Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.
I've been interested in learning the kalimba for a long time, and when I found this one, I finally decided to take the plunge. For the price, it feels well-made – especially the wooden box. The accessories are quite useful; they include a sturdy case, tuning hammer, cleaning cloth, finger guard, and an information booklet that features a guide on maintenance, as well as how to play. The kalimba itself is quite light, too – less than 1lb, I'd wager – so the weight won't wear anyone out while playing. It sounds great, and fits in the hands easily.
So that's the positives. There aren't many negatives, especially if you're comfortable working with the tines a bit. On my kalimba, the bottom-most note (C) has a buzz, which can usually be fixed by pulling out the tine, straightening it some more, and fitting it back in. The highest 6-note tine is noticeably dead, as well; from what I understand, this is common in cheaper kalimbas, and can be improved – not fixed – by bending the tine a bit more to loosen it, and tuning it more precisely.
In summary: if you're interested in trying out the kalimba, but don't want to spend too much on a high-quality one, this is a cheap and easy way to get into the hobby! Just be prepared to upgrade if you decide you enjoy it enough.
