TotalBoat TotalTread Non-Skid Deck Paint is the Easy, Economical Way to Get an Attractive, High-Traction, Low-Glare Surface that Actually Feels Good Underfoot.

This one-component, slip-resistant, marine-grade paint is easy to apply to fiberglass and wood decks, for maximum traction and reduced sun glare.

The safety of all passengers & crew is always a top priority because boat decks are awash in all kinds of things that make them slippery and unsafe—rain, dew, spray, liberal use of the washdown hose, & spilled drinks, for example. Decks also bear the brunt of heavy foot traffic & punishing sun. TotalBoat TotalTread Non-Skid Paint makes it easy to prevent daily wear & tear from ruining your deck—and slip & fall injuries from ruining your day. Its 1-component polyurethane formula is mixed with unique Propyltex wax texturing agents that form a better bond to the paint than other brands. Just stir thoroughly, then apply with a brush or roller. TotalTread's rubbery texture provides maximum traction, & isn't abrasive like the silica-based additives in most non-skid paints. It feels good on bare feet and won't scrape the skin off of kneeling knees. A little hard scrubbing with a stiff bristle brush cleans the surface—without particles becoming dislodged or dark specs showing through.

More coats equals more grip.

TotalTread is ideal for boat decks, docks, ramps, steps, gangways, cabin soles, cabin tops, anchor locker covers, and much more. It comes in colors that match our TotalBoat Wet Edge Topside Paint & its high-solids formula will cover completely in one coat. However, to get the best combination of grip and durability, we recommend applying two coats. For a more aggressive grip, apply a third coat.

Clean, prepare, & mask.

FIBERGLASS

Remove surface contaminants. Wipe with a clean rag and TotalBoat Dewaxer & Surface Prep. Abrade lightly with a Scotch-Brite pad. Wipe with TotalBoat Special Brushing Thinner 100. Mask areas adjacent to application site. Priming not needed.

WOOD

Mask areas next to application site. Sand smooth down to 220-grit sandpaper. Wipe clean with TotalBoat Special Brushing Thinner 100. Prime with TotalBoat Topside Primer. Sand lightly with 220-grit. Wipe with Special Brushing Thinner 100.

PREVIOUSLY PAINTED SURFACES

Remove all previous coatings in poor condition. Wipe clean with TotalBoat Special Brushing Thinner 100. Mask areas next to application site. Apply TotalBoat Topside Primer. Sand lightly with 220-grit. Wipe clean with Special Brushing Thinner 100.

METALS

Prime metals with TotalBoat 2-Part Epoxy Primer, TotalBoat TotalProtect, or TotalBoat Aluminum Boat Barrier Coat, depending on metal & application. Sand cured primer with 220-grit. Wipe with TotalBoat Dewaxer & Surface Prep.

Stir well, apply first coat.

MIXING

The non-skid particles in TotalTread have a low density so they remain suspended in the paint, without floating to the top, or sinking to the bottom, like other non-skid paints. Mixing is easy and quick, just use the supplied mixing sticks and stir thoroughly. During application, you don’t need to keep stirring in order to keep the particles suspended in the paint.

APPLICATION

  1. Apply TotalTread only when dew, rain, and temperature conditions will not affect proper application or drying.
  2. TotalTread can be thinned 5-10% with TotalBoat Special Brushing Thinner 100, if needed.

TIP: Thin, even coats will yield the best results.

TINTING TOTALTREAD

To get a desired color, without ruining its high-traction finish properties, TotalBoat TotalTread can be tinted, up to 10% by volume, with TotalBoat Wet Edge Topside Paint.

TIP: It's very important not to add too much tint, or you'll ruin the non-skid properties of TotalTread.

Sand lightly, apply final coat.

  • After the first coat dries (8 hrs. @ 90°F; 12 hrs. @ 70°F;16 hrs. @ 50°F), sand the surface lightly with 220-grit sandpaper. TIP: When sanding between coats, some of the grit will get sanded down, but do not sand completely smooth.
  • Wipe the surface clean with TotalBoat Special Brushing Thinner 100, before applying the final coat.

It's an innovative 1-part polyurethane non slip boat deck paint that features unique wax spheres instead of silica to provide a high-traction surface with a rubberized-texture finish that's less abrasive and more comfortable underfoot. This slip resistant paint sticks better and lasts longer because scrubbing won't wear away the finish. Use TotalTread for safe, secure footing on boat decks, floors, hatches, cabins, stairs, steps, sundecks, docks, gunwales, ramps, cockpit, swim platforms, stairways, and anywhere secure, comfortable footing is desired. It's an ideal replacement for a pontoon boat carpet, or for use as an anti-skid aluminum boat paint for jon boats and fishing boat flooring. It can also be applied over nonskid patterns. TotalTread is ideal for high-traffic areas, with an anti glare, low-sheen finish that's easier on the eyes. This durable boat floor coating is great for home use, too, and can even be applied to porches, concrete patios, stair treads, truck running boards, and more. This 1 part non skid deck paint is easy to apply with a brush or roller. Add a second coat for even more traction. I used TotalTread on my Cape Dory 25D to bring the flat surfaces back to life. Super easy to use and great surface after 1 coat.Day 1: TapedDay 2:- sanded with 120 pads, lightly, and then cleaned with an acetone rag. (1.5 hours total with my wife helping)- painted with Total Boat top surface primer (or whatever it’s called)- dried enough to sand in about 90 minutes (85* and cloudy outside)- lightly sanded with 220 (30 min.) and dusted all the powder away- Rolled on 1 coat of tan Total Tread with foam rollerDay 3: today - went to check and everything is dried and set. Could have went a little bit heavier with the 1st coat, but will not likely add a second.Will be ordering again in white to hit the remaining non skid surfaces.

The top edge of our pool, steps, entryway had cracks so when doing a restoration with a Bondo product and then putting the Total Tread Kingston gray, we love the texture and sheen, but the color needed a little more depth so after calling the manufacturer , they recommended Wet Edge product we intermixed Kingston gray with the black until we got the color we we’re looking for. Went on smoothly, holding up so far. Used it on an aging deck. Cleaning and priming the deck took effort, painting it was easy. A couple of thin coats deck looks great. Paint color consistent, can't tell where I needed to touch up. The silica is easy on bare feet, not at all slick after rain. The grey color I ordered was much lighter than I expected, glad now. A darker color would probably be hot in southern summer sun. Good value from Amazon for 3 gallons.
Looked to buy paint locally, it was $60 a gallon more. Issue I had was that shipping boxes arrived in perfect condition, the cans inside were severely dented, one slightly leaking. It was necessary to transfer paint to cans I picked up at home improvement store. No returns. Mineral spirits just fine for clean up.

Product came packed very securely in a heavy-walled cardboard box. Even so, the delivery people still managed to drop it and dent the bottom of the gallon can. No fault of the seller, but clearly the heavy handed delivery company. Thanks for the gloves, stir sticks and pouring/mixing cups! The paint itself was very EZ to work with and I got a great finish. I did one coat and noticed some lite coverage in a few areas, so I feel strongly that 2 coats are needed. It was pretty sunny out so the mis-coverage was my fault. Even so, the finish was very very nice. I used a 1/8" nap roller and did not need to tip it with a brush. I used blue painters tape to mask my areas and then pulled it up without issue in about 30 minutes time. I HIGHLY recommend using the gloves because this stuff is not easy to remove from your hands without full strength mineral spirits. I waited a few days to let the paint cure (not sure that was needed but I did my best to stay off the new finish and not wash or scrub it for a few days). When I washed my boat the following week, I totally noticed a renewed sense of safety thanks to the new nonskid paint! And having my nonskid as a new color, people can totally see where to step and NOT to step when running around the boat. The finish is easy on my feet too. All in all it was a great project that made my old girl look new and sexy again! My tip for others with an old, chalky, no-longer-shiny fiberglass boat is to wetsand the glossy (slippery) areas to bring back the shine (really works!) and then mask off the non-skid areas and paint that area with this TotalTread product. Again, this project made my old boat a new boat!
I purchased the sand beige (check out the pix). I ordered a gallon: one coat on a Catalina 30 sailboat used up about a quart. So then two coats would require half gallon. Everyone's mileage will vary but that's my math, FYI.

Used this to paint the floor of our new deck. The previous deck had a walnut stain. It would get too hot for bare feet and I would have to carry my dogs across it to go to the back yard. I wouldn't even give it 1 star. The product stays soft (not tacky), soft. It has been weeks sense I applied it. I've had the right temps and humidity and still soft. I've tried baking it in the warm sun, still soft. It is easy to use and looks good as long as you don't want to use it or walk on it. I laid on the deck to get something under it and my keys in my pocket put a gouge in the surface. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it. I don't recommend this junk at all.
