A classic you can't go wrong with!

A classic you can't go wrong with!
I have a business that involves a lot of artisan sculpting. I'll admit, I tried the cheapo dollar store clays, and the cheapo craft store clays. Then I tried the not-as-cheap clays from the craft stores. Results were better, but the clays still broke apart too much unless you worked it (and your hands) to bits. Not only was this a waste of time, but I ended up with sore hands. So, I went back to basics. This Sculpey is the clay I used years ago when I first started doing artisan work, but when the new colors and features in other clays came out (glitter, stone, glow in the dark, etc.) I started messing around with them. At that time I wasn't making anything to sell, so it didn't matter, but now that I am, I needed something that would be consistent and reliable. This is smooth, bakes perfectly, not crumbly, and not too soft. The ideal modeling clay!

5.0 out of 5 stars The low entry level version of the product
Reviewed in the United States on February 22, 2023
This product is pretty economical. This is my work using the product to make a tree. For putting the product around an armature I recommend doing as much at once as possible. Once you've mixed and worked the putty, its good to go, however if you attempt to take a few days to do a project involving an armature, especially one as extensive as this tree, you will notice that it tends to crack. It seems to be more prone to cracking and chipping off an armature if you wait a day or two and continue to work on a piece. This piece was baked in our electric oven, and the tutorials and product seemed to respond well to being baked as directed.

I recommend doing a project with this, if you are just starting out, because you get quite a bit more compared to the pricier and more professional grade materials.
