The folding feature is surprisingly simple and also secure when the retaining pins are in place. The retaining pins, there are two, are tethered to the pin and the rack with a thin cable. It could be cut with wire cutters, otherwise it isn't going anywhere. Great feature for those among us who place loose parts on the bumper and drive off.
I like the easily removed bike rest for the times when only one bike is transported. The retaining screws at the ends of the bar are a little cumbersome removing when the second rest is removed. I may replace them with a thumb screw depending on how often I end up carrying two bikes. The dual head screws (straight slot and phillips head) do provide a bit of security so replacing them with a fastener more easily removed may not be a good idea.
The large bolt that secures the frame to the 2" hitch receiver works great limiting lateral motion of the entire rack. I would like a keyed locking version. The spring pin that's fits into the hole at the end of the bolt only prevents a loose bolt from falling out. If the bolt is tightened with a 3/4 inch socket to the point where the rack does not sway it is unlikely going to loosen. Not saying ignore it, it should be checked every time you stop for rest or fuel.
There are velcro securing straps that hold both front and rear wheels in the wheel rests. There is a welded bar on one side that holds the closed loop, however the other end of the strap is belted on a wheel rail cross member. This has the strap twisted about 90 degrees and definitely under stress. I think there should be a retaining bar on both sides of the wheel. It would be much easier securing the strap ( the spokes are in the way when strap is fed to the other side) and less wear on one end.
That is about it. I would recommend this rack to a friend and would buy another if needed. The price is much less than I would have guessed just seeing the rack and not knowing the price.
We read lots of reviews, and learned from them.
1. Wobbling. Yes, the rack wobbles, not because is insecure but because it has a tilting feature (basically a screw that you put in a different place). While not in use, you lock the tilting rack in the other position and if you touch the rack it seems to wobble. As long as the very bottom screw is secured to the car hitch, there is no problem.
2. Main Bottom screw loosens. On the trip up, we were super nervous about the bottom screw (the main one that attaches the rack to the trailer hitch) loosening. We only tightened it once (once we indeed got to our destination 750 miles north from home). We have the wrench that came with the rack permanently in our glove compartment just in case. You require strength to tighten it, though, and is a bit inconveniently located. We are thinking of buying a better quality wrench to keep in the car, as the one provided is very cheap quality.
3. Scratching on the bikes due to movement. Before the long ride we placed the bikes, right after we installed the rack and drove around the neighborhood. We did notice that there was some light friction between the bar and the bike, and that could cause scratching with time. We solved it by putting a rag into our bike bars and attaching it with tape. that solved the issue. We acknowledge the foam that comes with the rack is not very good quality.
4. Safety concerns. It is true that there is zero safety features built in this rack. If desired, stealing the whole rack is super easy, you just need the wrench for it. Same goes with the bikes: they literally will be gone in two minutes, as they are super easy to dismount. We did use a bike lock to wrap around the bike wheels and frame to make it more difficult, but I would not necessarily leave the bikes alone in a more insecure place. the bikes are THAT easy to mount and dismount
5. Overall features. Velcro straps seem so tiny and yet they secured the bikes perfectly. You have to make sure the wheel sits well on top of the mount on both sides of the wheel, and secure it with the velcro. they did not move. We had additional velcro at home that we placed around the frames to potentially reduce more movement. Placing the bikes took us like 30 minutes the first time. I believe the last time we placed them on the rack it took no more than 5-10 minutes. It's really simple once you have adapted the rack to your bike sizes and heights. Even so, if you have to place a new bike, you might still find it easier and easier as you understand how the rack works.
6. Tilting mechanism. Based on our experience (Hyundai Elantra), we did not need to use this at all to open the booth of the car. That was good, as I would find it very hard to tilt the thing with the bikes on them due to weight.
7. Features particular to us: My husband is 12 inches taller than me, and we have good quality hybrid bikes with different handlebars and weird frames. At the very beginning, it was impossible to put the two bikes with the handlebars and seats into the rack. My husband also inverted the hooks for the bike frames (with respect to the instructions provided), and it solved the issue of the bike height difference. We also learned that we did not need to take one of the two seats away, just one was ok. But what I am trying to say is that we had to adjust the rack to our needs. the features it has, allowed us to do so. Just required a bit of figuring out. The picture shows the rack on the way up: we moved each rack a bit further to each side to accommodate the bikes and took the seats off. On the way back we actually left one of the seats, and centered the rack more.
8. Bikes, if not secured, don't stand on their own!! The only bad thing that happened to us on day one was that as we were placing the bike that is on the side of the booth, we left it for a second, and sure enough, the bike tilted to the booth and slightly dented the top. Totally our fault, but just remember that the bike will tilt if you don't hold it and secure it with the upper hook.
9. The only negative thing I could say about this rack is that I noticed some droplets of rust? the rack has been installed in the car for over a month. I wonder if it rusts quickly or not. I hope not, as the product overall is so good.
10. What would we improve?
-the foam from the hooks are very cheap quality.
-some kind of added safety mechanisms that makes it available for you to leave the bikes unattended but safely locked
-some sort of padding that would reduce the wobbling caused by the tilting mechanism when not in use.
All in all, we are SUPER happy with this purchase. We did not spend much, tried it in a super long trip, and came back super satisfied. Thanks to previous reviewers also that made us be aware of potential issues and think of solutions! I hope this helps the next one!!

Unfortunately, we can't open the hatch on our 92 VW van. The hitch needs to be out further about 6 more inches.

The only thing is that it's quite heavy (but sturdy)
I transport my bikes in confidence with this bike rack!
