I wanted to grind my own garlic powder (my brother told me how much better home made garlic powder tastes). I did the initial "seasoning" of the Mortar & Pestle; cleaned it and let it dry completely before using it to grind the thin slices (using a garlic slicer from Amazon) of garlic in a dehydrator. I used a fine mesh strainer to separate the larger specs of garlic for more grinding in the mortar and pestle. The Mortar and Pestle has two ends of different sizes on the opposite ends ... which I use for different levels of crushing force (not sure if that is the intent for the two ends of the pestle, but that's how I use them). I've been happy with the results; not sure how else one could grind dehydrated garlic slices into very fine powder ... without over-heating the garlic ... a motorized grinder would no doubt heat up the garlic ... the reason I bought a conical burr coffee grinder, which is said to move at a slower speed than the blender type bladed coffee grinders that are often used for grinding coffee. Plus, now that I'm retired, I view the use of the mortar and pestle as part of my physical fitness program!

The Mortar & Pestle seem to be of good quality and should last me as long as I care to use them ... pass them on to my kids when I move on to the great Mortar & Pestle in the sky!
