About the Author

Carey Jones is the co-author of Every Cocktail Has A Twist and Be Your Own Bartender. With a fifteen-year career in food and drink writing, she also authored Brooklyn Bartender and served as the managing editor of Serious Eats. 
John McCarthy is a career bartender and mixologist who has been collaborating on spirits writing with Carey Jones since 2013, in their Food & Wine column "Liquor Cabinet Roulette," their 2018 book Be Your Own Bartender, and Every Cocktail Has A Twist. They live in Sonoma County, California.

I love this book! It's perfect for all levels...taking a classic cocktail and adding subtle variations that are delicious, easy and fun. The book is so well written and easy to navigate. It's much more than just a recipe book, it speaks to the craft of cocktail making, specifically tools and techniques. I purchased their other book "Be Your Own Bartender" and gifted that as a holiday gift to all my family members one year. They loved it! I'd suggest doing the same for this one! Add depth to your cocktail palate with subtle, layered flavors for pleasant surprises and new classics.

While there are some flow charts for choosing a cocktail, if you're looking for "gin drinks, citrus, light" you'll have a better guide in Carey and John's first book, "Be Your Own Bartender."

What's so great about "Every Cocktail has a Twist" are the novel flavor combinations that make old classics into new experiences.

We've all got our favorites but with this book you can feel like you're trying something new and creative at a Williamsburg speakeasy...without the waxed mustache and suspenders.

This book is equally effective as a beginner’s guide as it is an expert. Like I know what I like in a margarita, so I appreciated some of the variations and recommendations. But I’m much less confident in an Old Fashioned, and there was the perfect level of detail to ease me in as a newby.
