Product Description
After rigorous field testing, this optic has been given a Silver-tier rating by the National Tactical Officers Association.
This Primary Arms rifle scope is part of the SLx optics line. SLx optics built their reputation for innovation, reliability, and value. All SLx optics undergo rigorous field-testing during development to best serve you in any environment.
The Primary Arms 1-6x24 second focal plane scope (Gen III) features the exclusive, patented Advanced Combined Sighting System reticle. Bullet drop compensation, wind holds, moving target leads and range estimation are seamlessly integrated into an easy to use, instinctive sighting system that is very fast from 0-300 yards and very accurate from 300-800 yards. The second focal plane design keeps the reticle the same size at all magnifications for quick acquisition at low power and advanced reticle functionality at 6x maximum power.
The flagship Gen II 1-6x24 is a tough act to follow, so Primary Arms worked hard to make incremental but real improvements. The Gen III is 18mm shorter (10.04in long), weighs 1.88 ounces less (16.9 oz. total), and has an additional 10 MOA of internal adjustment compared to the older model. The ACSS reticle has also been improved, now featuring a chevron center aiming point rather than a dot.
Partial red reticle illumination is provided by a single (included) CR2032 battery, and a spare battery is included inside the windage turret cap. A total of 11 settings take the reticle all the way up to daylight bright. All lenses are fully multi-coated for maximum light transmission and the 6063 aluminum body is Type II hard anodized in matte black.

Second Focal Plane (SFP) Reticles
A Second Focal Plane reticle means that your reticle size stays the same whether zoomed in or out.
Pros: The optics are simpler to manufacturer making them more prevalent on the market and lower in cost to consumers.
Cons: The reticle being the same size regardless of the magnification means the stadia marks can only be used at maximum magnification where they are accurate. At anything but maximum magnification some old school calculations will need to be made to hit the target bulls-eye.

If you know your targets are roughly 18 inches wide, they can be ranged on the side Auto Range system, or directly on the BDC hold overs!
Verticle Auto Ranging
On the right side of the horseshoe is the integrated ranging system. Place the bottom of the target on the bottom rung and range up.

Not all sunshine and roses though. The focus ring seems a little loose for what should be a set-and-forget aspect (once it's set to your vision, why change it?), and the rear cap fits on the focus ring - so any bump or shift can throw your reticle slightly out of focus. The easy fix is to take the cap off, focus the reticle, then reinstall the cap vertically so returning it to proper focus is as easy as realigning the cap. The "snap" and grip when closing the caps is a little weak also - any little nudge pops them open. This can be a good thing under pressure, but a minor annoyance while carrying. The caps do fit firmly on the housing though, so no complaints there.
All in all, my issues with the optic are minimal and minor - nothing that actually affects the performance of the optic. It rides well on my 3-gun rifle and I wouldn't trade it for a competitor's optic for twice the price.
Overall, a excellent optic for this price point..
1. It has a light up reticle which will come in hand with shooting at dark targets, in darker areas such as the woods, or shooting dark colored animals such as racoon, some squirrels, and some other varmints in our area.
2. The variable zoom just makes the scope more versatile (even though 9/10 times I will keep it at 6x)
3. The reviews of how solid the scope is and the fact it was build on their .308 AR scope platform, I knew it would hold up to the elements and abuse
4. The lifetime warranty. The 6x just has a 2 year, this one has a lifetime!
The sight picture is very clear which is my favorite thing about PA optics. They (for the price) have fantastic glass in them, crystal clear reticles, and nice finishes.
My only drawback to this scope is that it doesn't have a larger objective lens like the 6x, which would help bring additional light into the scope, but the benefits far outweigh that one drawback.
I have 2 recommendations/wishes for this scope.
1. I wish PA would specifically tell you the recommended bullet to use (36gr, 40gr, velocity??) At 175 or 200 yards, there is going to be quite a differnce in drop between the different .22lr rounds out there, so I wish we had some guidelines to follow for sighting in.
2. I hope they come out with a .17 caliber version for both HMR and WSM. I would buy that scope as well in a heartbeat.
The quality of the glass is not like the ones in Night Force, or Swarovski, however, it is more than good enough for this type of application. After all, this scope is not designed for precision shooting at 600 yards. A higher definition glass is not going to improve my performance, therefore, I saw no point in going for Trijicon.
I compared it to the Vortex 1-6 Strike Eagle (I love Vortex, and own several optics from this company), however, as many reviewers say, the reticle lines on the Vortex are way too thick to the point they obscure the target. The farther the target, the worst it would be.
The range finder on the Primary Arms works just fine, but I am not a combatant, therefore I see little use for me. But it is there, and it does not bother me.
I have a few minor criticisms regarding design (not quality). The turrets are covered (not a fan of unscrewing turrets on the field or hunting). I much prefer when the turrets are open and in clear sight for quick adjustments.
The other criticism (again, related to design, not quality) is that there is no "off" selection in between intensity selectors on the illumination dial. That should be standard on any optics now days.
There is minor distortion around the edges on the 1x power, but at this price range, that is not going to affect my rating as it does not affect my shooting accuracy and I can still shoot with both eyes open.
On the plus side, the reticle is edged on the scope. That's a big plus for me. I never understood why manufacturers design electrooptics without an edge reticle. No batteries, not optics. Not good for quick shooting either as you would have to turn reticle on (unless they come with motion sensor)
Some reviewers indicated it is not bright enough in bright sunlight. Honestly, in those situations, I rather use the edged reticle. I never saw the point in illuminating something that is already bright enough.
This is not a criticism, but a suggestion, I wish it would come in FDE color as an option, even if it would cost extra.
I would give it a 4 1/2 stars if I could. If these minor issues were fixed on a newer version, I would give it a 5 stars rating. It is still a good value for the money

No regret, I like it.
