Can you fall in love in thirteen hours? It's her birthday but lonely workaholic Dana Watts is at the office late, drafting a proposal. The very last interruption she expects comes in the form of the most beautiful breasts she has ever seen. These belong to an incredibly hot woman, who is standing in front of her, stripping to music. Laurel Stanley performs strip-o-grams to pay her way through school. She has never encountered a more ungrateful recipient than Dana. The uptight project manager makes it clear that she is furious to be distracted from her work by the "gift" a colleague sent and equally appalled by Laurel's occupation. After Dana is rude and insulting, and insists on escorting Laurel from the building, the two women take an elevator ride that changes everything. Stuck with each other for thirteen long hours after the elevator breaks down, they discover how wrong first impressions can be and how right two strangers can feel together. Can everything change in less than a day? Dana and Laurel set out to discover if their passionate elevator encounter can mean more in this fast-paced, erotic story of lust, loneliness, fantasy, and desire.

When workaholic Dana Watt is working proposal in her office on her birthday she is given a gift of a lap dance by a co-worker . She sees the most magnificent breasts she has ever seen. However she is being distracted from her work by this sexy beautiful stripper. Dana becomes angry and walks the stripper out of her office and is going to escort her out of the building. However things don't go according to plan the elevator breaks down and Dana and the stripper Laurel are stuck in the elevator for 13 long hours. This starts a sexy and erotic exploration for the two women who have sex with each other but find themselves attracted to each other .
This is the first book written by Meghan O'Brien that I have read. It explores the developing of a relationship of a loner (Dana) and an extroverted stripper as they learn about each other not only sexually but emotionally and romantically. Megan leaves no stone unturned she is a new author for me and I totally enjoyed her writing. These two women can't keep their hands off of each other as they spend their next year together learning about each other.
I loved this book by Meghan and can't wait to read the next book she writes. Easy read finished it in 3 sittings
I know she has more books out and for someone so young she is very talented. Can't wait to read her next book

This is probably the best F/F erotica I've had the pleasure to read. The story is multi-faceted beyond the incredible hot scenes between Dana and Laurel. Their chemistry explodes right from the first page and what begins as an intense dislike for each other turns into an insatiable attraction and then blossoms and solidifies into an impenetrable love. What I love most about these two amazing characters was they are less as individuals than what they are together and they soon realize how much more to living there is standing side by side. Through honest and unabashed communication they find that the simple art of talking just about anything is so freeing, and that trust is something attainable and not just a myth. For once it was refreshing to read about a healthy relationship based on trust, devotion, communication, and love. Based on all that, it is what makes their erotic scenes so much more breathtaking and so much more meaningful than your run of the mill smut. I am a fan precisely because it is not run of the mill.

After having read it yesterday in one sitting - I can't seem to let most book rest, gotta read them through when I start! - I thought I'd give it a review since I enjoyed it. Mostly.

What I want potential readers to realize is:
Go into this book expecting a fun ride. A light read, perfect for those "I just want to read a happy story"-moments.
Because that is basically what this book delivers.
The premise is interesting, the awkwardness of being stuck in an elevator, with the person that you - in that moment - dislike more than anyone, is portrayed satisfactory.
There is even character development! A surprise for what, in the end, is a stream of scorching hot sex scenes. Seriously, I was afraid my kindle would light on fire. Most of the times I'm not a big fan of too much sex in my romance, but this time it was just really well done. It didn't feel like repeating the same thing over and over again. Using "fantasies" as a catalyst lead to unique descriptions and no getting bored on my part!

Still, if you go into this book expecting to see how a character struggles through life-changing moments or how, in detail, Dana becomes the person she is at the end of the book - well, you will be disappointed in my opinion.
I am just going to give on example that irked me a bit. Don't worry, it happens early on and doesn't seem to influence the story much (which actually is my complaint!). Still, it's a bit of a spoiler!
The 180° change in attitude that Dana shows was a bit too quick for me. From "I'm not a lesbian!" to "Daaayumn, gimme that!". Maybe this won't bother others, but if there's something in your life that made you deny any attraction to women that you have, it just seems a bit unrealistic that she's ready to jump someones bones right after admitting to herself how she really feels.

All in all, don't expect getting something that you won't and you will be greatly entertained!

Meghan O'Brien is at the top of my favorite Authors list! I've purchased 5 of her 6 books and have read 3 of them. "Thirteen Hours" was the first. I didn't expect much with the concept of being stuck in an elevator for 13 hours. Boy was I surprised!! Quite pleasantly I might add! Ms. O'Brien's writing style is smart, witty and tantalizing. Each one of her stories are unique but the same. Unique in the topic, but the same as far as quality, being engaging, detailed characterizations, detailed scenes & settings, all with the right amount of steamy sizzling sex.
I love how Meghan told the story hourly in the elevator and still left a lot of quality and depth for when they got out. I was afraid the story would abruptly end after they were rescued, not so. Bravo! Well done.
I really enjoyed the personality s of Dana and Laurel. I love how the uptight, rude & full of herself Dana got put in her place with a resounded thud by the intelligent, sexy and witty Laurel! That was Awesome! I was laughing out loud and crying in this book. I may be sappy, but I thought it was beautiful. : )
This is an Amazing book, and Meghan O'Brien is a talented literary gift to the world lesbian fiction! I recommend any of her books, but especially this one!

This was my first LGBT book I ever read back in 2012, and oh man, nothing compares to this book now. I am not sure if it is because I got spoiled with multiple steamy scenes compared to some sapphic romance book today or if I was just eager to read a lesbian romance back in the day. This book has a great plot, well-written and rounded characters, and great humor throughout.

Again this book is the right amount of steam with multiple scenes, and it made me read all the rest of her books! I highly recommend reading this book and hope it gets exposure on social media platforms like some other books are today!

There really aren't many more ways to describe this book other than erotica with a heavy dose of romance, but if you look close enough there's actually more to it than that. Just as there's more to sex than just pleasure, and more to relationships than what lives on the surface. There is indeed a lot of sex in this book, both talked about and done, but not once did I find it same-y or tiresome, or unnecessary. Less than half the book actually involves the thirteen hours of the title; the rest of the book then propels you into a heady journey that you will either enjoy unreservedly or feel flustered and embarrassed about. This isn't your usual romance novel; it's an exploration of what happens when incredible chemistry makes two people want to lose themselves in each other. It's a study of desire, lust and fantasy. An intimate look at how love can twist its way into those things, making this new - and surprising - relationship between these two women so compelling you just can't help but become enraptured as they give themselves to each other completely, on every level. I didn't feel like I was just reading erotica - even though nearly every page is oozing sexuality in some form or another - as the sensuality and discovery between the two leads built to something so much more than only sex. There was an undeniable sweetness to this book, to these two characters. I adored both of the main characters and thoroughly enjoyed the journey they embarked on after being thrust together in such an unconventional and unexpected way.

The dialog was convincing, the situations credible - even when they were completely far fetched - and the characters smart, attractive, and appealing. There was no point as I read this book that I became frustrated with either lead, or with peripheral characters. There were no annoying misunderstandings, no miscommunications that took them forever to work through, no irritating ex or jealous best friends. The book was an exploration of a new and very passionate relationship without drama and angst spoiling the enjoyment of it. The leads work through their misgivings and doubts in a sensible and logical way; figuring things out in their own minds, and then actually talking to each other. It was refreshing to read a book in this genre in which the characters actually act like grown ups. Grown ups not only with grown up desires, but with the ability to communicate in an open and accepting way. I loved that aspect of the book.

Be warned, the sex scenes (and there are many) are very full on, and some of them may not be to everybody's tastes (certainly there were a few things that I personally would not wish to try) but regardless of whether you find them completely arousing or not, they were certainly well written and never repetitive. I find that O'Brien has an extremely deft skill of enthusing desire and sensuality into all her sex scenes - and the build up to them - and in every book of hers I've read so far they never fail to add to the story rather than appear as if they're only there as an after thought or to appease a demanding audience. This book was an exploration of human desire, but reading about two passionate women also falling in love - as well as lust - was satisfying on more than just the one level and it came across perfectly. I felt emotionally attached to these two women quite quickly. The author had me completely convinced that everything that happened was both natural and fantastic. The relationship between the two women - who were so completely enraptured with each other - was both interesting and exciting to read and I could have continued to read about them (with or without the copious amounts of sex) for a long time after the end of the book.

I have to rank this book as one of my favourites in this genre as there is most definitely nothing wrong with a healthy interest and enjoyment of sex, and most definitely nothing wrong with finding a passionate love story so very rewarding.

3.0 out of 5 stars Dieses Buch ist ein verbaler Porno mit wenig Handlung
Reviewed in Germany on February 22, 2010

Handlung: null. Romantik: dürftig.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good story
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 6, 2017
I really loved the story and fell in love with the characters.
My only gripe was that I found it a bit to erotic in places so I found myself skipping these scenes in places. Don't let that put b you off though because it really was a great story! I will definitely be looking for more by this author because this book was well written and easy to get involved in.

3.0 out of 5 stars Rather Disappointing
Reviewed in Canada on October 24, 2011
As there are already several reviews for this book, I'll skip the synopsis and backstories and get right to it: I found this story lacking. Although very hot and mindful of human anatomy (particularly female), there was way too much sex and not enough story and character behind it. (And this is coming from a guy who bought this mainly for the sex reason.)

Although the two don't get together wham-bam, after they do, the sex is practically non-stop with a few short fluff chapters to break up the eroticism. And the fluff doesn't really add anything either; we only see the two protagonists, Dana and Laurel, when they're madly in love with each other. Even when they eventually do have a fight after their life-changing elevator hook-up, it's so short and easily resolved it's more a heated discussion than a flat-out argument.

This may sound overly critical, given that it says "Erotic Romance Novel' on the cover, but I was still expecting more. If this was a porno, it would be surprisingly deep, but as a more serious, though admittedly very steamy, romance novel it falls pretty short.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not For The Faint Hearted!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 22, 2014
Well this is some book. If you are looking for a nice girl meets girl, gentle romance with just a hint of sex then this book is so not for you. I have read many mainstream lesbian romances and the sex in this book puts even Radclyffe in the shade. It is not just the sheer amount of sex, but the many varied types of sex detailed. Trust me when I say vanilla it ain't.

I tell you this because in the same way I don't like a romance novel that has little if any sex detailed within, I know there are others who much prefer a gentler stop at the bedroom door and leave to the imagination kind of approach. I often wish books had a rating, just like films, so you know before you buy what you can expect. This book would definitely be triple X rated. I have never seen anything like it in what I would call mainstream lesbian fiction. Erotic yes, mainstream no.

Having said all that, the sex was right for the story. A sexually repressed woman who does nothing but work and who has had little if any physical contact of any description for far too long, meets a woman in the most unusual circumstances and it changes her life completely. The sex is the way that the author shows us barriers coming down and the change from being afraid to live and take risks because she was frightened of being hurt to becoming a happy and contented individual. if you want to know how, you will have to read the book.

Would I recommend, I think so, I have read reviews elsewhere and some complain that there is no story, just sex. In some ways the sex is the story because by accepting the sex, the main character finally accepts who she can be.

I had read a number of Meghan O'Brien's books, my favourite so far is Wild which was just brilliant. If you didn't like The Night Off, then I don't think you would like this book either. I hope I have done the book justice and given enough information to help you decide whether to buy the book or not.
