Review

"Meddy Chan and her indomitable aunties are back in the hilarious Four Aunties and a Wedding by Jesse Q. Sutanto."—PopSugar

“Sutanto deftly blends preposterous humor (British slang, mafia posers) with enduring devotion to prove ‘there is no right or wrongway to ‘being Asian.’”—
Booklist

“Charming, chaotic, and sometimes ridiculous, this tale will appeal to anyone who both adores and is embarrassed by their family, which is just about everyone.”—
Publishers Weekly

“You can't help but get a kick out of the auntie’s outrageous stunts and their even bigger hearts. Keep your friends close and these four aunties closer.”—
Kirkus

"Sutanto pushes you to the edge of your seat with this suspenseful rom-com that infuses humor and heritage."—
USA Today

"There's a kind of magic to Sutanto's writing… She tackles complicated issues of culture and family ties while also creating convoluted plotlines that'll make you squeal with laughter."—
The Wellesley News

"Heart, humor, and the mafia...this saga has it all!"—
Woman's World

About the Author

Jesse Q. Sutanto grew up shuttling back and forth between Indonesia, Singapore, and Oxford, and considers all three places her home. She has a Masters from Oxford University, but she has yet to figure out how to say that without sounding obnoxious. Jesse has forty-two first cousins and thirty aunties and uncles, many of whom live just down the road. When she's not writing, she's gaming with her husband (mostly first-person shooters), or making a mess in the kitchen with her two daughters. --This text refers to the hardcover edition.

Hilarious!
Four Aunties and a Wedding is everything I hoped it would be! It’s laugh out loud funny, has the best characters, and made me smile throughout! This is one of my favorite series in the entire world and I’m really hoping the author writes more books because I simply can’t get enough! If you need a pick me up, this is the series that will do it for you!If you’ve read Dial A for Aunties, then you’re probably familiar with the antics that these aunties and Meddy get into. Obviously, they take things way to far but because it’s fiction it slides. In this one, Meddy is finally getting married to the love of her life Nathan. But things do go according to plan when she and her aunties find out that their wedding planners are part of the mafia… You can only imagine what ensues from there…If you’re looking for the perfect mashup of romcom and mystery, then this is the book for you! I do recommend reading Dial A for Aunties first though as this one ties into that one.𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗙𝗘𝗖𝗧 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗙𝗔𝗡𝗦 𝗢𝗙:• Mysteries• Romantic Comedies• Books that make you laugh out loud𝗠𝗬 𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun characters, but a repeat of book one

3.5 stars for Four Aunties and a Wedding by Jesse Q. Sutanto

Four Aunties and a Wedding is the sequel to Dial A For Aunties, but it seemed almost like I was reading the same book. Where book one had Meddy’s family going to extraordinary measures to cover up a murder at a wedding they were catering, book two had Meddy’s family going to extraordinary measures to prevent a murder from occurring at Meddy’s wedding. I would have preferred a sequel about Meddy’s funny, caring Ma and aunties living their normal lives instead of them reacting to yet another set of crazy, unusual circumstances. The characters are interesting enough to support a story without extreme situations.

My enjoyment of the sequel was also tempered by how the events of the story affected Meddy and Nathan’s wedding day. I felt anxious and sad while reading the sequel, unable to enjoy the humor woven into the story. Nathan’s mild response to the ongoing shenanigans of Meddy’s family seemed unrealistic as well.

I believe Ms. Sutanto is a talented author, but if you read Dial A For Aunties, you really don’t need to read the sequel.
