Lead Tape on HoselPlacing lead tape on the hosel (the part of the club head that connects to the shaft) can lower the club's center of gravity (CG) and promote a higher launch angle. This adjustment can help golfers who tend to hit low shots or want to increase the trajectory of their shots. |
Lead Tape on ToePlacing lead tape on the toe or heel of the club head can influence the club's moment of inertia (MOI). By adding weight to one side, you can increase the MOI in that direction, making the club more forgiving on mishits toward that side. This adjustment can help golfers who consistently miss shots on one side of the club face. |
Lead Tape on BackAdding lead tape to the back of the club head can increase its overall weight, which can have multiple effects. It can shift the CG closer to the heel of the club, promoting a draw bias and helping to reduce slices for golfers who struggle with a fade or slice. Additionally, increasing the overall weight can enhance the club's feel and stability, allowing for better control and potentially more distance. |
Lead Tape on Sole
Applying lead tape to the sole of the club head can affect the club's interaction with the turf and its overall playability. By adjusting the weight distribution on the sole, golfers can fine-tune the club's performance for different turf conditions, such as increasing the bounce or reducing it.
Lead Tape on Drivers
Using lead tape on a golf driver head can brings these changes: weight adjustment, center of gravity(CG), impact on swing speed and adjusting fade or draw bias. For example, adding weight to the heel can encourage a draw, while adding weight to the toe can promote a fade.
#1 and #2 prevents slice
#3 and #6 prevents hook
#4 lowers center of gravity
#5 helps you hit it higher
Lead Tape on Pickleball Paddles
Reasons To Add Lead Tape On Pickleball Paddle
Adding lead tape to a pickleball paddle is a customization technique that players often use to modify the paddle's weight and balance to suit their playing style and preferences.
- Adjusting Weight and Balance: Lead tape allows players to fine-tune the weight and balance of their paddle. A paddle's weight distribution can significantly impact a player's control, power, and maneuverability. By strategically adding lead tape to specific areas of the paddle, players can shift the balance point and overall weight to match their desired feel.
- Increasing Power: Adding lead tape to the head of the paddle can increase the paddle's head weight, which can result in more power when hitting the ball. This extra weight can help generate additional force during shots, allowing players to hit harder shots and potentially improve their offensive game.
- Enhancing Control: On the other hand, adding lead tape to the handle or lower portion of the paddle can increase the paddle's overall weight while maintaining a more even balance. This can lead to improved control and accuracy during shots, which can be particularly beneficial for players who prioritize placement and finesse over power.
- Customizing Playing Style: Different players have different playing styles and preferences. Some prefer a heavier paddle for added stability and power, while others prefer a lighter paddle for quicker reaction times and agility. Lead tape provides a way to customize the paddle's characteristics to match the player's unique style.
- Compensating for Paddle Characteristics: Not all pickleball paddles are created equal. Some players might find that their paddle lacks a certain attribute they desire, such as power or control. Adding lead tape can help compensate for these shortcomings and create a more balanced playing experience.
- Fine-Tuning Performance: Competitive players often experiment with different paddle setups to find what works best for them. Adding or removing lead tape in small increments allows players to make subtle adjustments to their paddle's performance and feel, helping them optimize their game.
- Adapting to Court Conditions: Court conditions can vary, and players might want to adjust their paddle's characteristics based on factors like wind, temperature, and the type of court surface. Having the ability to modify the paddle's weight and balance with lead tape can aid in adapting to these changing conditions.
How To Add Lead Tape To Your Pickleball Paddle
Lead tape can be strategically added to different parts of a pickleball paddle to achieve specific effects and customize the paddle's performance according to a player's preferences.
- Head of the Paddle (i.e., 12 o’clock): Increasing power and enhancing smash shots
- Handle of the Paddle (i.e., 5 and 7 o’clock): enhance control and accuracy during shots. And reducing vibration
- Edge Guard Area (Full around) : provide a more solid and stable feel to the paddle
- Central Area (i.e., 3 and 9 o’clock): distribute the weight more evenly along the paddle, balancing power and control
- Test and Adjustment: The placement and amount of lead tape can be adjusted incrementally based on trial and error. Players might start with a small amount of lead tape, play with the paddle, and then make additional adjustments until they find the right configuration for their playing style.

I have a 16mm Hyperion knock-off and this tape fits it perfectly with room to spare. It should work fine for a 14mm paddle as well, or at least one with an edge guard.
