The only criticism I have is that you need quite a bit of hand strength to insert the pour spout and pull back the handle to open the lid. If you have arthritis or weak grip strength I recommend tracking one of these down in a hardware store to test whether you can operate the mechanism before you buy.
Open the box and it was perfect No dents or dings
Some customer received theirs with dents that may be related to air transport higher altitudes causing a vacuum inside the can.
I'd recommend to Eagle to prop the lip open so no vacuum can be created from pressure differential in altitude changes while shipping to different locations.
This is the exact same gas can that my local auto parts store sells with their name brand on it for 92.00 dollars, funnel at an extra cost of 15.00.
I bought this for 58.00 dollars with the funnel delivered to my door.
I've used these at my work place for many years never had any problem with this product.
Well worth the money spent.
Don't want another plastic gas can. They are not ment for fuel storage the black plastic cap cracks from the pressure and the plastic gas can are not vented to release pressure so the plastic can swell up and the caps cracked. Felt very unsafe. Works well for transporting fuel but best to leave empty until you need to get fuel.
I bought this metal can because we just had a hole island power outage I had no gas for my generator I was worried about our food storage. My generator will run for 8 hours on 1 gallon of fuel so 5 gallon would have been a big help.
This metal gas can is vented for storage and is safe to use.
I read alot of the comments giving low stars you know about the funnel and the spring tension to open the lid. First off is I'll never use the funnel on the can. I'll stick the funnel in the fuel filler on my car and then slowly put the gas in simple.
The springs on the lid is so the vapors can vent if the pressure gets to high in the can far better then the plastic can that can crack and leak fuel. Not recommend for kids to use
I may buy one more, 10 gallons should be more then enough for an emergency. You don't want to much gas stored at home but I would believe 10 gallons should be ok.
After further use I'd add the following:
1. This unit would be a problem for someone with smaller or weaker hands. The gap between the plastic handle that releases the fuel and the metal handle that must be held while lifting the can is far enough that it is a stretch. Your thumb is around the metal handle while your fingers are reaching to grip the plastic flow release to pull it and release the fuel. Your other hand is under the can to tilt it to pour. The spring loaded cap is stiff; at least when new, and this requires a strong right hand with fingers long enough to reach from handle to handle.
2. A caution. Don't leave the can in the sun while you mow and then go back to refill the tank without carefully releasing the pressure that will have built up in the can. If you pick up the can and start to fill without releasing the pressure first you will get a spray of gasoline that could be dangerous on a hot mower!
This replaces an older 5 gallon unit that had a pump and hose delivery system that finally gave out and is no longer made. Probably due to regulations. The pump system was far safer, not requiring the lifting of 5 gallons of gas and provided a measured delivery with each pump that never resulted in overspill. I'll miss that can!
