Get a Jump Start on PlantingWhen you buy starter plants, you’re getting young live plants that are typically several weeks old, which can help you make up for lost time in your garden. |
Grow Strong, Vigorous PlantsGrowing tomatoes should be fun, not stressful. We care for our seedlings in a way that encourages the development of strong roots and vigorous growth. Your plants will be well on their way to maturity once received, thus speeding up the growing process. |
Harvest Your Tomatoes SoonerWhen you start with a Bonnie Plant, your plant is closer to maturity, which means you’ll be able to start harvesting and enjoying your homegrown tomatoes much faster than if you started with a seed. |

PlantPlant tomatoes after your region’s final frost date for a summer harvest. Plant in a warm, bright spot, as they need 6–8 hours of sunlight, and bury the bottom two-thirds of the plant, including the root ball. Check plant tags for complete instructions. |
GrowTo help support your tomatoes, give them a stake, trellis, or cage to climb as they grow. Add mulch (chipped mulch, straw, or shredded leaves) around your tomato plants to help the soil retain moisture and prevent weeds. |
HarvestTomatoes will start out green and turn their mature color as they ripen. Ready-to-pick fruit will feel firm and have a deep color. Store your picked tomatoes at room temperature indoors or in a shady place outside. |

Product Description
One of the most popular tomatoes grown in the U.S., Better Boy is also one of Bonnie’s all-time best sellers. It’s no wonder, either, as plants produce lots of large, smooth-skinned red fruits bursting with classic tomato flavor. Perfect for slicing! This plant performs well in many areas of the country. Vines will grow tall, so be sure to stake or cage plants for support.

Update: unfortunately, I was informed that none of the four beefsteak survived the transit time to Vermont. I don’t want a refund, but like a replacement so we can plant somewhat on schedule. Many thanks.
Update: As always, Bonnie Plants are wonderful to deal with. A replacement item is being sent. The rest of my original order, assorted peppers, tomatoes, herbs, basil (a basil is incredible) are all dark green and screaming to be planted in the next week! Thanks Bonnie!
All the root plugs were still moist when I got the plants. I will NEVER buy from Home Depot or Lowe’s again. I will just order them directly from Bonnie on Amazon now! What a great service and affordable price. Every single plant was healthy and green.
I’ll try to update this review in August with the harvest pics. Good luck this season, growers!
I went ahead and ordered 2 4pks of the Cherokee Purples. Half the plants came in looking horrible and will probably die, the other half looked a little better, but are still in rough shape. Very disappointed! Waiting for response to my ask for a replacement

Sitting comfortably under lights till it's time to go out.
So helpful and my plants are so healthy. I will definitely order from them again.

One thing I forgot to mention in the 2022 review is that when they go on sale, it's because the plants are getting too big for the shipping containers. Which means your plants will be a bit bent when you get them. They will straighten out and be just fine, but you can encourage them gently to straighten up. This will have ZERO effect on productivity. Even a broken branch won't slow them down much. A broken leader would delay fruiting but they will grow from a node and be just fine. (I had severe damage to my tomato plants in a storm a few years ago, all produced in the end so I do have experience with damaged plants.)
I did not opt to prune my Celebrity tomatoes last year, and they did sprawl on the ground at the end of the season, but less so than some of the other varieties I have tried. Despite a lack of pruning, the plants did not develop any serious issues at all. I just need to be more careful about the slugs which enjoy the environment under the leaf canopy.
2022 Review: I bought Bonnie Celebrity Tomato Plants after missing the closing weekend at the local greenhouse I planned on buying from. They arrived in good shape, bigger than I expected. They are beautiful plants setting lots of tomatoes. If buying from a local grower is not an option I would recommend these Bonnie tomato plants.
