The design of the watch is sleek and modern, and the Midnight Aluminum Case gives it a premium look and feel. The Midnight Sport Band is comfortable to wear all day and is perfect for both workouts and everyday use.
The display is bright and vibrant, making it easy to read notifications and messages at a glance. The GPS functionality works smoothly, allowing me to track my runs accurately without needing to carry my phone.
Overall, I highly recommend the Apple Watch SE (2nd Gen) to anyone looking for a reliable smartwatch with essential features. It delivers great performance and style without breaking the bank.
While the battery life is not as long as other competition out there, there are some features that I think make the watch worth it:
1. Fitness+- LOVE THIS APP! I'm currently trailing it free for 3 months, and it's a game changer. I love how there is new content weekly for different exercises like kickboxing, pilates, HIIT, yoga, dance, etc. I have a smart tv and stream the videos on there. I get to see my heart rate and calories burned LIVE, so it motivates me to work harder. You can also filter the exercises by duration, music genre, fitness instructor, and more! I will definitely be keeping the subscription after my trial is over; it''s definitely worth it.
2. Daily/weekly challenges with myself and friends- I enjoy the rings concept and connecting with my friends who also have an Apple watch. I get notifications of when they complete a workout, which encourages me to exercise myself.
3. Find My- I use this app constantly to find my phone in another room.
4. Direct streaming to my iPhone- it is nice to see my stats on my phone
Overall, if you're considering getting an Apple Watch, do it. I selected this one because I don't need the data option, and this is a budget friendly enough device for so much value.
The running function works with or without the accompanying iPhone. It tracks pace, distance, time, etc., and it is programmable for special workouts, like intervals. That's a huge upgrade over my previous older Garmin watch. Programming it is a bit tedious, but once it's programmed, you're done.
It does a great job of tracking my sleep. I can reply to texts, but not emails, either by dictating or "hand writing": you get a screen to use your finger to write each letter. It's a bit time consuming but it's a good option if you're in a place where you can't speak.
The notifications mirror what you get on your iPhone, but because the Gmail app is not available for the watch, you get the notifications, but you can't reply. However, if you have added Gmail to the native Apple mail app, you can use that to reply to emails.
I like that the screen is fully customizable as well. Choose from the various options offered by the watch, or get one that suits your needs. You can have the Metropolitan, with a chronograph-looking face, or choose one with personal photos that rotate.
One thing I did not like and could not wait to change was the wristband. The watch comes with a silicone wristband (pictured) that is not a traditional band with a belt loop-type. It is awkward to put on and take off. I bought a velcro one that works well for my needs, especially for running. It's easy to put on.
The reason I should have spent the extra $80 for the 8 is the "always on" display. The 8 was priced at an incredible bargain -- reduced form $399 to $279 on Prime Day-- and I regret not buying that one instead. As well as the SE works, when you pull up your hand, it doesn't always work, which is very annoying while running or doing any other activity. No matter how much I move my hand or wrist to activate the display, sometimes it just doesn't work, and I have to tap the screen. If I'm running, I just want to be able to take a quick glance at my stats.
I also wish the screen were a little bigger. Mine came with a 40 mm, and I thought it was enough, but now that I've had it, I wish I had chosen the 44 mm. Those extra 4 mm make a difference!
I will eventually upgrade to the 8, or whatever replaces it, on a future Prime Day. For now, I have the SE.
