Christmas at the Cupcake Cafe: A Novel Kindle Edition

4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 2,445 ratings

From perennial bestseller Jenny Colgan comes this sugar-fueled Christmas treat of a novel, bursting with recipes and holiday cheer.

Life is sweet for Issy Randall, owner of the Cupcake Cafe. Taught how to bake by her beloved late grandfather, she is proudly carrying on the family tradition with her London eatery. Not only is business thriving, the icing on the cupcake is that she also happens to be head over heels in love. Plus she’s surrounded and supported by close friends, even if her cupcake colleagues Pearl and Caroline don’t seem quite as upbeat about the upcoming season of snow and merriment.

But when her boyfriend Austin is scouted for a possible move to New York, Issy is forced to contemplate the prospect of a long-distance romance. And when the Christmas rush at the cafe—with its increased demand for her delectable creations—begins to take its toll, Issy has to decide what she holds most dear.

This December, Issy will have to rely on all her reserves of calm, courage, and cinnamon to make sure everyone has a merry Christmas, one way or another. . .

Issy has everything she ever dreamed of...a successful cafe, great friends and the love of her life, Austin. The cafe has been busier than ever and now that Christmas has arrived Issy is ready to get to work. Austin is in New York for a work trip leaving Issy to take care of his 11 year old brother, Darny and when tickets arrive for the two of them to join Austin in NYC for an all expenses paid trip for the weekend the two of them can't wait to be reunited. But when things are set in motion for big changes in all of their lives, Issy is forced to evaluate what she loves most and where her home truly is. Every Jenny Colgan book I have read feels like a warm hug and is always set somewhere you wish you could jump through the pages to visit and "Christmas at the Cupcake Cafe" is no exception. I wasn't aware that this was book two in a series when I started reading but I could follow along totally fine without any confusion. I loved the recipes included at the start of the chapters...now if only I could find someone to make them! Don't miss out on Colgan's collection.

I love, love, love Jenny Colgan! Her books are warm and her story lines are fun, exciting and lovely. Add Christmas and I'm going into debt buying and reading her wonderful novels. The good thing for me is I love reading them over and over again, especially once it turns a little cold. A cup of coffee, a Jenny Colgan book and I'm in heaven. Warning: she is addictive!

Another fun one! I loved how Caroline changed as the book progressed. Very touching and real! Issy is an amazing character - hard working and filled with integrity and love. Along with her quirky insecurities! The story about Pearl continues as well as the other characters. Nice segue into the next story which I'm looking forward to reading!

I was in the mood for a seasonal story and thought the characters in this one were diverse and very well written. I usually don't read the romance type book, but was a quick read during the holidays, I enjoyed the story and related to the decisions the characters had to make about their careers, families, and celebrating Christmas with loved ones - whether related or not. I thought the descriptions of the food was lovely and also the recipes at the beginnings of the chapters were neat and piqued my curiosity for some new and more typical English type puddings and desserts. Nice, warm, feel good story.

Jenny Colgan, thank you for writing such wonderful stories!
I loved this little series. Your characters become the readers friends. There was such a warmth and sense of family in this series, yet the problems that arose were common to all.
A very wonderful storyline. Highly recommend this to you all!

Isobel and Austin suddenly are faced with challenges in their year long relationship. Austin is leaving London for New York to interview for a job in big banking. His prospects at home are not good and he has a mouthy 11 year old brother who is expelled from school that he is guardian of. Problem being he would not be accepted in another good school. Moving him to a school in N.Y. would be the answer. ....... Isobel owns a bakery and cafe in London. She has 3 capable employees and makes a fair living. The cafe is her dream come true as she is following her grandfather's footsteps who also was a baker. She does not want to see Austin go but knows he has to do what is best. Austin's big company sends for Isobel and little brother to come to N.Y. and she hates it and goes back home when she hears there are some problems at the cafe. Being apart from each other proves difficult for both of them and they reunite to work things out. I was happy that they were able to. ........This author included recipes with almost every chapter which was a nice touch, however , we in the U.S. do not measure in the metric system so all the recipes had to be skipped over by me. Makes me wonder how Isobel taught Kellie Lee to make her cupcakes. I'll say good-bye to all the holiday cafe's and tea rooms for now. It's been fun.

I laughed, sighed, enjoyed, savoured, cried, loved this book. And if you read it before Christmas, your holidays will get a special light and warmness. You get a great wish to bake something great to those you love, and if not bake, then do something really special! The only thing I can recommend, read and enjoy this book, and then share it with your best friend. This is what I am doing. The book is ready for my best girlfriend, my niece, to pick it up.
