My girlfriend fell in love with the book as soon as I showed it to her, and demanded I buy 2 more so we can give them to other froends' children.

Josephine the kangaroo lives to dance. She dances with brolgas and lyre birds, she dances alone, she dances despite the naysayers who say that kangaroos don't dance, they jump. When she finds that the ballet is coming to Shaggy Gully she wants to dance with the ballet and wear a tutu and silk ballet shoes. Her brother, Joey, scoffs and tells her to give up her dream and come back to the bush where she belongs but when the lead dancer and understudy are injured and can't dance Josephine leaps into the breach and the director of the show lets her dance the lead role.
This is a gorgeous story about following your dreams and seeing where they lead you. The illustrations are evocative and there are many touches of humour. I particularly liked the picture of the wombat in a tutu at the end of the book when Josephine has inspired everyone to dance. Just delightful.
Highly recommended.
