Shadi HasanzadeNemati is the recipe developer, author and photographer behind the blog Unicorns in the Kitchen. For her, the magic of cooking is in bringing everyone together and sharing the experience of having delicious homemade food. She believes that a recipe is like a canvas and the person who makes it is the artist, bringing their own creativity to give it a personal twist. She has written several pieces for Food52 and other publications.

She grew up in her mother's kitchen, where she magically put a delicious meal together using a few ingredients and very easy steps. That's what she do with my recipes, too. She makes sure that everyone can make and enjoy her recipes.

She started her blog as a means of showing everyone how easy it is to put a meal together with everyday ingredients and to introduce delicious Persian/Iranian homemade food to her readers. She wanted to go beyond kebabs and dishes that one always finds in a Persian restaurant. Through Unicorns in the Kitchen, she shared her stories about her family and herself and how food has always been a very important part of their lives. Eventually her blog led to my first cookbook, "The Enchantingly Easy Persian Cookbook" which is a collection of Persian recipes that are so beloved to her.

You can read more about Shadi and her work on my website www.UnicornsintheKitchen.com

Delicious & traditional recipes
This is a well written book with some wonderful, traditional recipes! Here are a few photos from the Split chickpea stew. We often use a fagor pressure cooker to enhance the cook time, tenderness & texture of many dishes, helping to reduce a long cook time into as week night meal. We are totally gluten free and work to limit lactose in our diets, so Persian dishes are a great addition to the lifestyle. Rose water, dried Limes or other authentic ingredients may be purchased locally if you're fortunate or you can find them on Amazon.

I got this book for one reason. The Unicorns in the Kitchen blog is the only blog in the whole world that has an easy, fool proof barbari recipe.

After being amazed at my small accomplishment of making this notoriously tricky bread (and reading way too many other Persian blogs that unnecessarily complicated things), I became a huge fan of This author. The cookbook is just as good: simple, easy, and authentic. You won’t find beautiful pictures or fancy script but you will find tried and true recipes that actually work and taste delicious at a great price point.

This book hardly has any pictures, so you don’t know what the dishes are supposed to look like. It does have a few good recipes.

While I am not Iranian/Persian and thus cannot speak to how these recipes match up to homemade recipes, I have really liked this cookbook. The recipes are not too difficult and produce mostly healthy and tasty recipes which are flavorful without being over spiced. This has now become one of my main go-to cookbooks for a variety of rice dishes involving only vegetables of fruit and chicken, beef, or potentially other meats if desired. I definitely recommend it for anyone in interested in this cuisine and who, like me, wanted more interesting and healthy dishes which were easy to make and flavorful without relying too much on a strong spice texture.

I'm a Persian and I'm a terrible cook! But this book is so wonderfully written that even I was successful making dishes from it. The recipes are step by step and easy to follow. And the language is very friendly with a touch of personal stories here and there which makes it more relate-able. (nothing like those fancy cookbooks that makes you feel like you're working on a NASA project!) The other thing I liked about the book was the detailed information on Persian cuisine and the ingredients which would be very helpful for people that don't know much about it.
Overall I strongly recommend this book for someone who's interested in Persian cooking as well as people like me who might be more talented in eating the food rather than making it! ;)

The book seemed like it was great when I first saw it and the price wasn't bad so I picked up the Kindle version. I was disappointed that there weren't many pictures of the foods in there because it would be nice to see what the finished product should look like after I make it. Also, I'm not Persian so I have no idea what the are and I only have their description to go on.

I love this book. My best friends as a child were Lebanese, my best friend in high school was Persian, and one of my closest friends now is part Saudi/Egyptian. Needless to say, despite not having a drop of Middle Eastern blood in me, Middle Eastern cuisine has dotted my history and I'm particularly fond of it. And because I don't like very pungent flavors (no garlic overload for me, please), I don't like overly sweet or fruity dishes (sorry, Morocco), and I prefer fragrant, elegant food, Persian food has always stood out to me as my favorite Middle Eastern style of cooking. The problem with previous cookbooks were that they were more fun to look at than actually use, because the recipes were too involved. Shadi's cookbook solves that problem for me. Each recipe is something that any home cook can make, and I love that she includes Persian drinks and snacks! I also love the personal anecdotes about growing up in a Persian family and the background info on the recipes. The recipes are enchantingly easy, but the book itself is enchanting, as well!

I was married to a Persian man from Isfahan for five years. He was a Fabulous cook and taught me how to cook his delicate, wonderful food. This cookbook is one of the best ones I've seen that corresponds closely to what I learned. The only difference is my husband didn't cook with cinnamon, except occasionally. Nor did we use much saffron, which may have been due to the cost as we were students. We also didn't use a tortilla on the bottom of rice but used thinly sliced potatoes or just left the rice on the bottom of the pan for tahdig, which gives a crunchy rice. Everybody wants the rice from the bottom of the pan!
We did have a massive crowd for dinner every night, or we were at his friends houses with a huge group of people. Very fun. The Persians are huge with gatherings of family and friends.
I'm thrilled to see the good kooku and drink recipes, as I didn't learn as much as I would have liked.
Anyway, this is a wonderful book.
The beet with yogurt is superb.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clearly written to introduce Persian cooking into our household
Reviewed in Canada on May 12, 2017
i was impressed with the excellent presentation to Persian food and the careful introduction to the types of ingredients and equipment. I also liked the way the recipes were organized and the different categories (along with a clear explanation of what each category means) of each recipe. Each recipe is clearly presented. A short description of the dish is provided. Ingredients are presented in the order they are used and, where special processing is required, these are clearly outlined. The instructions are easy to follow and provide extra cautions or advice were it is needed. There are often a tip or extra suggestion provided at the end of the recipe. This book is clearly written to introduce Persian cooking into our household and can be followed by someone with little or no experience with Middle Eastern cooking..

I couldn't recommend this book enough, the recipes are easy to follow and absolutely delicious. I made some meatballs for my Lebanese boyfriend who rates Persian food as his number one favourite cuisine, and he hasn't stopped raving about how amazing they were - this was a few months ago!

I LOVE this book
