This would be an absolute dream lens if it apertured to 2.8, and if it did, I'd probably hardly ever remove it from my camera, but alas, you're just going to have to work around a narrower aperture in those lower light situations if you want to purchase this glass.
Aside from the items mentioned above, it's a killer deal for what it costs. It's superbly made, solid, and for the 150-600mm zoom, it's pretty compact and very reasonably priced.
For those of us that don't have $20k to spend on a super-telephoto lens with a 2.8 aperture, you just can't beat this alternative.
Most definately would recommend this lens. It's a steal.

Gewünschte Eigenschaften:
Ich suchte ein wirklich knackscharfes Super-Tele-Zoomobjektiv für meine Kamera SONY α7S III, mit einer maximalen Brennweite von 600mm.
Da kamen als Hersteller nur SONY, TAMRON und SIGMA in frage. Bei TAMRON hört es bei 500mm schon auf. Das SONY 200-600mm saugt zwar beim Herauszoomen keinen Staub an (Innen-Zoom), und ich könnte auch die Tele-Konverter von SONY benutzen, aber wann braucht man schon mehr als 600mm. Und wenn doch, gibt es immer noch den Clear Image Zoom (maximal 1,5 fach, macht 900mm Brennweite) der Kamera, der ganz ausgezeichnete Ergebnisse bringt!
Der Nachteil des SONY 200-600mm ist für mich das große Packmaß. Ausserdem erfuhr ich aus Tests in YouTube-Videos, dass es in der Auflösung nicht an das „150–600 mm F5-6.3 DG DN Sports“ von SIGMA herankommen soll.
SIGMA bietet aber auch noch das 60-600mm F4,5-6,3 DG DN OS S an. Tatsächlich wäre es gut, wenn ich ohne Objektivwechsel auch noch den Bereich bis 60mm zur Verfügung hätte, was dieses Objektiv ja bietet. Allerdings hätte ich da Kompromisse an anderer Stelle machen müssen: Es ist ca. 1cm größer im Durchmesser, noch länger, noch schwerer, und es kostet auch wesentlich mehr.
In Tests in YouTube-Videos schnitt das „150–600 mm F5-6.3 DG DN S“ von Sigma in praktisch jeder Hinsicht sehr gut bis ausgezeichnet ab, und da sich SIGMA überhaupt in Bezug auf die Serienstreuung der Auflösung (davor habe ich immer Angst) heute keine Schnitzer mehr leistet, fiel die Wahl auf dieses Model.
Bildstabilisierung:
Das Objektiv hat natürlich eine Bildstabilisierung. Allerdings ist das für mich nicht von großer Bedeutung, da ich keine Fotos, sondern praktisch nur 4k-Videos aufnehme, und sowieso immer ein Stativ benutze.
Lichtstärke:
Für ein Zoom-Objektiv mit bis zu 600mm Brennweite ist es relativ lichtstark. Absolut gesehen ist es natürlich kein Lichtriese, aber da es dem exzellentem Bildsensor meiner SONY α7S III völlig Wurscht ist, ob ich mit ISO 100 oder ISO
3200, oder irgend einem Wert dazwischen aufnehme, ist die Lichtstärke gar kein Thema. In diesem ISO-Bereich kann noch kein Bildrauschen wahrnehmbar sein, auch bei sehr großem 4k-Monitor, kleinem Betrachtungsabstand und rauschkritischem Bildinhalt.
Ausserdem blende ich manchmal ab (bei Video im Extremfall bis auf Blende 16 ohne Auflösungsverlust!), denn ich hasse Bilder von Tieren, bei denen nur ein Auge scharf ist, und alles andere unscharf! Was soll der Quatsch? So viele Tier-Aufnahmen wären so großartig geworden, wenn das gesamte Tier scharf abgebildet worden wäre...Tiefenschärfe braucht man!
Auflösung:
Wichtig ist die Auflösung eines Objektives. Ich sage immer: "Schärfe ist nicht alles, aber ohne Schärfe ist alles nichts!"
Die Auflösung in der Bildmitte habe ich sofort geprüft, als das Objektiv angeliefert wurde. (Das kann ich wirklich jedem empfehlen!)
Dazu verglich ich die Auflösung mit älteren Objektiven, die ich natürlich jeweils auf die selbe Brennweite einstellte. Die haben zwar z.T. keine Bildstabilisierung, aber ich weis, dass sie eine wirklich exzellente Auflösung haben. Ergebnis: Ich bin begeistert! Mein neues „150–600mm F5-6.3 DG DN S“ ist kontrastreich und rasiermesserscharf bei jeder Brennweite! Das Objektiv gebe ich nicht mehr her...
AF-S im Foto-Modus:
Ich glaube, das 200-600mm Tele-Zoom-Objektiv von SONY fokussiert noch etwas schneller. Aber ich mache kaum Fotos.
AF-C bei Video:
Der AF-C arbeitet im Video-Betrieb an meiner Kamera ausreichend schnell, genau und ohne Pumpen, und zwar sogar bis 600mm Brennweite bei Blende 16(!!!), wenn es hellen Sonnenschein und guten Motivkontrast gibt. (Nur bei blauem Himmel leuchten die Farben der Motive, und die Konturen treten plastisch hervor. So entstehen schöne Bilder. Bei bedecktem Himmel mache ich keine Aufnahmen. Sieht nicht gut aus.)
Manuelle Fokussierung:
Bewegliche Motive kommen sehr leicht aus der Schärfentiefe heraus, weil Letztere bei großen Brennweiten besonders klein ist. Manuelles Fokussieren bei Teleobjektiven ist also nicht einfach.
Aufgefallen ist mir am Fokussier-Ring, daß er eine Untersetzung hat, die um so größer ist, je größer die Brennweite ist, d.h. je "feinfühliger" der Fokusring reagieren soll! Im unkritischen Bereich der kleinen Brennweiten ist die Untersetzung dagegen klein, so dass man den Fokussierring nicht unnötig weit drehen muß. Ist das genial, oder was?
Andererseits ist das Reibmoment, das beim Drehen des Fokussier-Ringes überwunden werden muß, nicht sehr klein. Das manuelle Scharfstellen buchstäblich mit dem kleinen Finger, wie bei manchen SONY-Objektiven, ist also nicht möglich. Viele Anwender wollen das aber auch gar nicht, denn ein nicht sehr leichtgängiger Fokussiering verdreht sich nicht so leicht unabsichtlich! Das Reibmoment ist also eine Geschmacksfrage.
Glücklicherweise arbeitet der AF-C des Objektivs im Zusammenspiel mit der SONY α7S III derart gut, daß eine manuelle Fokussierung bei Videos selten nötig sein wird.
Lautlos:
Ich laß in einigen Bewertungen zum TAMRON A057 150-500mm F/5-6.7 Di III VC VXD, daß einige wenige Kunden ein Fiepen hören, das vom Bildstabilisierungs-System stammen soll. Das will man natürlich nicht. Das war einer der Gründe, mich gegen das TAMRON zu entscheiden.
Beim SIGMA 150–600 mm F5-6.3 DG DN S höre ich in einem sehr ruhigen Raum absolut keine Geräusche vom Objektiv! Ich mache sehr häufig Aufnahmen mit den im Kamera-Body eingebauten Mikrofonen in ruhiger Umgebung. Auch wenn das AF-System und der Stabi arbeiten, nehmen die Mikrofone absolut keine Störgeräusche auf. So soll es sein.
Masse:
Das ist mit Abstand mein schwerstes Objektiv. Zusammen mit meiner Kamera ergibt sich eine Gesamtmasse von 2,8kg! Das ist nicht wenig. Vergleichbare Objektive haben aber eine ähnliche Masse.
Preiswürdigkeit:
Ist in meinen Augen angesichts der ausgezeichneten optischen Eigenschaften, der Handlichkeit und der Ausstattung sehr gut.
Negatives:
Eigentlich habe ich nur Angst, dass im Laufe der Jahre wegen des „Luftpumpenprinzips“ (kein Innenzoom) Staub angesaugt werden könnte. Andererseits habe ich seit Jahren schon vier Aussen-Zoomobjektive in Benutzung (allerdings von SONY), und da ist noch nichts passiert. Also hoffe ich das Beste.
Ansonsten ist mir nur noch an der Bedienungsanleitung des Objektives etwas Negatives aufgefallen: Die Beschreibung der Wirkung des Custom Switch auf die Bildstabilisierung ist unverständlich. Oder können Sie mir den Unterschied zwischen einem „ausgewogen stabilisierten Live-View-Bild“, einem „stabilen Live-View-Bild“ und einem „natürlichen Live-View-Bild“ erklären? Das ist doch nur BlaBla!
Na gut, ich sehe das als Meckern auf hohem Niveau. Vielleicht bekomme ich es selbst heraus.
Neue Objektiv Firmware Version:
Achtung: Ich kann jedem nur empfehlen, wirklich das Objektiv Firmware Update zu machen! (Version 02 auf Version 03).
Die Verbesserung der Bildstabilisierung ist bei jeder Brennweite enorm!
Allerdings mußte ich bei meiner Kamera (SONY α7S III) von "Activ SteadyShot" umschalten auf "Std SteadyShot", sonst konnte ich gar keine Stabilisierung feststellen. Aber mir soll's recht sein, wo die Bildstabilisierung bei "Std SteadyShot" so gut ist...
Ich bin überaus zufrieden, und kann das Objektiv sehr empfehlen.
Falls etwas Negatives auftreten sollte, wird es ein Update von mir geben.
