This was an easy install and it works great. I had our electrician add a 6-50 outlet to a 50 amp breaker and the rest was as simple as mounting the charger to the wall and plugging it in.
The ChargePoint app identified the unit immediately and the wifi connection has been flawless. The app works seamlessly with my BMW app so charging is a breeze.

PURCHASE
The salesman at the dealership told us the mini comes with a level 1 charger, so I elected to buy this ChargePoint level 2 charger to upgrade our charging capabilities and have it ready by the time we drove the car home. The salesman was wrong, the car comes with a level 2 charger and a 115v adapter plug so you can use regular house current until you upgrade to a 230v outlet. Result, 500 bucks blown unnecessarily on the ChargePoint and shame on me for not doing more research myself.
INSTALLATION
I installed the ChargePoint myself using the hardwired option and the existing 230v outlet I have in the garage. ChargePoint uses two apps for the installation. The ChargePoint Installation app and the ChargePoint user app. The instructions do not clearly explain this nor when its time to transition from the installation app to the user app. This caused problems when I scanned a QR code with the wrong app! I had to call customer service for assistance and although they were friendly and tried to help, the call station was obviously outsourced, and the agent did not have the requisite training or language skills to be effective. I was able to gather enough that it was time for me to delete the installation app and switch to the user app for the next step.
PERFORMANCE
I do like the ChargePoint design, appearance and user interface. It all works well and the WiFi connectivity and synched charging programs with my power company are nice.
SAVINGS
Look for money back programs from your power company and vehicle manufacturer and enroll. For example, Xcel energy gives us $50/year for charging off peak (Optimize Your Charge program) and BMW's ChargeForward program pays us for reducing carbon emissions by charging off peak. The problem I am having now is Xcel energy is controlling my charging schedule through ChargePoint and BMW is controlling my car's built-in charging system through the ChargeForward program, resulting in frequent conflicts. One is OFF when the other is ON, causing periods of no charging and we sometimes don't have a full battery when it's time to leave in the morning.
SUMMARY
The ChargePoint is a great EV charging system as stated by numerous professional and consumer product reviews. The installation guidance is not well orchestrated and cumbersome. It's an easy installation if you know basic house wiring but ChargePoint obfuscates it with the installation app which shouldn't be necessary. And I didn't need to buy it because the car came with a level 2 charger and I could have enrolled in the power company's and manufacturer's money back charging programs without it. And good luck synchronizing your various charging incentives together so you have a full charge when it's time to leave in the morning!
Update: I was able to synchronize Xcel energy’s “Optimize Your Charge (OYC)” and BMW’s ChargeForward program such that I get all the savings and have a full charge in the morning. Also, I could NOT have enrolled in the “Optimize Your Charge (OYC)” program with the charger that was included with the car. The program is only compatible with 2 specific chargers, (ChargePoint & Juice Box).
I did the installation myself. I chose hardwired vs installing a NEMA plug. I like that you can run the wires into the unit from the back (through the wall) or up through the bottom, which is what I did by running conduit in my garage. I read about fires occurring from people using cheap NEMA outlets that can't handle the load. That's another reason I decided on hard wired.
A great feature of this charger is how the wires are clamped down to the charging unit. Many of the problems I've read with self installing chargers (not done by an electrician) are the wires coming lose because they are not properly tightened with a torque screwdriver. Didn't have to worry about that because the wires are clamped down with a lever.
There is a great template for mounting the charger to a stud.
Took me less than 30 minutes to install (not including the time to run the wires). Great installation instructions and online videos too.
The app works very well. You cannot put in different electricity costs based on peak vs off peak rates. I only pay 1 price so was not an issue for me.

I saved a $170 CAD going this route!
The unit has been operating flawlessly, no issues and it was super easy to install, pair and use.
I'd recommend this unit.. it's well built and doesn't feel cheap... there's probably a reason these guys make the commercial units.

Note that the supply cable is relatively short, hence when mounting the 240V supply socket make sure that the Ground Pin is nearest of the pins to the charger, otherwise there will be problems.
The app makes this ridiculously easy to activate as it guides you through the process step by step. The programability, smart features like demand response charging, the available extensive geeky charging tracking data, and Energy Star rating are features that few other EVSEs even offer. I like that its default version is plug in and that you can opt for either NEMA 14-50 or 6-50. However, it is the design and build quality of the ChargePoint Home Flex that impressed me most.
ChargePoint takes great care in doing everything exceptionally well, from their instructional videos, to the packaging, to the list of included features, and the fit, finish, and the quality of the engineering and construction. As a professional who deals with electronic circuits, I appreciate the elegance and flow of how the charge cable connects to the unit. A seemingly simple thing that many people might not even notice, but it reveals how much attention to detail ChargePoint shows.
The Home Flex does everything I want a level 2 EVSE to do, and it does those things very well, and it is designed to be efficient and ultimately save money by obtaining electricity at the lowest rates possible. It is not cheap, but here in Canada as of now there are at least three or four other smart chargers which are all more expensive and arguably do not have as many features. When you consider its construction quality, its features, and its ability to receive software updates via WiFi, on balance I think it is a good value for the money. Originally I was hesitant because of the purchase price, but I'm glad I decided to buy the ChargePoint. I've been impressed with the ChargePoint public chargers I've used and I'm even more impressed with the Home Flex. I really have no complaints at all about this charger.
The scheduling feature works perfectly to only charge the vehicle when hydro rates are cheapest.
Very satisfied with this purchase.
