Down Falls The Queen: A Splitting Worlds Novella (The Splitting Worlds Series) Kindle Edition
When the Tengu King is assassinated in his bed only five days before Tengu Princess Rei's coronation, a cryptic message from an Oracle of the gods is the last thing Rei needs.
With time ticking down to clear the unrest within her kingdom and take her place on the throne, her best-laid plans threaten to come crumbling down on top of her. The Oracle speaks only in riddles, but the Oracle's words must come even before her own people, or her own throne.
Complicating things further, her two best friends—twin Angel and Demon brothers Ayangelo and Natius—bring their centuries-old family feud to her doorstep.
Only Rei's role as The Hand of Justice for the gods can maintain the perilous balance of power to prevent an all-out war between the Angels, Demons, and Humans.
But can she maintain her impartial role of justice while still finding her father's assassin and ascending to the Tengu throne?
Or will her involvement in her friends' perilous war drag her crashing down with them?

There isn't a single moment of filler in the entire story. If you've read Splitting Dusk, this serves as a prequel to that, further explaining some of the conflict between Aya and Nate, and giving a better understanding of Rei's past. Her inner debates - first in an attempt to reassure herself of her path towards Ascension to Queen, then later, to try to rationalize the heartbreak unfolding around her - forged a true connection between her and the reader... and I won't lie, it'll likely make me revisit Splitting Dusk in order to see her in an entirely new light.
I'm loving these pieces of a larger story that we're being treated to with these connected novellas, and I'm eager to see what's next to unfold.
What I liked most was the unique addition and mixture of characters I don't think I've seen in other stories. This book left me wanting to learn more about Rei, the In Between, and the supernatural elements of this world.
