reason for the three star rating is because The Bay follows much the same format as Shiver, so I consequently guessed the ending very early on. I love a good locked room mystery but what made Shiver such a great one actually hindered The Bay because the author used the same tactics again.
I also thought there were a few too many deaths to be believable. People pop their clogs left right and centre, and it crosses the line into absurd. Also some of the motivations were questionable.
I’ll definitely read whatever Allie Reynolds publishes next as I like her writing style and stories focussing on different sports, but she’s going to have to change it up a bit to keep things fresh.
And after finishing reading I can say that the setting Sorrow Bay certainly lived up to its name as a lot has happened there over the last few years. The surprise arrival of Kenna forces Mikki and Jack to bring her with them to Sorrow Bay much to the annoyance of the rest of the group who are already there. Her arrival creates unrest amongst the group and sets in motion a few shocking events that will mean that life will never be the same for any of them again.
Kenna's mission had initially been to come over to Australia to persuade her best friend Mikki to return home after she heard about her plan to marry Aussie Jack to get a residency visa. And the longer she spends with the group, the more she can see that they have a strange hold on each other. She finds herself living life on the edge as she discovers some information about some former tribe members, did they leave of their own free will or did someone make them disappear? The more she questions things, the more you realise that there's a dangerous cat and mouse game at play and someone doesn't want her to keep digging for answers.
The 'tribe' as they called themselves were a mix of flawed characters and I can honestly say that like Kenna I really didn't know who to believe and trust. They all had toxic qualities that made my skin crawl and appeared to have a hold on each other as a unspoken threat to prevent them from leaving the group and threatening the balance of their nomadic lifestyle. Most of them were here in Australia on working or tourist visas that were either due to expire or may have expired which is why they choose to live this life under the radar. The more you learn about each of them, the more you realise that quite a few of them are hiding dark secrets and aren't who they say they are. With each snippet of information being provided I was trying to piece together the information to figure out what had happened previously and who was responsible for the current day events. And boy how wrong was I!
The Bay is a gripping, suspenseful read that has a real claustrophobic feel to it despite it being set on a beach and the surrounding coastline of Sorrow Bay.
