A Matter of Temptation (Unforgettable Love Book 1) Kindle Edition
Miss Wilhelmina “Mina” Crawford is desperate. Having been ruined in the eyes of society years ago for one foolish, starry-eyed mistake, she spends her days secreted away at her family’s crumbling estate, helping her brother manage the land but not able to truly live life the way she’s always dreamed. When her brother admits to just how dire their finances have gotten, she takes it upon herself to procure employment…but the only one who will even consider the scandalous idea of a female secretary is the brilliant, ruthless, and infuriating Earl of Creswick.
Simon Loughton, the Earl of Creswick, needs help if he wants to finally pass the reform bill he’s been championing for years and secure the vote for England’s most vulnerable constituents. Too bad help comes in the form of a woman with breathtaking nerve, fiery red hair, and a sense of humor to match.
Now temptation—disguised as a lovely, clever-mouthed devil—lives and works under Simon’s very roof. And Mina finally feels as though she’s truly living life to her wildest dreams. But even the most incendiary of kisses can’t incinerate Mina’s past…or the shocking secret that could ruin them both.

Wilhelmina Crawford, known as Mina, finds her family in desperate financial circumstances. The difficulties are compounded by brother Anthony's attempt to cheat at cards and are due to meet Simon the Earl of Creswick in a fencing duel. The problem is Mina is skilled at fencing, not Anthony. So Mina dresses appropriately and dashes off to meet Simon at dawn.
And so the story begins. It was a fresh and enjoyable start to a book set firmly in the 1840s. In a period of great political upheaval, the Industrial Revolution was gathering pace. I genuinely believe there would have been women like Mina in this period. Circumstances force them to take risks to survive. I love how Entangled Publishing produces historical novels that capture the time and events. Goodness knows balls and promenading, and carriage rides through Hyde Park are great fun, but it's fascinating to discover what events unfolded at the time.
Now onto the story, Simon lost his parents at a young age, and I think it's safe to say he's emotionally unavailable. He recognises the need to marry for the Earldom and advance his political career, so he accepts his grandmother's offer to identify and present his future wife to him. In the meantime, Simon greatly respected Mina's father, who passed away, leaving the family in financial trouble. He offers Mina a role as his secretary. A position unheard of being held by a woman. Before Mina accepts the role, some fun and determined negotiations occur. This was the section in the story where it stepped up a notch. Simon and Mina make a great couple with equal skills and faults.
I loved the author's extra details about the repeal of corn laws—the gathering momentum for women to be able to inherit and own property—also the fact of the first-ever chocolate bar made by Frys. If I see a Fry's chocolate bar, I always buy and scoff it down. I never knew it was a trailblazer in the world of chocolate treats. Those little details added how they were woven into the story.
I loved the romance between Mina and Simon. They truly were meant to achieve their HAE. After some tricky emotional growth and difficulties.
If you enjoy historical novels set in the early reign of Queen Victoria, this is a story well worth reading.

I love when authors find clever ways to develop relationships without the constraints of the ton. And the heroine winning over the hero by beating him in a duel so that he hires her as his personal secretary was such fun.
The heroine is the type of character you would want as a friend. Smart, sweet, cunning, humorous, a tad eccentric, brave, loyal, and adventurous. The hero is an alluring alpha male who is also brilliant. They are the best.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story. My one disappointment is how the heroine’s backstory is revealed and resolved.
**slight spoiler, though astute readers are not surprised by the heroine’s secret**
It is illogical that the man the heroine eloped with behaved as he did. Why marry a 17-year-old girl with a small dowry he likely will never see only to sleep with another woman on their wedding night. Other than to provide the heroine with a literary reason to flee her husband without consummating the union, the man’s motivations are completely implausible barring further information. I wish an explanation had been provided.

🌶️🌶️🌶️/5.
Absolutely loved everything about this book. It's easy to read which i appreciate very much since HR i somewhat of a new genre to me and some can be hard to read but not Stacy's. They are easy to follow and understand.
I didn't stop reading this for one second and i regret nothing. The politics and the banter were riveting to me. The premise of this was gold!
“I must be appraised of any harm to your person—even if it is a stubbed toe—at once.”
Simon Simon Simon... I think i'm in love and he's gonna go on the boyfriends list.
He was so stern but somewhat joyful when engaged in everything Mina, interesting mind and personality but most of all loyal. Loyal to himself and to his feelings. He is no pushover and he goes after what he wants no matter who dares to try and stop him. There is no such word as ''can't'' in his vocabulary!
I loved how persistent he was no matter what his grandmother and Mina said. He took every obstacle out of his way in order to be with the love of his life. I loved how he was so cynical but after knowing Mina he became enamored and also enlightened on what love meant and the most important thing to me was that he didn't shied away from these new feelings, he accepted them and went forward.
Mina is such a fun and adventurous character. I loved everything she represented but most of all I loved how she bested the Earl at every turn starting on chapter 1. She was just so captivating, intriguing and alluring!
I honestly don't think there's something i didn't like about this book.
I loved everything about these two and i can't wait for the next book by Stacy.
