I recently had the opportunity to test out the TOPDON TC003 Thermal Imaging Camera, and I must say, it has exceeded all my expectations in every possible way. This device is an absolute game-changer, and I can't wait to share my detailed review with you.
Design and Build Quality (5/5):
First impressions matter, and the TC003 does not disappoint. Its sleek, robust design not only feels great in your hands but also gives off a sense of durability. The 5" touch screen is responsive, and the device itself is surprisingly lightweight. The IP55 rating ensures it can handle tough environments, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.

Horrible design
Its almost unusable with the power button located where it is. You are constantly accidentally touching it and turning it off. Afterwards you have to start back over every time, frustrating beyond belief. The camera button is in the same location but on the other side other the device so that's always getting pressed unintentionally as well. Like others have mentioned, it's basically a cellphone with a thermal camera included. What they don't mention is how cheap of an equivalent cellphone. It's super slow and lags(horrible CPU), the camera quality is worse then older front facing cameras, the screen resolution is absolutely pathetic, the speaker sucks and I couldn't even make it through a song. The operating system is basically locked so you can't even add your own apps. My $100 Motorola has the same battery capacity and blows it out of the water in every way. Nothing about it is intuitive whatsoever. Soo the only function really is the thermal camera(which is constantly getting interrupted by the accidental button presses anyway) and it instantly made me realize I just wasted a bunch of money. Maybe my expectations were too high but I was under the impression it would have some sort of 3d capabilities(like finding rodents or live wires in walls) but it's imaging is so hollow that even getting an accurate wall face temperature is iffy as the signal seems to reflect off of EVERYTHING. My $20 IR laser thermometer is more accurate in that regard. All n all I'm pretty disappointed and can't understand how such an important, simple feature such as button placement was overlooked. The rest of the problems were simply to cut cost, that I get.Edit: first pic is of a thin plastic reptile cage and you can see the heat signature of the heating mat control in front of the enclosure but nothing inside. The other 3 are of different places of walls with all different style(drywall, paneling, and one of tv) all just showing my reflection. I bought it mainly to determine leaks and breaches in insulation, rodents, where wires are ran etc and it's pretty useless. This is just an expensive toy at best and good for taking thermal images of pets(only visible ones though, not going to show you your cat hiding under the bed etc) and showing you different temperatures of things you can obtain much cheaper. Also this edit was done from the device and it was painfully slow and cumbersome. I'll try to get some REAL use out of it before returning, and maybe update then. As of now this is a hard pass.Edit 2Increased stars for quality customer service. Device is still hard to hold but am adapting. Also added a few more photos. One of my ceiling that shows the joists, one of a faulty heating pad, and one showing it's limitations by pixeling out on a wood burner.

TC003 is essentially an Android tablet with integrated Thermal Imaging Camera, and by combining these functions together, Topdon has made a tool that is more useful than standalone TICs. It also boots quicker than some TICs, which is a nice bonus considering it has more features.
The device feels very solid in the hand, with seams and bezels all being uniform and giving a feeling that it is a high quality product. It has a dust cover to protect the USB-C port. It has a dedicated shutter button to operate the TIC when the appropriate app is open. The tripod mounting hole is a nice feature if you want to hold the TC003 still to monitor temperature over time.
The ROM appears to be custom-developed for this device and it has some restrictions as a result - for example, there is no Google Play Store, but this is a tool so you should not really be trying to add lots of extra apps to it. The 32GB internal storage is plenty for storing many images. The ROM/launcher has some handy features like screenshot and screen recording buttons, and screen casting. The touchscreen is responsive and accurate.
If you connect the TC003 to Wi-Fi, you can receive ROM updates which resolve problems and enhance functionality. When I first connected my TC003, it received an update. It's nice to see that TOPDON is maintaining the software for the device.
Retrieving images is easy: you can connect it with USB, and the device shows up as an MTP device similar to a smartphone. You can also transfer images by Bluetooth, or you can upload them to a website using the Chrome web browser.
In addition to the TIC, TC003 also has a normal camera, but the photo quality is just average and has a wide angle. Using this as your primary camera is not the design intent; this is primarily a TIC, but it's nice that it has the normal camera as well for situations where it might be useful.
Overall, it feels like a very good quality device, the features are nice, and the thermal imaging seems to work well. I'm very happy with the TC003 and would definitely recommend people give it a try if you're looking for a TIC that isn't as expensive as the competition.
