We absolutely love "The Seven Silly Eaters"! The rhymes and adorable illustrations make it a hit at bedtime. It's such a sweet story about family life and picky eaters, and as a parent, I never get tired of reading it out loud. It's become our go-to gift for friends because everyone we share it with falls in love with it too.

This is our favorite picture book ever. Even my husband says it is his favorite to read the kids. Sweet and a little silly, it's a crowd pleaser. The illustrations are simply wonderful.

p next in the birthday book reviews is The Seven Silly Eaters by Mary Ann Hoberman. Now, this book is not new (published in 1997, to be exact), but it was new to us when our youngest got it as a gift, and it has been on constant repeat since September 26th! Hoberman has contributed many wonderful books to children’s literature (A House is a House for Me, All Kinds of Families, Strawberry Hill, the You Read to Me, I’ll Read to You series, among others!), and Marla Frazee has illustrated some of our favorites (All the World, A Couple of Boys Have the Best Week Ever, Everywhere Babies…), so I’m not sure how I missed this one before!

So, how many of you moms out there have picky eaters? Hopefully nothing like the Peters kids in this book, but maybe like me, your kids have LOVED something one day (Siggi’s yogurt tubes…), and then the moment you stock up at Costco, they won’t touch it any more. Anyone? Anyway, you moms can probably relate to Mrs. Peters in more ways than one. And if you’re not a mom, you can read this and appreciate (or relate to) the hilarity in the pictures, as well as the wonderfully flowing verse. This is honestly a book that we don’t mind reading on repeat in our house, because it’s fun to read and funnier to look at! What adult out there doesn’t want to just throw a fit one day and then be able to sit back and play your cello while your children cook the next? (Swipe right for photos).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Extra bonus— this book ends with a birthday, so makes a great themed birthday present if you’re into that like I am!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Publishers recommend for ages 4-8, but our 3-year-old adores it, and I’m guessing older audiences would, too!

My oldest got this book as a gift at a baby shower 20+ years ago and it quickly became a favorite for our whole family. The story is great and the illustrations are amazing. We have gifted it more times than I can count and I have even used it in homeschool co-op classes to talk about nutrition. Highly recommend it for any home or class library!

We have owned this book for years since my first child was 4 years old and we still love to read it from time to time years later. My kids are now 7 and 11 years old and still really enjoy it! I love that it acknowledges the hard work that Mom's do for their families and then shows the kids taking the initiative to show their love to their Mother! Of course it does this in an entertaining and fun way. You will enjoy this read.

Now, most of us do not have a houseful of children, but this is a funny book. Mothers will appreciate the mother in this book. Her outlook and expressions as she has more and more children is hysterical. The illustrations are tremendous and depict how her life and everyone in the family has changed as their family has grown. She loves all of her children, but... I'm laughing even as I am writing this! It's not only a fun book to read with your children but it is a great book to pick out details and discuss respect for others. It's the perfect Mother's Day book, too!

My children love this book, and adults do not get bored either as the language and rhymes are quite interesting. Fun read, I would say age 2,5-3,5.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Story for Kids
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 10, 2013
If me as the adult appreciates a good kids story book then i know my kids will love it. My kids are 5 & 9. Beautifully illustrated with lots of detail. Its a rhyme based story & quite long (in comparison to say a Julia Donaldson book) but written in a clever humouros way. The story of a long suffering mum & how she copes with the fussy eating habits of all her children. An utterly charming read for both young & old.
