I’m writing this review because Ultraloq said they would send me a free bridge if I wrote a review. Manufacturers should be careful about what they ask for.I bought the Ultraloq because it was the only Wifi lock that I could find that was not a deadbolt lock. For this application I wanted a door-knob keypad lock that could be controlled remotely. The ratings and reviews were quite good. The lock is very attractive and mechanically well made. Programming strictly from the keyboard is a little awkward but that is just until the device is paired with a bluetooth device.Three problems show up at this point:1) The lock is a bluetooth lock, not a Wifi lock. Ultraloq sells, for an additional $40 or so a Bluetooth Wifi bridge. So it is a little kludgy to begin with. (By writing this review they’ll send me a second, which I may sell on ebay.)2) The second problem was that I had continuous problems with the bluetooth, before I installed the bridge. To save power the bluetooth shuts off after 25 seconds, if there is no use. This meant that in the middle of a multipart operation, the bluetooth would disconnect and not want to reconnect quickly. It would often take while to get an initial bluetooth connection. I think this is because the lock takes a moment to enter bluetooth mode after being woken by the device running the application. By then the app has decided there was a timeout and things get out of sync.3) With the bridge, even though we have five bars on our Wifi everywhere in the house on other devices, including next to the Ultraloq, the bridge would read poor Wifi Signal strength. Unlike most Bluetooth devices, which have a range of 10 meters, the lock has a range of 3 meters, meaning that placing the bridge where we received good Wifi and good Bluetooth was impossible. The bridge is now placed six feet from the lock but reports that it has poor bluetooth and poor Wifi connections. Remote communications with the device can take five to seven minutes to establish and time outs are frequent. However, I have always been able to remotely program new users, though the process can take twenty minutes. (I am on the west coast, the lock is on the east coast.)We have given up on the fingerprint recognition. We thought it would be great time saver (though having fingerprint recognition did not enter into the buy decision). Instead, it rarely works and no lock user attempts to use the fingerprint facility any more.I have not tried the temporary users, which require the user to use the app, rather than a physical passcode. That you CAN NOT have a temporary user who uses a passcode was a great surprise and a disappointment. To be honest I felt like I was the victim of a bait and switch. Because I had such general bluetooth problems, I just add a permanent user and then remove the user when they no longer need access. Debugging bluetooth connection problems from across the country where it can take me five or more minutes to connect to the lock is much more than I want to take on.Battery is starting to be a concern. The device was installed nine days ago. Battery strength has gone from strong to medium. I am on the other side of the country, installing new batteries can be an issue. It is possible that it is just this one unit. There wasn’t time to have new unit sent out before I had to leave, so I did not bother with support. I was sent a survey where I reported some of these issues, but no one followed up.There you have it, a good-looking product, with great potential and the only one I could find that was not a deadlock.Epilog: It is two am East coast time. I just accessed the lock to grab screenshots and it worked flawlessly. Could the problems be server problems at the hosting site? (Keep in mind, that where a Zwire lock can run on a local server, Ultraloq, like Nest, requires the manufacturers server to operate.) I tried again at 3am, same problems: no response.

I purchased this lock for my companies office front door about a year ago and its been FANTASTIC!
Please forgive my grammar, I am not going to proof read this...

PROS:
✨It fairly inexpensive, accepts multiple fingerprints, codes and remote unlocks for each individual user.
✨The codes can be entered in a special combination to fool "on lookers". Ex. If you code is 1234 you can type in 543"1234"782 than Enter and the door will still unlock!
✨The keypad turns off to save battery and back on with a touch anywhere.
✨Once you get a GOOD fingerprint it works every time! I registered my finger 2 or 3 times and as long as it doesn't think its the same as an existing one (by changing how you scan it) it will accept it.
✨The unit and handle are nice to look at and soft to the touch, its easy to open the door once unlocked.
✨The UltraLoq App works GREAT! It allows you to update the names of the users you entered into the device directly. You can even add a user through the App now!!! This is easier than typing in the admin code and going through the prompts etc. The App is not perfect but it allows editing, syncing of names back to the device AND ONLINE BACKUP AND RESTORE!! WOO HOOO. I you ever get a new Ultraloq you can RESTORE the users!
✨If you are like me, the door is FAR away from employees so having the REMOTE unlock device connected is a god send for visitors.

CONS:
💩The batteries don't last that long. Since its a permanent fixture - why not add MORE battery capacity? They do last a couple of months though...
💩The fingerprints works "OK" and only allows 2 "presses" to initially scan it. Personally, I re-add users fingers a few times to get it to work flawlessly BUT once it works - IT WORKS!
💩I might be wrong about this but I believe the lock can only hold 100 codes and/or fingers so I'm nervous about adding multiple fingers per person and using up the "memory". I have 40 users and if every one has a finger and code that's 80 off the bat. It also doesn't tell you if you have 2 sets of fingers scanned for each person, just that there is a finger scanned so I dont know if that takes up 2 "slots" or just 1......
💩The cell phone "shake" to unlock feature is just garbage! The app cannot be in the background and even if its setup properly it can take 5 "shakes" to unlock even though its set to "1 Shake". By the time you get your phone out, open the app and start shaking you could have just entered a 4 digit code... Plus you look like an idiot shaking your phone!!....
💩Having wet or moist fingers can affect the scanning! Hand lotion is usually the biggest culprit BUT I have noticed the scanner doesn't really need cleaning too often... maybe the act of swiping the finger clears it of debris?

OVERALL:
I would say the lock is FANTASTIC for the price and may even work better than more expensive options. The Remote Unlock (with extra device) is awesome and the ability to backup and restore the user data online is PRICELESS! If this lock ever Dies OR I decide to add another UltraLoq to the back door, I can just "restore" the codes to the new one! I have literally 0 complaints from people other than their fingers don't work. I can fix the finger issue though by re-scanning it a few times from slightly different angles BUT most people prefer to just type the code anyway. I have all my users use their THUMBS since it feels more natural especially if you are tall. If you are VERY short you might want to use an index finger instead.

I am able to get MY finger to work 100% of the time and part of that is learning how to place it on the scanner the same way EVERY time. I actually feel for the top edge of the scanner than kind of "swipe" it down as the device beeps. If it doesn't work you just need to lift it off and place it down again. If you are working with only a handful of people who need access and dont need to worry about filling up the memory than JUST ADD THEIR FINGERS MULTIPLE TIMES. I dont know exactly how it works when you add multiple fingers to the same "user" but if you have trouble just create a NEW user and add the finger there. You could even add the users left AND right thumb to see which works best unlocking.

Hope this helps someone!! Woo Hoo!
:-) Brian

6 years ago I had to get a combination lock for an office where I volunteered that had a number of people and groups needing access. Back then options were limited. I bought a Schlage FE595 which allowed for a number of different lockset codes, but didn't keep track of what codes and when they were used. It worked for what we needed but when someone needed access and didn't have a code, people would "lend" them theirs, which defeated the whole system of assigning codes. But it met our most basic requirement of multiple people being able to access without having to pass keys around.

Fast forward to this past December when I saw this Ultraloq UL3 BT Bluetooth Enabled Fingerprint and Touchscreen Keyless Smart Lock on sale here on Amazon. It peaked my interest because it could be accessed by a phone app and it maintained a log of when codes were used. Adding a wifi bridge even allowed it to be unlocked via the Internet. I was so intrigued by all the features of this lockset that I bought 2 to try out at my home.

Installation was pretty straight forward for such a feature full lockset. The part inside the door was adjustable to fit the existing cutout, and the screw holes lined up perfectly to make it easy to screw the inside and outside pieces together. They include a screwdriver with both phillips and slot bits which is convenient. My only installation issue was that I forgot the outside of my front door had a lockset with a long fixed handle which this lockset is not able to cover. So in the Spring I'll have to finish the job of filling in the bottom hole and painting the door to hide the outline of the old handle. Too cold to deal with that now. I've had the two locks installed for over a month now and they both have worked without problem.

Setting up each lockset codes was pretty straightforward and can be done on the key pad, though it is easier to do it on the U-tec phone app. You can operate more than one lockset from the app and sync users from one already setup lockset to a new one. One thing I didn't think about was that we normally don't lock our inside garage door, but this lockset handles that by having three modes of use. Normal, Passage and Lockout. And you can change these modes using the phone app. You can also lock and unlock it using the phone app. In fact they have an optional feature in the app that when enabled you can knock on your smart phone screen and unlock the door. Wifi connection sometimes fails but works after a few repeated attempts.

I programmed each lock with codes which was easy. setting up fingerprint access took a while as I had to repeatedly go through the fingerprint setup before it finally accepted it. But it does work. The only issue I can see with this lockset is the difficulty of using the included keys. The key slot is hidden on the bottom of the keypad and has a cover. It takes a few tries to get the key into the slot but it worked and you can unlock the door with the key. Basically the only time I have used the keys was to test that they actually worked. Using the keypad is easy but you need the key in case the batteries die or you forget your code and the fingerprint access fails.

While these locksets work via Bluetooth with the phone app if you want to access them via the Internet you have to purchase an Ultraloq Bridge for each lock. I bought these on U-tec's website since they were having a holiday sale and they had them for 1/2 price. I had emailed U-tec service to question whether you could have more than one wifi bridge. They were very responsive and as it turned out you actually need one wifi bridge for each lockset. Since they are also accessed via bluetooth for setup they have to be far enough apart that they don't interfere with one another when setting up to pair the bridge with the specific lockset. Luckily for me the two doors I have the locks installed on are about 50 feet apart with a brick wall in between. If that isn''t the case U-tec suggests unplugging an existing bridge before trying to setup a new one. The biggest problem people may have with this is that the bridge has to be less than 10 feet from the lockset to work (so it has a good bluetooth connection to the lock it is paired with) so you need a power outlet near the door and it also has to have good wifi strength to connect to your router. Again I lucked out meeting all those requirements. I suppose you can get around that using an extension cord for power and a wifi extender if the wifi signal to your router is weak. I have a Netgear Night Hawk which has multiple band support. The Ultraloq Bridge requires 2.4GHz Wifi band and won't work with the 5.2GHz wifi.

I'm very happy I took the plunge and bought these locksets. They deliver on all the features I was looking for.

This issue was fixed and now the lock runs smoothly since 1 year. I changed my rating from 1 to 5
